    Get PDF
The aim of this study is to determine how perceived organisational support and organisational trust affect innovative work behaviour through the mediation mechanism of tacit knowledge sharing in a public organisation context in Nigeria. Using the cross-sectional research design, data were randomly collected from 258 employees from the Delta State Ministry of Health, which was subjected to the partial least square (PLS) analytical procedure for hypothesis testing. The PLS analysis results suggested that while tacit knowledge sharing mediates perceived organisational support and organisational trust link to innovative work behaviour, it also mediates perceived organisational support link to innovative work behaviour sequentially with organisational trust as an antecedent. The study concluded that perceived organisational support and organisational trust prediction of innovative work behaviour can be explained by tacit knowledge sharing. The study puts forward important practical implications for organisations/management to follow in effectuating the linkages among the constructs in a meaningful and coherent manner

Identification of Carbohydrates Metabolic Related Enzymes for Lipid Production in Botryococcus sp., a Microalgae Isolated from Taman Negara Endau Rompin: Carbohydrates metabolic enzymes for lipid production

    No full text
Botryococcus is a microalgal genus known for its ability to generate and accumulate substantial amounts of lipids via carbohydrate metabolism. This work determined the metabolic pathways and enzymes involved in carbohydrate metabolism leading to increased synthesis of fat in Botryococcus sp. Relevant intracellular and extracellular metabolites were extracted and quantified using chromatographic analysis. Enzymes involved in carbohydrate metabolism leading to lipid formation in Botryococcus sp. under natural conditions were also discovered by one-dimensional gel electrophoresis followed by proteomic mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) and database searching. Proximate analysis demonstrated 23.0% total carbohydrate, 16.0% protein and 61.0% lipid per milligram biomass dry weight of Botryococcus sp. The extracellular metabolites constitute mostly of cyclohydrocarbons, nitrogenated hydrocarbons, siloxanes, phenols, and phenol derivatives. A glycolytic enzyme “enolase,” which can create phosphoenolpyruvate and subsequently convert it into pyruvate, was found in this study. This study revealed that enolase provided an alternate pathway to export fixed carbon to the cytoplasm, hence providing a shorter route to lipid production than the normal process via the plastid leading to the manufacture of more lipids in the cells of Botryococcus sp. than other microalgae of the same group. &nbsp

Physical Quality of Eggs in Pengging Duck (Anas platyrinchos) after Administration of Nanochitosan as a Feed Additive: Nanochitosan as feed additives in duck egg production

    No full text
The problem often encountered by laying duck breeders is a decrease in the physical quality of eggs. Nanochitosan is a polysaccharide that has the potential as a feed additive to improve the physical quality of eggs in pengging ducks. The use of nanochitosan at levels of 2.5, 5.0, 7.5 and 10.0 g/kg of feed can improve digestive performance and nutrient absorption in ducks. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of nanochitosan as a feed additive on the physical quality of eggs in pengging ducks. This study used a completely randomised design with five groups and five ducks per group. The treatments consist of control and the addition of nanochitosan as a feed additive with a concentration of 2.5, 5.0, 7.5 and 10.0 g/kg of feed. The variables observed in this study included the haugh unit (HU), yolk index (IKT), yolk weight, white weight, egg weight, shell thickness, and egg shape index. The research data were analysed using ANOVA with a significance level of 5%. The results showed that the addition of nanochitosan at different levels (2.5, 5.0, 7.5 and 10.0 g/kg of feed) had a significant effect on the measured egg quality consisting of HU, IKT, egg yolk weight, egg white weight, egg weight egg, shell thickness, and egg shape index. The study concluded that nanochitosan can be used as a feed additive to improve the physical quality of eggs in pengging ducks. The use of nanochitosan with different levels as a feed additive can be useful for others by providing a reference about the levels of nanochitosan used as a feed additive which can improve the physical quality of duck eggs and become important information in increasing exploration in the use of nanochitosan products. This study is expected to open opportunities for further research in the future about the mechanistic effects of nanochitosan in improving egg quality and productivity of laying ducks

