RENAL LYMPH FLOW AND COMPOSITION DURING ACETAZOLAMIDE AND FUROSEMIDE DIURESIS
Several lines of research suggest that renallymph is formed totally, or in part, as a filtrate ofpostglomerular blood. Even so, renal interstitial fluiddynamics is necessarily dominated by the rapidtransfer of large volumes of reabsorbate from tubularlumen to peritubular capillary. To determine the effectsof tubular reabsorption on lymph formation,renal lymph flow and composition were studiedbefore and during alterations in tubular reabsorptionproduced by diuresis. A 25% reduction in wholekidney fluid reabsorption rate did not alter renallymph flow or lymph protein concentration. A concomitantdecrease in plasma protein concentration,however, suggests that any deficit in lymph flowresulting from decreased reabsorbate content mayhave been obscured by an increase in vascular filtration.An increase in renal lymph PAH and creatinineconcentrations relative to those of arterial and renalvenous blood plasma supports this conclusion. It appearsthat renal lymph flow may be determined byboth vascular filtration and tubular reabsorption
THE RELATION OF THE LYMPHATIC SYSTEM TO HEMOLYMPH NODES IN THE SHEEP
Sublumbar lymphatic drainage was examined infetal and adult sheep for potential connections withhemolymph (hemal) nodes. Despite numerous channelsentering sublumbar lymph nodes there were nolymphatic communications with hemal nodes. Inovine ruminants hemolymph nodes are separate fromthe lymphatic system
TOPOGRAPHY OF INTRARENAL LYMPHATICS
The intrarenal topography of lymph vessels injected with India ink was examined in 32 canine kidneys. In the upper portion of the renal cortex most lymphatics were associated with subcapsular veins and tubules. In the cortical midpartion lymphatics were generally aligned with interlobular arteries and veins, glomeruli, and tubules. These lymphatics commonly encircled interlobular arteries and formed an interconnecting plexus adjacent to glomeruli. In the lower portion (i.e., corticomedullary zone), renal lymphatics passed between loops of Henle and collecting tubules
NEONATAL LYMPHEDEMA FROM THORACIC DUCT OBSTRUCTION COMPLICATING PERCUTANEOUS INTRAVENOUS CENTRAL CATHETERIZATION
Percutaneous intravenous central catheter (PICC) complications are not common and generalized edema and anasarca in neonates as a complication of PICC malposition is even rarer. Documentation of the pathomechanisms of lymphedema in cases of severe anasarca in neonates is not often done. Here we document thoracic duct obstruction as the cause of lymphedema in a neonate with severe nonpitting generalized edema. Most PICC procedures should ideally be guided by point-of-care bedside ultrasound (US), and this precaution may prevent malposition of PICC lines although it will not detect subsequent migration or extravasation

Because the spleen can no longer be considered readily dispensable, a variety of alternatives to total splenectomy (splenic repair, partial resection, autotransplantation, ischemic therapy, reticuloendothelial blockade and irradiation) have been developed to preserve functioning remnants in trauma and hypersplenism. It remains unclear how much spleen adequately protects against OPSI or under persistent workload stimulus leads to recurrence of hypersplenis
BCG-INDUCED CHANGES IN THE POST CAPILLARY VENULES OF THE GUINEA PIG LYMPH NODE
The post capillary venules (PCV) of the regional lymph nodes of BCG-injected male and female guinea pigs were examined under light and electron microscopy. The endothelial cells showed increased height and pyroninophilia. Their cytoplasm contained increased numbers of ribosomes and polyribosomes and prominent rough endoplasmic reticulum with oc casionally dilated cisternae. The number of lymphocytes migrating through the PCV wall was also increased. The activation of the endothelial cells of PCV induced by BCG may increase the recirculation of lymphocytes from the blood stream. These may be of importance in the antitumour activity of BCG. In control guinea pigs the height of the endothelial cells of PCV was significantly greater in the female than in the male. After BCG injection this sex difference was still apparent
