D(A)NTE’S (I)NFERNO RAPPRESENTAZIONE DELL’INFERNO DANTESCO ATTRAVERSO TECNICHE DI DISEGNO INTEGRATO A.I. E PARAMETRICO.
The Divine Comedy is a narrative work of great imaginative power in which Dante Alighieri conveys otherworldly scenarios that come to life in an extremely vivid way; its description has offered artists in every historical period an inexhaustible source of inspiration, prompting them to capture the visual and symbolic essence of Dante's work. The proposed research aims to recover the diagrammatic tradition, transporting it to the contemporary through the use of artificial intelligence technologies and parametric drawing to reconstitute a virtual model of Dante's inferno. Text-to-image (DallE3, Midjourney, KreaAI, Flux, Stable Diffusion), text-to-3d (LumbasAI, Luma AI Genie) and image-to-3d (Rodin AI, 3DFY, Meshy, Alpha3D) AIs will be used synergistically to model Dante's territory. AI-generated images trained with input models derived from Dante's iconography, making use of text-to-image/image-to-image algorithms, will serve as a 3D matrix to generate semi-three-dimensional structures that will generate backdrops and soils, while Image-to-3d algorithms will provide three-dimensional elements that will be recomposed into the circles through generative processes and traditional 3D modeling and arranged through algorithmic-procedural methodologies
The Effect of Exercise-Based Interventions on Health-Related Quality of Life of Patients with Hematological Malignancies: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Background/Objectives: Hematological cancers encompass a collection of heterogeneous conditions. The need for repeated treatments and prolonged hospitalization leads to a decrease in health-related quality of life. This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluate the effect of exercise interventions on functioning scales, global health status, and symptoms in patients with hematological cancers. Methods: PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus databases were systematically screened, and randomized controlled trials were included. The primary outcome was health-related quality of life assessed through the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life questionnaire. Meta-analysis was performed using a random-effects model and 95% confidence intervals. Results: A total of 14 trials involving 837 patients with mixed cancer types were included. Most studies evaluated exercise interventions during hospitalization, with aerobic and resistance training at moderate intensity being the most common modalities and adherence rates ranging from 28% to 100%. Exercise programs significantly improved physical (SMD 0.23; 95% CI: 0.06 to 0.40; p = 0.008), emotional (SMD 0.19; 95% CI: 0.03 to 0.36; p = 0.020) and cognitive functioning (SMD 0.20; 95% CI: 0.02 to 0.37; p = 0.026), and global health status (SMD 0.24; 95% CI: 0.03 to 0.46; p = 0.027). Significant reductions were observed in fatigue (SMD −0.33; 95% CI: −0.52 to −0.14; p = 0.001), pain (SMD −0.34; 95% CI: −0.53 to −0.15; p = 0.000), and insomnia (SMD −0.22; 95% CI: −0.41 to −0.03; p = 0.024). Heterogeneity was minimal across most domains, suggesting consistent findings. Conclusions: Exercise interventions are effective in enhancing functioning scales and global health status and reducing symptom burden in patients receiving intensive treatments. Future research is required to explore the long-term effects of exercise and develop tailored programs for specific hematologic malignancies and treatment settings

senza di omogeneità nel trasmettere questo dato da parte dei due manoscritti che tra
mandano questa Vita Lucani (U: Nam mortem Pompeii atque Catonis descripsit e L: Nam
mortem Catonis non descripsit) ha indotto gli studiosi o ad accogliere la frase tramandata dal
manoscritto U o a congetturare la presenza di una lacuna dopo atque segnalandola con
una crux desperationis. Partendo da tale premessa, scopo della presente indagine sarà avanzare una nuova proposta di lettura di quest’ultima frase, partendo da una nuova analisi del testo della Vita Lucani trasmessa dai codici U ed L e dagli eventuali rapporti di parentela intercorrenti tra questi due manoscritti
LncRNAs Ride the Storm of Epigenetic Marks
Advancements in genome sequencing technologies have uncovered the multifaceted roles of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in human cells. Recent discoveries have identified lncRNAs as major players in gene regulatory pathways, highlighting their pivotal role in human cell growth and development. Their dysregulation is implicated in the onset of genetic disorders and age-related diseases, including cancer. Specifically, they have been found to orchestrate molecular mechanisms impacting epigenetics, including DNA methylation and hydroxymethylation, histone modifications, and chromatin remodeling, thereby significantly influencing gene expression. This review provides an overview of the current knowledge on lncRNA-mediated epigenetic regulation of gene expression, emphasizing the biomedical implications of lncRNAs in the development of different types of cancers and genetic diseases
A scoping review of student Athletes’ perspectives on dual career policies, provisions and challenges
