    No full text

International audienceMurray Edwards College at Cambridge University (UK) houses the largest collection of women modern and contemporary art in Europe. This collection was initiated in the 1990s. Maintained in a university context, it is still relatively unknown. This article explores its origins and its content. It will then highlight the works of Hispanic and Portuguese-speaking artists that are part of it, examining their place in the collection and within the artistic and cultural ecosystem of a British university. The paper will present the political, pedagogical, and artistic role of these women’s artworks in an academic space, which is also a public space.

    No full text
International audienceThis article explores the localisation of the units and buildings in the three instalments of the video game StarCraft II into French. The fictive terms are used in the source text not only as a world-building tool but also as a characterisation tool for the three alien species embodied by the players. The specific challenges of translating science fiction, as well as the constraints of video game localisation, layer and interconnect during the process. The video game offers players a unique experience that must be reproduced in the localisation process to ensure an equivalent reception in the target language. The analysis is divided into two parts: first, it examines how the fictive terms describing the units and buildings are created and used in the game to fulfil not only their interactive function but also their narrative function. Then, through a contrastive analysis between the source and target terms, the translators’ choices and strategies are identified and analysed to understand how these terms were handled and whether the localisation offers the same gaming experience to French-speaking players.

Strong-field regime within effective field theory

    No full text
International audienceBuilding upon the Covariant Derivative Expansion, we develop a method to compute effective actions that is able to capture non-perturbative effects induced by strong background fields. We demonstrate the method in scalar QED, by deriving the full second-derivative corrections to the scalar Heisenberg--Euler effective action. The corresponding result is interpreted as an effective field theory with three characteristic scales, two of which are large (mass and field strength) in comparison with the remaining one (derivatives of the field). As an application, we show that, at this order, the transseries structure of the Schwinger pair production rate is preserved, even if the involved coefficients are modified. Our analysis also helps clarify recent disagreements concerning the coefficients of this effective action

Revisiting 15 years of unusual transatlantic monetary policies

    No full text
International audienceThe European Central Bank and the Federal Reserve introduced new policy instruments and made changes to their operational frameworks to address the global financial crisis (2008) and the Covid-19 pandemic (2020). We study the macroeconomic effects of these monetary policy evolutions on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean by developing and estimating a tractable two-country dynamic stochastic general equilibrium model. We show that the euro area and the United States faced shocks of different natures, explaining some asynchronous monetary policy measures between 2008 and 2023. However, counterfactual exercises highlight that all conventional and unconventional policies implemented since 2008 have appropriately (i) supported economic growth and (ii) maintained inflation on track in both areas. The exception is the delayed reaction to the inflationary surge during 2021–2022. Furthermore, exchange rate shocks played a significant role in shaping the overall monetary conditions of the two economies
