Reconnaissance et actions politiques d’infirmières praticiennes spécialisées québécoises : une analyse féministe
La reconnaissance conférée aux infirmières qui exercent en secteurs des soins spécialisés au Québec est peu documentée dans les écrits. Le but de cette étude visait à explorer leurs expériences de reconnaissance vécues au quotidien, la façon dont ces expériences se répercutent sur leurs conditions d’exercices, en plus d’explorer les actions individuelles et collectives qu’elles mobilisent ou souhaiterait mobiliser pour transformer le statu quo et obtenir la reconnaissance qu’elles méritent. Cette étude qualitative inductive qui s’inscrivait de plein fouet dans la théorie critique a permis la combinaison de réflexions théoriques féministes et postmodernes. Un total de n=6 entrevues semi-dirigées ont été réalisées pour cette section d’un projet qualitatif plus large de n=21 participantes (projet central). Au terme de cette étude, il apparait que ces infirmières vivent différentes contraintes ayant pour effets de dégrader considérablement leurs conditions d’exercice. Elles sont conscientes de l’importance d’agir politiquement pour transformer les choses et pour prendre la place qui leur revient dans la sphère sociale, mais subissent notamment des contraintes au déploiement de leurs actions
Self-Determination, Participation, and Openness: Insights from Latin America to Canada\u27s Implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples
This policy brief analyses Canada’s Action Plan 2023-2028 (Action Plan) under the lens of Indigenous self-determination as defined by the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP). It assesses how Indigenous self-determination within the UNDRIP is not ontologically opposed to state sovereignty. Using Bolivia – the state with the largest Indigenous population in the Americas – as a comparative case study, it argues that effective Indigenous self-determination requires not only the implementation of Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC), but also a policy stance defined as Openness – the welcoming and active inclusion of Indigenous in the Canadian government institutional structure, both in formal advisory positions and as members of the workforce
Media and Military Perceptions of the Canadian Media Embedding Concept During the War in Afghanistan
The purpose of this study is to analyze the perceptions of journalists and military personnel about the Canadian media embedding concept during the Afghanistan war. Based on their experiences with battle groups in Kabul and Kandahar between 2003 and 2011, embedded journalists, public affairs officers, and commanders describe what embedding is. The results demonstrate a multifaceted concept of embedding. Based on 93 semi-structured interviews conducted between October 2013 and November 2014, the analysis confirms that embedding is a way of managing access without prior censorship but rather through a contractual and negotiation process. Respondents also describe embedding as reporting that is primarily focused on the military perspective to accomplish communication objectives. Finally, respondents explain in this qualitative case study that embedding is a situational and experiential practice according to the specific operational or political context of each rotation
The Game Plan: A Scoping Review of Implementation Science in Sport Science
Integrating evidence-informed information into everyday practice can present significant challenges. The field of implementation science (IS) emerged to help improve the connection of scientific findings to standard practice and minimize the knowledge-to-action gap. IS refers to the scientific study of methods to promote the adoption of evidence-informed practices (EIP) and has been adopted in many disciplines, including sport sciences. The present scoping review provides a comprehensive and critical overview of how IS has been used in the context of sport science between 1900 and 2024. Four databases (i.e., Web of Science, Sport Discus, Scopus, Medline-OVID) were searched using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR). The search yielded 31 articles that met the final inclusion criteria, and study characteristics were extracted and assessed including the article’s methods, focus/foci, tools, strategies, and outcomes. Results revealed that most (over 50%) of the articles meeting the criteria examined how IS can be used for injury prevention, with very few articles examining how IS can be used for other areas of sport including psychological interventions or coaching practices (amongst others). Importantly, in studies where IS was integrated into the methodological design, there was a greater efficiency in resource allocation and health outcomes for end-users. This scoping review provides important insights about the landscape of IS in sport science and highlights opportunities for researchers and practitioners to employ IS methods for enhancing the adoption of EIPs
Acute Effects of Using Individual Velocity Targets to Regulate Resistance Training Load
We determined the acute biomechanical, physiological, and perceptual effects of using individualised velocity targets (IVT) or a percentage of one repetition maximum (%1RM) to regulate resistance training load. Thirty-nine resistance-trained adults (age: 21.8±3.2 years) completed two strength training sessions (five sets of five free-weight back squats) in a randomised, counterbalanced order. The %1RM session involved using a fixed load at 80% 1RM, whereas the IVT session used a modifiable load corresponding to the mean velocity at 80% 1RM. Kinetic and kinematic data and rating of perceived exertion (RPE) were recorded during training sessions. Countermovement jump (CMJ) height and blood lactate concentration were measured pre- and post-session, and perceived muscle soreness and fatigue were measured 24-hours post-exercise using 10-point Likert scales. We used null-hypothesis significance testing to test for differences between conditions and two one-sided tests (TOST) to assess equivalence. IVT significantly increased sessional mean velocity (mean difference=0.05 m·s-1), peak velocity (0.08 m·s-1), mean power (54.4 W), and peak power (141 W), while significantly reducing barbell load (-2.7 kg), RPE (-0.49), time under tension (-0.13 s), and velocity loss (0.02 m·s-1), compared to %1RM. IVT and %1RM had equivalent effects on post-exercise perceived fatigue (0.11, 10-point-scale) and pre-post changes in blood lactate (-0.50 mmol/L) and CMJ height (-0.75 cm). In conclusion, using individualised velocity targets to regulate resistance training load increases movement velocity in repeated sets of free-weight back squats but does not meaningfully influence markers of post-exercise fatigue compared to %1RM
Using digital technologies with immigrant plurilingual language learners: A research synthesis
With massive migratory flows observed around the world, schools are experiencing an unprecedented increase in the enrolment of children who speak multiple languages. Educators are called upon to facilitate immigrant plurilingual students’ inclusion and development of functional competencies in the target language(s), often using digital technologies (DTs) to promote language learning and plurilingual teaching practices. This research synthesis explores the research trends, methods, and findings from studies focused on the use of DTs with immigrant plurilingual language learners. The results highlight that DTs are used in heterogeneous contexts to support the development of immigrant plurilingual students’ overall language proficiency, (multi)literacies, engagement, as well as identity development. However, teachers and learners may require additional support to use DTs and plurilingual practices to their full potential. These concerns point to the need for ongoing professional learning and contextualised supports for educators at the intersection of these areas.Les flux migratoires massifs observés dans le monde poussent les éducatrices et éducateurs à faciliter l’intégration des élèves immigrants plurilingues par le développement de compétences fonctionnelles dans la ou les langue(s) cible(s). Il a également été démontré que les technologies numériques (TN) présentent un grand potentiel pour promouvoir l’apprentissage des langues et les pratiques d’enseignement plurilingues. Cette revue systématique de la littérature se consacre aux études empiriques centrées sur l’usage des TN auprès des élèves nouveaux arrivants depuis 2000. Les résultats soulignent que les TN sont utilisés dans des contextes hétérogènes pour soutenir le développement des compétences linguistiques globales, la (multi)littératie et l’identité. Cependant, le personnel enseignant et les apprenants peuvent avoir besoin d’un soutien supplémentaire pour utiliser pleinement les TN et les pratiques plurilingues. Un apprentissage professionnel continu et contextualisé s’avère donc nécessaire pour les éducatrices et éducateurs à la croisée de ces domaines
