Online Food Delivery and sustainability: what is the consumer perception? An empirical analysis among italian consumers
Today, thanks to technological and digital progress, the online food delivery
(OFD) industry is significantly emerging in markets worldwide, leading to
a major change in consumers eating habits. However, the rapid and strong
growth of this service has generated considerable impacts on the
environment and society. Given the urgency of moving towards purchasing
and consumption models that respect the planet and people, it becomes
clear the need to consider the phenomenon of online food delivery from a
broader perspective, trying to grasp its sustainable implications. The present
study thus aims to move in this direction, seeking to understand the current
degree of online food delivery diffusion among Italian consumers and their
level of awareness regarding the impacts of this sector in terms of
environmental, social, and economic sustainability. To achieve this
objective, a quantitative survey was conducted by means of an online
questionnaire. A total of 379 individuals participated in the study. The
results indicate that the propensity to use online food delivery is quite
widespread within the sample surveyed, even though this does not translate
into a particular frequency in the use of digital platforms involved in this
service. Furthermore, there is not yet a full understanding of the negative
implications that online food delivery may have if not managed along
sustainable lines. It is therefore evident that more effort is needed from both
online food delivery businesses and institutions to raise consumer awareness
of sustainability issues and promote responsible behaviour
Seismic Exposure Model at Regional and Over-Regional Scales to Analyze Local Masonry Building Typologies Through the Cartis Database: The Application on Northern Italy
Large-scale seismic risk assessments require a preliminary phase of qualitative and quantitative evaluation of all exposed elements: population, buildings, monumental assets, infrastructure, etc. Among these, knowledge of the built heritage represents a crucial aspect for understanding and addressing the consequences of earthquakes, both in terms of immediate interventions in emergency phase and in the planning of long-term strategies for risk reduction and prevention of effects on the territory. To address this issue, one solution is to identify representative building typologies in a given area to carry out both exposure and vulnerability assessments on the built environment of a territory, even with sophisticated analyses but with significantly reduced efforts thanks to the possibility of identifying a small number of archetype buildings. Therefore, the objective of this work is to develop an exposure model for identifying building typologies representative of areas of any extension, from municipal to national, through the definition of archetype buildings by statistically processing the information present in the CARTIS survey database. Here, in particular, the potential of a semi-automated procedure developed for the definition of a minimum portfolio of archetypes on different analysis scales has been identified: at the regional, over regional, and national scales. As a first validation, the data collected and processed on the regions belonging to Northern Italy were compared with the aim of extending the analysis sample to obtain exposure models on an increasingly larger scale
The Prevalence and Clinical Implications of Atlantal Posterior Arch Defects: A CBCT Analysis of 500 Italian Patients
Atlas Posterior Arch Deficiency (APAD) is a rare anatomical variation of the atlas vertebra detected using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). This study assessed the prevalence, classification, and clinical implications of APAD in an Italian cohort. Methods: We analyzed CBCT images from 500 Italian patients (17–60 years) from the University “G. D’Annunzio” in Chieti. The sample was evenly split between genders. The sample was evenly split between genders. APAD classification was performed, identifying five morphological types. Imaging used a low-dose protocol with a Pax-Zenith 3D CBCT machine and Dolphin imaging software (12.0.9.58). Results: APAD was identified in thirteen patients—twelve with partial APAD and one with complete APAD. Two cases also had Ponticulus Posticus. Type A anomalies were most common; no cases of types B, C, D, or E were observed. None of the cases were symptomatic. Conclusions: APAD is rare in this cohort, with partial forms being the most frequent. CBCT is effective for diagnosing APAD, highlighting the importance of routine imaging in orthodontic assessments. Despite the absence of symptoms, awareness and monitoring for potential symptoms are important. Further research is needed to understand APAD’s clinical significance across different populations

Tackling Environmental Impact: A New Support Tool for Sustainable Healthcare Waste Management
This study proposes a novel framework integrating Environmental Risk Assessment (ERA) and Material Flow Analysis (MFA) within the Deming Cycle framework to address this gap. While valuable tools, ERA and MFA offer limited perspectives on environmental impact when used alone. The framework aims to provide policymakers and decision-makers with insights into developing sustainable waste management strategies. By combining ERA and MFA, this research offers a comprehensive approach to evaluate the environmental impacts of healthcare waste, identify potential risks, and optimize waste management practices. A case study of an Italian private healthcare clinic is conducted to demonstrate the practical application of the proposed framework. Through a SWOT analysis, the benefits and challenges of integrating ERA and MFA in healthcare waste management are revealed, providing guidance for future research and implementation efforts. © 2025 The Author(s). Dalla colpa alla funzione: i punitive damages e le nuove traiettorie della responsabilità civile
I punitive damages hanno oltrepassato i confini del common law, alimentan-
do negli ordinamenti continentali un ripensamento critico della responsabilità
civile e delle sue funzioni. L’opera ripercorre l’evoluzione di questo istituto,
mettendo in luce come la sua natura polifunzionale – sollecitata dalle sempre
piú avvertite esigenze di effettività della tutela e di giustizia sostanziale – si
traduca oggi nel riconoscimento del ruolo dell’equità giudiziale, quale veicolo
di attuazione dei princípi ordinamentali, secondo i canoni di proporzionalità
e di ragionevolezza. Tale prospettiva trova compiuta espressione nel danno
non patrimoniale, terreno d’elezione per la tutela dei diritti della persona e
banco di prova della vocazione polifunzionale del risarcimento. Le medesime
istanze si rinvengono altresí in talune figure ultrariparatorie di fonte legislativa
(quali la responsabilità processuale aggravata, la restituzione dei profitti ille-
citi e il rimedio previsto per la diffamazione a mezzo stampa), oggetto di una
rilettura in chiave sistematica che valorizza la funzione della responsabilità
civile
Genetic insights into myeloproliferative neoplasms and unusual sites thrombosis
: Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) are associated with an elevated risk of thrombosis in unusual sites such as the splanchnic vein thrombosis (SVT) and cerebral vein thrombosis (CVT). In patients with unusual site thrombosis, screening for MPNs is routine, but diagnosis is often difficult due to the absence of clear clinical signs or elevated blood counts-frequently leading to an MPN-U classification-while the thrombotic event itself is often the first clue. Furthermore, there is no consensus on treatments beyond anticoagulation, leading to variability across centers. This study investigates the molecular characteristics of MPNs associated with SVT and CVT. We conducted a retrospective, multicenter analysis of 44 patients with MPN and unusual site thrombosis from Italian hematology units, using next-generation sequencing. (NGS) to identify driver and passengers mutations. Our findings confirm a high prevalence of unclassifiable MPN (MPN-U) among SVT patients. JAK2 p.V617F was found in 86.4% of cases, and patients with additional mutations had higher median JAK2 variant allele frequencies. JAK2 p.V617F is known to promote thrombosis by inducing a pro-inflammatory endothelial environment, particularly relevant in low-flow venous sites such as cerebral sinuses and splanchnic veins, supporting MPN screening in these patients. In contrast, data on JAK2-unmutated cases are more limited, but our cohort suggests a possible association between unusual site thrombosis and a more complex mutational profile involving multiple genetic alterations. TET2 mutations were more frequent in patients with MPN-CVT compared to the rest of the cohort (66.6% vs. 15.7%). Absence of KIT mutations was associated with poorer thrombotic recurrence-free survival, suggesting a negative prognostic role of KIT mutation. Brief report
