The role of physical exercise in cancer therapy-related CV toxicity

Cyclical Inversion of limit and centre. The formation process of the thirteenth and fourteenth regions of Constantinople, Istanbul
The paper reconstructs the topography of Constantinople’s thirteenth and fourteenth regions (regio XIII, XIV) applying the urban morphology analysis methods (Caniggia and Maffei, 1979) and the attractors’ theory (Camiz, 2018) to the fragmentary documental sources and scarce archaeological data. The pontem sublicium sive ligneum’s location was determined as part of a street network, in analogy with the pons sublicius in Rome, according to the formation process of the territorial organism. This was the starting point for the reconstruction of the topographic mosaic. By redefining the path of the Constantinian walls upon quantitative sources it was possible to localise the monumental buildings of the XIV region, as listed in the Notitia Urbis Constantinopolitanae, with reference to the morphology of the territory described by Dionysius of Byzantium and the Patria Konstantinopoleos. The form of the territory is a permanent element within urban contexts of continuous changes, demolitions and reconstructions. The analysis of the urban tissues, the road network’s diachronic attraction and the reconstruction of the territorial organism provided the general methodological framework for the placement of the topographical urban fragments mentioned by historical sources upon a GIS

In un contesto caratterizzato da una sempre crescente riflessione sul potenziale impatto dell’intelligenza artificiale nell’accertamento del reato, risulta opportuno soffermarsi sulle possibili distorsioni cognitive che possono compromettere l’affidabilità dell’esplorazione. Considerato che l’output generato da un algoritmo dipende dai dati forniti da colui che ne cura l’addestramento, al fine di promuovere un’interazione virtuosa tra la macchina e l’operatore, appare essenziale acquisire adeguata consapevolezza circa i difetti cognitivi che influenzano il giudizio umano e che, se non adeguatamente sorvegliati, potrebbero riflettersi negativamente anche sull’attività dell’intelligenza artificiale impiegata a supporto delle decisioni
Archives and Health: A non-pharmacological intervention protocol based on Reminiscence Therapy (RT) for people with dementia
Abstract
Introduction
The global rise in dementia prevalence necessitates innovative non-pharmacological interventions to enhance cognitive function and the quality of life of affected individuals. This pilot study evaluates the "Archives and Health" program, a creative arts-based initiative that uses archival materials to facilitate reminiscence therapy for individuals with dementia.
Methods
This mixed-methods study involved a total of 50 participants (aged 65-94), divided into three different activities, with varying levels of cognitive impairment, recruited from different care settings. The program featured three interventions: "Memory Box," "My Memory Box," and the "Pre-Texts Protocol," incorporating music to enhance personal engagement. Quantitative emotional well-being was assessed using the RADAR toolkit, while qualitative insights were derived from focus groups, interviews, and ethnographic observations
Results
The "My Memory Box" intervention led to a significant decrease in negative affect (Mean pre = 8.73, Mean post = 7.00, p = 0.007) without altering positive affect. Conversely, the "Pre-Texts Protocol" exhibited consistent increases in positive affect across sessions (p-values ranging from 0.0001 to 0.0023). Qualitative analyses indicated that the program effectively activated autobiographical memories, improved social interactions, and fostered emotional resonance through multisensory engagement, particularly via music. Participants expressed enhanced social connectivity and personal relevance during activities.
The results should be considered preliminary also in light of the mixed qualitative design evaluation, specifically chosen and studied by the researchers as a methodological reflection on the development of mixed qualitative methodologies.
Discussion
The "Archives and Health" program demonstrated potential in improving emotional and social well-being among individuals with dementia. Its ability to evoke positive emotional responses and decrease negative states indicates the utility of archival materials and creative engagement in therapeutic contexts. Future studies with larger samples are necessary to confirm these findings and explore their clinical implications more robustly
Three-Dimensional Culture System: A New Frontier in Cancer Research, Drug Discovery, and Stem Cell-Based Therapy
Two-dimensional culture systems have been used for a long time in the research field but their disadvantages make it difficult to reproduce the in vivo environment. Three-dimensional culture systems overcome these limitations, simulating the physiological context of an organism, from the molecular level to the cellular, tissue, and organ complexity levels. This review focuses on 3D cellular models, such as spheroids and tumoroids, which reproduce tumor heterogeneity and microenvironments. It also includes 3D cultures of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), particularly those derived from teeth. In conclusion, 3D models are profoundly impacting the biomedical field by offering more accurate in vitro platforms for drug development and disease modeling, thereby significantly reducing the reliance on animal testing and leading to the advancement of personalized and regenerative medicine
Preliminary Assessments for Evacuation Plans: The Case Study of Popoli Terme, Pescara, Italy
This paper presents the initial stages in developing an evacuation plan for Popoli Terme, a small town in the province of Pescara, Italy. Recognizing the unique challenges posed by the geographic and demographic characteristics of the centre, the study aims to establish a robust data framework for emergency evacuations based on different surveying procedures. By integrating demographic analyses, urban network evaluations and assessments of buildings vulnerability and use, the research identifies the most critical issues within the town, with particular emphasis on its historic center. The paper discusses the methodology used to gather and analyze data, which includes GIS mapping of critical routes and a preliminary large-scale evaluation of building vulnerability to forecast resident behaviors and needs during evacuations. The proposed approach seeks to optimize evacuation efficiency and to ensure the safety of all residents. This case study contributes to the fields of urban planning and disaster management by serving as a replicable model for similar small towns that have to face the dual challenge of preserving their cultural heritage while enhancing resilience to emergencies

The contribution deepens the knowledge of these school models developed between the 1930s and 1940s in the newly formed province of Pescara. These buildings still bear witness today to the cultural and social role played by the school institution, despite the many tampering and incorrect renovations undergone over time
Treatment and outcomes after on-treatment recurrent venous thromboembolism in patients with cancer: a post hoc analysis of the Hokusai venous thromboembolism cancer study
Background: The management of recurrent venous thromboembolism (VTE) despite anticoagulant treatment in patients with cancer is uncertain. To address this, we used data from the Hokusai VTE Cancer trial, which compared edoxaban with dalteparin to treat cancer-associated VTE. Objectives: To characterize and evaluate anticoagulant treatment strategies during and after on-treatment recurrent VTE, including the type and dose of anticoagulant. Methods: In this post hoc analysis, all patients with adjudicated on-treatment recurrent VTE within 12 months after randomization were included. Outcomes were second recurrent VTE and major bleeding within 3 months after the first recurrent VTE. Results: A total of 67 patients developed on-treatment recurrent VTE while receiving therapeutic-dose edoxaban (31%), therapeutic-dose low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) (34%), maintenance-dose LMWH (21%), or other therapies (14%). After the recurrent event, 28 patients (42%) received an increased dose, 35 (52%) a comparable dose, and 4 (6%) a reduced dose or stopped anticoagulants. Common treatment regimens included supratherapeutic-dose LMWH (21%), therapeutic-dose LMWH (51%), direct oral anticoagulants (16%), or another treatment strategy (12%). In the 3 months after recurrent VTE, 6 (9%) patients had a second recurrence and 7 (10%) had major bleeding. Conclusion: Treatment strategies for recurrent VTE in patients with cancer are heterogeneous. The risk of a second recurrence and major bleeding are considerable. More studies are needed to determine the optimal treatment strategy for recurrent cancer-associated thrombosis
