temp: Sinologist Gregory B. Lee stated in his 2018 book China imagined that, "For several centuries now, European and American sinologists and novelists have imagined their own China, and have narrated and imposed China according to this imaginary. Until now, this Western imaginary of China has been globally dominant.[1] By mimicry, Chinese intellectuals also imagined the West through books translated in the 80s of the 20th century. When they left China, they were confronted not only with the West they imagined, but also with the China imagined by Westerners.
With extremely different federal, national and local situations, it is interesting to note that some public institutions - universities, museums, research centres, associations - are doing their best to integrate staff and members of the public who are excluded from their activities. Transnational practices and knowledge are tending to emerge from the perspective of Agenda 21 for culture, cultural rights and the UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.
When implemented with students with an immigrant background or racialized, the needs assessment process can lead to over- or underrepresentation of these students in special education. Knowing that the representations of school actors on students have a major impact on the implementation of equitable practices, this article aims to identify the linguistic ideologies of school speech-language pathologists from the analysis of 21 assessment reports of plurilingual students. The results show that imposed and assimilationist monolingualism, segregationist multilingualism and plurilingualism are unevenly present in the corpus. The discussion addresses the presence of fluctuating linguistic ideologies between the participants and within one specific participant, the low recognition of the linguistic repertoire of the students and the crystallization of the latter through the considered “mother tongue” as well as the possible links between the results and student’s feeling of linguistic in/security.
Linguistic insecurity may occur in a diglossic environment like Reunion Island, where French, the dominant, official language, is also the language of schooling. The native language with low prestige is Creole. The collected and analyzed data includes: language learners’ profiles, class observations, oral and written tasks in English language, and teachers’ interviews. Great efforts have to be achieved in the Reunionese school community to legitimize and enhance the use of Creole, even though it is recognized as a regional language. This article focuses on the progress of linguistic insecurity from the Reunionese macro-system to English classes on Reunion Island. According to the learners’ profiles, this insecurity may vanish. We thus examine the drawbacks of fragile skills in the French language partly linked to French-Creole contact mixing languages, to an unsuitable pedagogy, and the limitations of a monolithic French education system when learning a foreign language, such as English, in a plurilingual environment.L’insécurité linguistique peut se manifester dans un environnement diglossique tel que l’île de La Réunion, où le français demeure la langue de prestige officielle et institutionnelle, et le créole, la langue maternelle majoritaire non valorisante (L1).

This article analyses the black characters of one novella by Cervantes (El celoso extremeño) and two by Zayas (El prevenido engañado and Tarde llega el desengaño). On the one hand, I will examine the stereotypical features of these characters. On the other hand, my main thesis is that these novellas also allow anti-racist readings. Cervantes’ and Zayas’ literary slaves are not helpless victims, but rather characters with dignity, wit, and determination to achieve their ends. Since these findings are applicable to other texts, I propose a revision of literature on slavery in the global Hispanic world of the seventeenth century.

New Liberalisms for the Masses: Ontological Aristocratism and Equal Rights in José Ortega y Gasset’s La rebelión de las masas (1930) and María Zambrano’s Horizonte del liberalismo (1930)
In view of the importance of mass movements and the sociopolitical crises in the early twentieth century, this article offers close readings of the liberalisms proposed in La rebelión de las masas and Horizonte del liberalismo. Ortega posits an ontological differentiation between masas and minorías excelentes based on the notion of “effort,” allowing individuals not belonging to hereditary aristocracies to ideologically appropriate aristocratic prestige. By contrast, Zambrano emphasizes the power of reform invested in the liberal subject. Although they assess the equality of rights divergently, both philosophers coincide in situating aristocratism at the core of liberalism.
Remembering the Empire: Imperial Nostalgia and Amnesia in 1898: Los últimos de Filipinas (2016) by Salvador Calvo
This article analyzes the Spanish film 1898: Los últimos de Filipinas (2016) by director Salvador Calvo, a dramatization of an episode of the Spanish-American War. Several critics have read the film as a nuanced and anti-patriotic adaptation of this historical event, in contrast to the Francoist propaganda film Los últimos de Filipinas (1945) by Antonio Román. Drawing on the term “imperial amnesia”, we argue that the film patriotically highlights the heroism of the Spanish characters while downplaying the violence of the colonial relationship. In the end, this narrative enacts a fantasy of reconciliation between Spain and the Philippines.
The Teacher’s Rhetoric of Liberal Democracy and Minori\u27ethage in La patota (Argentina, 2015): An Open Decolonial Debate
La patota (Argentina, 2015) recreates the experience of Paulina, a young lawyer who participates in a civics program in a rural school next to Posadas (Misiones). As in the plot of the original 60s film, the lawyer-teacher is raped by a gang (patota), of which some of her students are a part. She becomes pregnant and decides not to have an abortion. Based on the modernity/coloniality perspective, this socio-critical study applies the neologism “minori\u27ethage” to disarticulate the way in which the 2015 remake problematizes five centuries of coloniality and highlights the patriarchal environment in which everybody got trapped, underscoring the dangers of “playing fake democracy.”La patota/Paulina (Argentina, 2015) recrea la experiencia de Paulina, joven abogada que decide participar en un programa cívico en una escuela rural próxima a Posadas (Misiones).
