Beneficios de la rehabilitación previa a la cirugía en pacientes con lesión de ligamento cruzado anterior: Umbrella review.

    No full text
Introduction: Anterior cruciate ligament injury is one of the most common injuries in sport. The treatment par excellence in ACL rupture is surgery, especially in patients with the objective of returning to sport. Prehabilitation is a treatment phase prior to surgery and, although it is always present, there is a lack of information about its benefits and how to perform it. Objective: To assess the medium/long-term benefits of a rehabilitation programme prior to surgery in athletes with a surgical injury (rupture) of the anterior cruciate ligament. Methodology: a search was carried out in the PubMed, WOS and EBSCOhost databases over the last 15 years. A number of reviews were discarded as duplicates (n=11) and others were discarded on reading the title and abstract (n=19). Results: After finally analysing 8 reviews in full, variables such as pain, function, strength or quality of life were found. Most of the studies show positive results in relation to prehabilitation, but more emphasis should be placed on methodological quality, and not all of these results are significant. Conclusion: Pre-rehabilitation may benefit patients with ACL injury by improving pain, strength and function. The relationship between knee strength and function is positive, especially when strengthening the quadriceps. Although there is no consensus on the protocol, neuromuscular exercise and proprioception are generally worked on for 4-6 weeks prior to surgery. It is suggested that different sessions be investigated and compared to optimise postoperative outcomes

An integrated in vitro approach on the enzymatic and antioxidant mechanisms of four commercially available essential oils (Copaifera officinalis, Gaultheria fragrantissima, Helichrysum italicum, and Syzygium aromaticum) traditionally used topically for their anti-inflammatory effects

Introduction: Despite the increasing number of essential oils being reported on their potential therapeutic effects, some remain relatively unknown on their biological properties. That is the case of the essential oils obtained from copaiba (Copaifera officinalis L.), wintergreen (Gaultheria fragrantissima Wall.), everlasting (Helichrysum italicum (Roth) G.Don) and clove (Syzygium aromaticum (L.) Merr. & L.M.Perry), commonly labelled as being useful on the amelioration of conditions with an inflammatory background. Methods: To further broaden the current knowledge on the four essential oils, commercially available samples were approached on their effects upon a series of mediators that are involved on the inflammatory and oxidative response, both through in vitro cell-free and cell-based assays (5-lipoxygenase activity, lipid peroxidation, free radical and nitric oxide radical scavenging properties or tyrosinase inhibition). Results: The four oils proved to be active at some of the concentrations tested in most of the performed assays. Significant differences were found between the essential oils, S. aromaticum proving to tbe the most active, followed by G. fragrantissima against 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX) and linoleic acid peroxidation, proving their potential use as antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents. In fact, the IC50 value of S. aromaticum in the 5-LOX assay was 62.30 μg mL−1. Besides S. aromaticum efficiently scavenged superoxide radicals generated by xanthine/xanthine oxidase, displaying an IC50 value of 135.26 μg mL−1. The essential oil obtained from H. italicum exhibited a significant decrease in the nitric oxide levels on BV-2 cells, showing its potential as a cytoprotective agent against toxic damage. Copaiba oil ranked first as the most potent tyrosinase inhibitor, exhibiting an IC50 98.22 μg mL−1. Conclusion: More studies are needed to describe the essential oils properties, but these results confirm the potential of these essential oils as anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agents

Introduction: The promotion of physical activity in youth is essential to encourage a healthy lifestyle and prevent diseases related to inactivity. Objectives: to analyze the levels of physical activity performed by secondary school students in a charter school and to observe whether there are differences according to school year and gender. Methods: We used the modified version of the Assessment of Physical Activity Level Questionnaire (APALQ). The sample consisted of 229 participants (110 boys and 119 girls) aged between 12 and 18 years, from 1st ESO to 1st Bachillerato. Results: The results indicate a higher level of physical activity than has been found in other studies, especially for girls. Differences according to gender are statistically significant (total mean of 15.8 for boys and 13.4 for girls) while differences according to school year indicate a decrease in activity according to age, but are only statistically significant between 1st ESO-4th ESO and between 1st ESO and 1st Bachillerato. Conclusions: Higher physical activity figures have been obtained than those reported in other works on adolescents, especially for girls, which can be explained by the importance given to physical activity and sport

Implicit Learning and Football Performance under Psychological Pressure: A Narrative Review

