External Load Evaluation in Elite Futsal: Influence of Match Results and Game Location with IMU Technology

    No full text
Abstract The purpose of this study was to assess the external load demands in futsal, considering both home and away matches and their outcomes, in order to plan microcycles throughout the season based on the external load of each match. The external load of 10 players from a First Division team in the Spanish Futsal League was recorded throughout 15 official matches in the first half of the league championship. The players’ external load was monitored using OLIVER devices. To analyse the influence of the match outcome and location on the external load, a univariate general linear model (GLM) analysis was conducted with Bonferroni post hoc. There are no differences between the variables neither comparing results nor location factors, except for accelerations of 2 to 3 m/s2 (m) per minute and the number of accelerations of 2 to 3 m/s2 per minute, reporting higher value winnings at home than away (p < 0.05). The location and results are not factors that influence on external load in futsal matches, except the number and distance performed in accelerations and distance covered at a low to medium speed. These findings are important for planning microcycles and providing the appropriate dosage to each player to achieve optimal performance in matches. This work was supported by the research project “Optimización del proceso de dirección del entrenamiento en deportes de cooperación-oposición (Code: Acta CES-PROMETE0-007-2013)”

Work’s justification or background: Arthrosis is a degenerative and progressive disease that involves joints and that affects more than 300 million people around the world. When it involves the trapeziometacarpal joint, we talk about rhizarthrosis, and it affects to 22% of the population over 50 years. Despite the pain, the disability and the socioeconomic burden that it causes, this pathology doesn’t have a cure and it is usually treated with pharmacological or surgical treatments, with the adverse effects that they imply. There is evidence that a conservative treatment based on education and strength, mobility and stability exercises is effective to decrease the impact of this disease. In addition, in the last years evidence of proprioception training having positive results has been found. Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness of physiotherapy approaches for the treatment of basal thumb arthrosis regarding decreasing pain as well as to check the effectiveness regarding an improvement on functional capacity and increasing grip and pinch strength. Methods: Randomized controlled trials were searched with a maximum age of five years in the following databases: PUBMED, WOS and PEDro. The studies had to be formed by patients over 50 years and a diagnosis of basal thumb arthrosis and at least one of the groups had to receive an intervention based on a physiotherapy approach. They had to include information about pain, function or pinch or grip strength. PEDro scale was used to assess the methodological quality of the studies included in the review. Results: 87 articles were found and four of them were finally included in the review. All of them evaluated pain and function but only two of them evaluated the secondary outcomes related to pinch and grip strength. All studies found improvements in their outcomes for both the control and the experimental group, although in some cases these improvements didn’t remain stable in the control group after the follow-up period. Conclusion: Physiotherapy approaches have demonstrated decreasing pain, improving functionality and increasing grip and pinch strength in patients with basal thumb arthrosis.

Managing schizophrenia with clozapine poses a significant challenge due to prevalent therapeutic failures. The increasing interest in personalized medicine underscores the importance of integrating pharmacogenetic information for effective pharmacotherapeutic monitoring in patients. The objective of this study was to explore the correlation between DRD2, HTR2A, SLC6A4, CYP1A2, and ABCB1 polymorphisms and clozapine response in 100 patients with Treatment-Resistant Schizophrenia. Different scales such as the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS), the Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale (SWEMWBS), the Global Assessment of Functioning Scale (GAF), the Brief Negative Symptom Scale (BNSS), and pharmacokinetic parameters were used to analyse the efficacy of the treatment. Patients who exclusively responded to clozapine compared to the patients with augmentation strategies exhibited distinctive features, such as lower doses, plasma levels, and presented less-pronounced symptomatology. Genetic associations were explored, highlighting SLC6A4, HTR2A, and the *1F/*1F polymorphism for the CYP1A2 gene

