RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN COMPETITION AND FINANCIAL DEVELOPMENT IN COUNTRIES: COMPARISON OF TURKEY-BRICS COUNTRIES
The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of competition on the financial development of countries. For this purpose, Turkey, and BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) were selected as sample countries for the study. A 17-year dataset was created with country data from 2005 to 2021 as the time period. The competitiveness factor is included in the analysis as an independent variable, using data from the Global Competitiveness Index published by the World Bank. The indices of the most traded stocks on the stock exchanges, which represent the financial performance of countries, were used as the dependent variable. The methods used in the study were the Westerlund cointegration test, Augmented Mean Group (AMG) estimation and Common Correlated Effects (CCE) estimation. The analyzes conducted showed that competition has a positive and significant impact on the financial performance of the sample countries
A society, a disease, a survey and the expected result
COVID-19, which affects the whole world, has affected people, societies and human relations throughout the process. The COVID-19 pandemic both limited people's social lives and changed the perspective of people who carry the virus. Anxiety, fear, haste, loneliness, worry were the most common emotions. In this study, we aimed to evaluate how social warnings affect people, the effects of death risk due to the disease, the side effects of the drugs used on behavior change, and the underlying factors. 189 cases were included in the study. The study was designed in the style of a 20-question questionnaire on the effects of covid-19 and treatment options on the behavior pattern. The responses were evaluated and interpreted as percentages. Variables on family and social behavior related to anxiety, fear, panic, and loneliness caused by COVID-19 and the drugs used in its treatment were observed. Negative effects of COVID-19 were observed in family and community relations. COVID-19 has caused psychological and sociological changes in interpersonal and social behaviors all over the world. There are differences in behavioral patterns among societies. In Turkish society, behavioral changes arising from the characteristic and patriarchal characteristics of the society have been observed. A more detailed assessment of the effects of COVID-19 and subsequent pandemics on the individual and society remains important
Examination of eating disorder risk and effective factors in university students
The aim of this study; determine the eating attitudes and behaviors of university students, who are a sensitive population in terms of eating disorders, and to examine some related factors. A structured questionnaire and face-to-face interviews collected the data. The data collection form has two sections: one for sociodemographics and health behaviors, and one for dietary habits and eating disorders using eating disorders scale (REZZY). The questionnaire explained voluntary study participation. The mean age of the 762 university students included in the study was 23.44±5.33 years and 58.40% were female. Variables that one- off analyses suggested might be connected to the risk of developing eating disorders were examined using the logistic regression model. There was a significant and positive correlation between the REZZY-Total (REZZY-T) score, bulimia and food preoccupation (EAT-1) and dieting (EAT-2) (p<0.01). The study group's female had an eating disorder risk that was 2.1 times greater than that of the male. As students advance through their educational phase, the risk of eating disorders significantly declines (p<0.001). Positive factors reduced the risk of eating disorders by 1.4 times, whereas negative factors roughly doubled it (p<0.001). Impaired eaters eat when they're not hungry, restrict their diet, obsess over their diet, and use food to cope with negative emotions. This will cause emotional, physical, and social problems and lower their quality of life. To prevent disease, improve mental health, and reduce social issues, examine eating behavior
Determining the Relationship Between Intolerance of Uncertainty and Attitudes Toward Complementary and Alternative Medicine in Patients With Cancer
Disease-related uncertainty and the factors associated with uncertainty in patients with cancer have not been adequately investigated. This study aimed to determine the relationship between intolerance of uncertainty and attitudes toward complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) in patients with cancer. This cross-sectional descriptive study included 351 patients treated in the oncology clinic of a university hospital. All participants completed the Holistic Complementary and Alternative Medicine Questionnaire (HCAMQ) and the 12-item Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale (IUS-12). Most patients (84.3%) said that they had information about CAM, 39.7% reported obtaining this information from their social environment, 83.2% said that they believed that CAM methods are effective, and 76.0% reported not telling health care professionals about their CAM use. Mean IUS-12 and HCAMQ total scores were 46.53 & PLUSMN; 2.05 and 32.11 & PLUSMN; 2.32, respectively, and showed a weak negative correlation. The patients in our study showed high intolerance of uncertainty and a moderately positive attitude toward CAM, and most patients did not notify health care professionals of their CAM use. Therefore, we recommend assessing intolerance of uncertainty and CAM use in this patient group. By identifying patients experiencing uncertainty and seeking different treatment, nurses can support patients physiologically, psychologically, and socially, and can explain the effects of CAM use

Predictive Factors of Postoperative Pancreatic Fistula in Geriatric Patients Undergoing Pancreatoduodenectomy for Periampullary Malignancy
Objective: To identify predictive factors associated with the occurrence of postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) following pancreato-duodenectomy (PD) in an increasingly geriatric population.Study Design: Observational study.Place and Duration of the Study: Department of General Surgery, Inonu University, Malatya, Turkey, from January 2010 to April 2022.Methodology: Demographic and clinicopathological data of 74 geriatric patients who underwent PD for periampullary tumours in the clinic at Inonu University were retrieved from the patient database. POPF was defined and categorised based on the guidelines established by the International Study Group for Pancreatic Surgery (ISGPS). The patients were stratified into two cohorts of POPF and no POPF. Univariate and multivariate analyses were conducted to compare variables between the two groups. Results: The median age of the patient population was 72 (65-92) years, and 51 (68.9%) individuals were male. Among the 74 patients, 35 (47.3%) experienced POPF. In the multivariate analysis, hypertension (HT, p=0.012), Wirsung diameter <3.5 mm (p<0.01), and pancreaticojejunostomy (PJ, p=0.022) emerged as independent risk factors for POPF.Conclusion: In the context of geriatric patients undergoing PD, HT, intraoperative wirsung diameter <3.5 mm, and PJ were identified as independent risk factors for POPF. These findings can guide the adoption of safer techniques in preoperative and intraoperative evaluations, as well as in postoperative follow-ups of patients presenting with these risk factors

Conclusion: The quality of life in donors was lower than the standard values of Turkish population, and health concerns were higher than those of the healthy volunteers. © 2024 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved
The Relationship between Behavioral Tendencies and Stock Market Participation: A Study for Accounting and Finance Academics
The purpose of this study is to identify the behavioral tendencies of accounting and finance academics in participating in the stock market and to examine the impact of these behavioral tendencies on their participation in the stock market. Behavioral finance recognizes that investors do not act rationally. Investors are influenced by behavioral trends and socioeconomic factors in addition to risk and return factors. Although there are many behavioral tendencies, the most basic behavioral tendencies recognized in the literature are risk tolerance, self-confidence, herd behavior, and anchoring tendencies. Along with the above factors, the socioeconomic factors of the participants and their participation in the stock market were also examined. The surveys, which were conducted among a total of 403 academics in the field of accounting and finance, were analyzed using logistic regression and chi-square test. As a result of the analyzes conducted in this study, it was found that there is a relationship between behavioral tendencies and 8 socioeconomic factors and participation in the stock market. Moreover, it was found that demographic variables such as age, marital status, amount of savings and years of academic experience have a significant relationship with participation in the stock market