    No full text
Objective: This review aims to explore the potential of implicit learning to enhance football performance under psychological pressure. The focus is on examining how implicit learning might mitigate the negative effects of pressure and improve the consistency and effectiveness of football skills during highstakes situations. Materials and Methods: A systematic search strategy was employed to gather relevant research from databases such as SPORTDiscus, PsycINFO, PubMed, Google Scholar, and Web of Science. Keywords included "implicit learning," "motor skills," football," "pressure performance," and "choking under pressure." The review considered peer-reviewed articles published in English, focusing on studies that investigated the relationship between implicit learning and football performance under pressure. Results: Implicit learning, characterized by the unconscious acquisition of skills through repeated practice, shows promise in enhancing football performance under pressure by promoting automaticity and reducing cognitive load. Studies have demonstrated that implicit learning can lead to more automatic and smoother motor skills, potentially making them less susceptible to disruption by pressure. Evidence from research on penalty kicks and other football-related tasks supports the effectiveness of implicit learning in high-pressure situations. Conclusion: The review highlights the potential of implicit learning to buffer the effects of psychological pressure in football, promoting resilience and adaptability in high-stakes scenarios. Further research is needed to optimize training methods for implicit learning and explore its application across different football skills and pressure conditions. Integrating implicit learning strategies into football training programs could equip athletes with the mental tools to perform at their peak under pressure

Introduction Post-acute COVID-19 patients who were discharged from hospitals during the epidemic faced significant challenges, not only physical sequelae, but also psychological distress, anxiety, and depression. It is already known that continued exercise improves psychosocial components, but few studies have explored the impact of multimodal rehabilitation programs, including therapeutic education, in this type of patient. There are no studies that explore the application of these programs through asynchronous telerehabilitation, which would open up new therapeutic windows. Methods This pilot single-blinded randomized controlled trial included 35 post-discharge COVID-19 patients allocated to two intervention arms: an asynchronous telerehabilitation group (ATG) and a booklet-based rehabilitation group (BRG). The aim was to analyze the preliminary changes in depression, anxiety, stress, and social support comparing both groups. Results The ATG exhibited statistically significant reductions in depression (p = 0.048) and stress (p = 0.033) compared to the BRG after intervention. While both groups showed improvements in psychosocial variables, the ATG demonstrated consistent lower depression levels at 3- and 6-month follow-ups (p = 0.010, p = 0.036 respectively) and notably higher social support at 3- and 6-month follow-ups (p = 0.038, p = 0.028 respectively). Discussion This pilot study suggests that a multimodal rehabilitation program using asynchronous telerehabilitation provides substantial benefits in terms of alleviating psychological distress and improving social support in discharged COVID-19 patients. These data will enable for larger studies to confirm these results

Co-evolving scenarios and simulated players to locate bugs that arise from the interaction of software models of video games

Context: Game Software Engineering (GSE) is a field that focuses on developing and maintaining the software part of video games. A key component of video game development is the utilization of game engines, with many engines using software models to capture various aspects of the game. Objective: A challenge that GSE faces is the localization of bugs, mainly when working with large and intricated software models. Additionally, the interaction between software models (i.e. bosses, enemies, or environmental elements) during gameplay is often a significant source of bugs. In response to this challenge, we propose a co-evolution approach for bug localization in the software models of video games, called CoEBA. Methods: The CoEBA approach leverages Search-Based Software Engineering (SBSE) techniques to locate bugs in software models while considering their interactions. We conducted an evaluation in which we applied our approach to a commercial video game, Kromaia. We compared our approach with a state-of-the-art baseline approach that relied on the bug localization approach used by Kromaia’s developers and a random search used as a sanity check. Results: Our co-evolution approach outperforms the baseline approach in precision, recall, and F-measure. In addition, to provide evidence of the significance of our results, we conducted a statistical analysis. that shows significant differences in precision and recall values. Conclusion: The proposed approach, CoEBA, which considers the interaction between software models, can identify and locate bugs that other bug localization approaches may have overlooked

Procesos inquisitoriales y biografías sociales de las judeoconversas de Aragón a fines de la Edad Media y la Edad Moderna

    Get PDF
This research paper critically analyses the historical relevance and potential of inquisitorial trials to reconstruct social biographies of Judeo-Converts in the kingdom of Aragon during the reign of Ferdinand II (1484-1515). The study proposes several methodologies to achieve this goal, including microhistory and social biography, gender, intersectionality, and sisterhood, as well as hypertext and constructivism. After a historiographical review of the limitations, particularly those relating to representation, mediation, legality and textual fidelity, the potential of this type of documentation is discussed. Therefore, the adherence to traditional practices, ceremonies, and rituals; the sociological beliefs, and anthropological identities of diverse generations; the inclusion of women's perspectives in confessions and interrogations, as well as the reconstruction of their connections and relationships through witness testimonies, and the revelation of life stories within the context of the history of mentalities. All of these arguments offer a complex insight into the microcosm of women who were persecuted by the Holy Office

    Get PDF
Medical Interpreting: Training the Professionals presents the results of the project Research & Action and Training in Medical Interpreting (ReACTMe) funded by the European Commission, which analysed the interpreting services offered in healthcare settings in Spain, Italy and Romania. This edited collection provides the reader not only with an update on the current situation regarding medical interpreting from different perspectives (decision makers, trainers, professional interpreters, healthcare providers and patients) but also with training resources and a proposal for an academic programme to teach medical interpreters. It is therefore ideal reading for medical interpreting trainers, researchers and practitioners. The book is also of interest to healthcare professionals as it includes a decalogue on how to work with interpreters in five languages