Introduction: Inguinal pain syndrome (IPS) is a condition characterized by pain in the inguinal region, near the pubic tubercle. This pain may involve various structures such as muscles, tendons, ligaments, and/or nerves in the inguinal area. It is particularly common in athletes participating in activities involving accelerations, changes of direction, and sudden shots. Conservative treatment for IPS, including muscle strengthening, stretching, and mobility, is commonly used as the first therapeutic option. The aim of this study is to analyze the evidence of its effectiveness in managing IPS. Methods: A literature review of randomized clinical trials on IPS and its conservative treatment was conducted using the PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane, and PEDro databases. One researcher independently assessed methodological quality using the PEDro scale in its Spanish version, and the opinion of a second evaluator was sought in case of doubts. Results: Out of the 137 studies examined, six articles were selected covering the period from 2017 to 2023 and including a total of 255 patients. Regarding age, the range spans from 15 to 40 years across all studies. Each of the articles focused on conservative treatment of IPS. All clinical trials presented conservative therapy as a tool to reduce pain and recover hip functionality. In terms of methodological quality, 4 studies are of "high" quality and 2 are of "moderate" quality. Conclusions: In conclusion, so far no new evidence of the effectiveness of conservative treatment for IPS has been found. It would be important to determine which techniques, such as muscle strengthening or manual therapy, are truly effective, as the efficacy of stretching remains unclear in IPS. For the future, clinical trials of higher methodological quality are needed. Given the complexity of the pathology, establishing a standard for both diagnosis and treatment would be essential

Enhancing Commercial Antibiotics with Trans-Cinnamaldehyde in Gram-Positive and Gram-Negative Bacteria: An In Vitro Approach

    Get PDF
One strategy to mitigate the emergence of bacterial resistance involves reducing antibiotic doses by combining them with natural products, such as trans-cinnamaldehyde (CIN). The objective of this research was to identify in vitro combinations (CIN + commercial antibiotic (ABX)) that decrease the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of seven antibiotics against 14 different Grampositive and Gram-negative pathogenic bacteria, most of them classified as ESKAPE. MIC values were measured for all compounds using the broth microdilution method. The effect of the combinations on these microorganisms was analyzed through the checkboard assay to determine the type of activity (synergy, antagonism, or addition). This analysis was complemented with a kinetic study of the synergistic combinations. Fifteen synergistic combinations were characterized for nine of the tested bacteria. CIN demonstrated effectiveness in reducing the MIC of chloramphenicol, streptomycin, amoxicillin, and erythromycin (94–98%) when tested on Serratia marcescens, Staphylococcus aureus, Pasteurella aerogenes, and Salmonella enterica, respectively. The kinetic study revealed that when the substances were tested alone at the MIC concentration observed in the synergistic combination, bacterial growth was not inhibited. However, when CIN and the ABX, for which synergy was observed, were tested simultaneously in combination at these same concentrations, the bacterial growth inhibition was complete. This demonstrates the highly potent in vitro synergistic activity of CIN when combined with commercial ABXs. This finding could be particularly beneficial in livestock farming, as this sector witnesses the highest quantities of antimicrobial usage, contributing significantly to antimicrobial resistance issues. Further research focused on this natural compound is thus warranted for this reason. The authors thank the financial support of the Gobierno de Aragón: Departamento de Ciencia, Universidad y Sociedad del Conocimiento (Group ECOBIOMED T67_23R), Cátedra NOVALTIA, and Universidad San Jorge. J Mater Chem B. 2025 Feb 5;13(6):2211. doi: 10.1039/d5tb90016f.The limited replicative potential of primary hepatocytes (Hep) is a major hurdle for obtaining sufficient quantity and quality hepatocytes during cell therapy in patients with liver failure. Intrahepatic cholangiocyte organoids (ICOs) derived from intrahepatic bile ducts differentiate into both hepatocytes and cholangiocytes in vitro. Here, we studied in vivo effects of transplanting ICOs and Hep in chronic liver injury mice models. Well characterized primary mouse ICOs and Hep were mixed in decellularized liver (DCL) matrix hydrogels and injected into the subcapsular left lateral liver lobe of CCl4-induced liver injury models whereas mice given DCL alone were in the sham group. Two weeks post-transplantation, transplanted liver lobes were collected and studied by histology and RNA sequencing. Transplanted animals did not exhibit any tumors, mortality or morbidity. Mice livers transplanted with ICOs had increased cellular proliferation and vascularization as compared to Hep transplanted mice or sham. Collagen deposition in the liver was significantly reduced and serum albumin levels were significantly increased in transplanted groups compared to the sham group. Expression of genes associated with hepatocyte differentiation was highest in Hep transplanted livers among the three groups, but they were also upregulated in ICO transplanted livers compared to sham. Our study demonstrates that ICOs encapsulated in DCL hydrogels when transplanted in chronically injured mice livers engraft well and show hepatocyte differentiation and reduction of fibrosis, indicating that hydrogel transplanted cholangiocyte organoids may serve as an efficient cell source and therapy for renewal of hepatocytes, restoration of hepatocyte functions and resolution of liver injury