Dual career (DC) athletes face significant challenges in balancing dual demands of academic and athletic commitments. A scoping review of 25 studies published between 2014 and 2024 included data from over 3,000 student-athletes across 23 countries, with 88.5% focused on European contexts. Most adopted qualitative (52%) or quantitative (44%) approaches, with one study (4%) using a mixed method. Findings, synthesized using PRISMA guidelines, addressed logistical, social, financial, tutorship, curricula, and policy aspects. Recurring barriers included a lack of flexible educational programs, insufficient financial aid, and limited access to proximate sports and facilities. Social support systems, such as mentorship and institutional committees, emerged as essential for engagement and reducing isolation. European athletes frequently cited the need for improved financial support, highlighting scholarships and fee waivers. During the COVID-19 pandemic, e-learning strategies supported educational adherence and reduced stress, emphasizing their potential as flexible tool for addressing DC demands. However, disparities in policy implementation and service provision persist, with studies identifying cohesive institutional strategies for DC athletes. These findings underscore the need to develop harmonized frameworks across Europe, prioritizing integrated logistical planning, expanded financial support and tailored curricula. Broader perspectives from stakeholders are needed to enable DC athletes to thrive academically and athletically
Damped Bloch wave propagation in periodic architected viscoelastic materials: A Fourier-based scheme with quasi-Monte Carlo integration
This paper investigates the behavior of microstructured viscoelastic metamaterials with complex topologies, focusing on their wave propagation characteristics, specifically the behavior of damped Bloch waves. Fourier-based methods are used to solve the governing dynamic equations, taking into account both spatial and temporal damping effects. The study addresses eigenproblems related to Bloch wave dispersion, with a particular emphasis on rational eigenproblems, which are solved using an enhanced derationalization technique previously proposed by the authors. To efficiently approximate the Fourier coefficients, the technique utilizes the quasi-Monte Carlo integration method, which is particularly effective for complex geometries. An illustrative example based on triply periodic minimal surface structures is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. The results highlight the potential of these metamaterials for applications in noise reduction, impact resistance, and other advanced engineering fields
Oral Health of Astronauts in Short- and Long-Term Missions in Space
INTRODUCTION: Space exploration presents unique challenges to human health due to space radiation, reduced gravity, and prolonged isolation. Astronauts should be prepared to manage medical and dental emergencies. This scoping review maps the evidence on oral health alterations and dental emergencies faced by astronauts during short- and long-term space missions. METHODS: A "Topical Team" assembled by the European Space Agency performed the review described herein. An electronic search was conducted on scientific databases, reference lists of relevant papers, specific textbooks, and space agencies' databases. Inclusion criteria encompassed studies related to dental medicine in microgravity or outer orbital space conditions. Results are presented through narrative format. RESULTS: Out of 23,686 studies identified, 467 were considered eligible and 80 (54 reviews and 26 human-based studies) were included. The latter were classified into three broad topics: microbiology, space physiology and medicine, and space dentistry. Among the studies involving human subjects, 17 involved individuals who had spent time in space. There are only a few studies about oral health modifications and issues during spaceflight and those have limited evidence. Dental emergencies in space are relatively rare events that tend to increase with mission duration. DISCUSSION: The impact of microgravity on oral health requires further investigation. Preflight and in-flight measures should focus on prevention and treatment protocols for various dental issues to ensure crew safety and mission success. Understanding and addressing factors affecting oral health in microgravity will enhance the well-being of astronauts and the success of human exploration missions in space. Interference of Estrogen Signaling by Endocrine Disruptors in Male and Female Cells: Potential Implications of BPS and PFOS in Human Development
Endocrine-disruptors (EDs), such as bisphenol-S (BPS) and perfluorooctane-sulfonate (PFOS), can cross the placental barrier and interfere with fetal development, inducing consequences that seem to be more pronounced in males. We investigated whether BPS and PFOS could have different effects on male and female human induced-pluripotent-stem cells (hiPSCs) by analyzing their impact on estrogen signaling pathways. Our results demonstrate that in male hiPSCs, BPS and PFOS induce alterations in the estrogen pathways, confirming their role as xenoestrogens. BPS and PFOS also upregulated oxidative phosphorylation proteins in males, while disruptions in Golgi apparatus integrity were observed in female cells. These findings highlight the differential susceptibility of male and female cells to ED exposure and suggest that such chemicals, perturbing the hormonal network, may affect developmental programming and long-term health.