    No full text
The study aims (1) to isolate and characterise the heterotrophic bacteria from different rivers in Bintulu, Sarawak, (2) to investigate the hygienic condition of the rivers through faecal coliforms and (3) to determine the antibiotic resistance among the heterotrophic bacteria isolates. A total of 100 heterotrophic bacteria strains were identified from rivers of Bintulu, Sarawak. The characterisation of bacteria was performed using (GTG)5 fingerprinting to investigate their genetic distribution diversity and 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Microbiological variables tested including total viable count, coliform count, Escherichia coli confirmation test. Antibiotic susceptibility test was performed against 10 antibiotics. Sample collected from Sungai Teknik showed higher mean bacterial population size (log 4.48 ± 0.00 CFU/mL). Sungai Sibiu, Waterfront and Sungai Plan revealed the highest most probable number (MPN) index (>1,600 per mL). Each dendrogram showed 3 to 7 clusters of bacteria groups confirmed as Enterobacter spp. (40%), Acinetobacter spp. (13%), Bacillus spp. (13%), Klebsiella spp. (13%), Staphylococcus spp. (7%), Chromobacterium spp. (7%) and Citrobacter spp. (7%). All the heterotrophic bacteria isolated showed high resistance against ciprofloxacin (63.70 ± 33.40%), piperacillin (58.10 ± 31.37%), aztreonam (48.40 ± 30.95%) and more susceptible to tetracycline (3.30 ± 10.44%). Our findings highlight the multiple antibiotics resistance and microbiological analysis of heterotrophic bacteria found in polluted river water. The preservation of the river water is vital as hydrologic purposes, sustain the microbial composition, ecological integrity of the river

ABILITY, MOTIVATION, OPPORTUNITY-ENHANCING HRM PRACTICES AND CORPORATE ENVIRONMENTAL CITIZENSHIP: REVISITING THE MODERATING ROLE OF ORGANISATIONAL LEARNING CAPABILITY IN MALAYSIAN CONSTRUCTION COMPANIES

    Get PDF
This study examines the connection between ability, motivation, opportunity-enhancing HRM practices and corporate environmental citizenship. Organisational learning capability is also introduced as a moderator between the connections of AMO-enhancing HRM practices and corporate environmental citizenship. Systematic sampling technique was utilized to determine the study sample with a total response of 150. The study found that ability and opportunity-enhancing HRM practices are related to corporate environmental citizenship except for motivation-enhancing HRM practices. Similarly, organisational learning capability has no moderating effect on such relationships. In addition to that, this study has provided a comprehensive understanding of corporate environmental citizenship in the construction industry in Malaysia. This substantially adds a new dimension to the literature

MANAGERIAL CAPABILITIES, LEARNING ORIENTATION AND PERFORMANCE OF INTERNATIONAL HALAL INDUSTRY USING UPPER ECHELON THEORY

    Get PDF
Upper echelon theory (UET) emphsizes the role of management in determining firm strategy that can lead to performance. Many studies have been conducted on UET but very few have addressed UET in international business research, especially in the halal industry. Implementing learning orientation as a culture can serve as a medium in transferring tacit knowledge within the firm. Therefore, this research was conducted to examine the mediating effect of learning orientation between managerial capabilities and international firm performance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the halal industry. This is a quantitative, cross-sectional study with a total of 136 responses analyzed using PLS-SEM. The results show that the impact of top-management team’s (TMT) knowledge of foreign markets on international firm performance depends on learning orientation and partially mediates the relationship between TMT’s international experience and international firm performance. The study is novel in that it tests UET in the halal industry and introduces a new mediator to the UET framework

HOW PERCEIVED WORKPLACE OSTRACISM HINDERS CREATIVITY: COWORKER ENVY AS A TRIGGER

    Get PDF
Workplace ostracism is a construct that requires further studies since it potentially affects ostracized individuals’ attitudes and behaviors, yet it is still understudied. The present study aimed to analyze the mechanism of the emergence of workplace ostracism through coworker envy and its effect on employee creativity. Creative process engagement was also used as a mediating variable for the effect of workplace ostracism on creativity. The data were gathered using a self-report questionnaire distributed to employees in the service sector. Out of 592 questionnaires filled out online, 201 met the criteria for further analysis. The result showed that coworker envy significantly and positively affects workplace ostracism. The finding also suggested that workplace ostracism has a negative and significant effect on creative process engagement but has no significant effect on employee creativity. However, this study revealed that creative process engagement fully mediated the negative effect of workplace ostracism on creativity

CONSUMER ATTITUDES TOWARD CAUSE-RELATED PRODUCTS: A STUDY OF JAPANESE CUSTOMERS AND BENEFICIARY-MADE ITEMS

    Get PDF
Much research has been done on cause-related marketing activities implemented by for-profit businesses. However, researchers seem to neglect that the beneficiaries make specific products used in cause-related campaigns, and for-beneficiaries organizations also run specific campaigns. Further research, thus, needs to be done to understand and support these self-help efforts. This study investigated customer attitudes toward products made by people with disabilities – the direct beneficiaries of the generated incomes. By interviewing fifteen female customers in Japan, this study found that the participants had a somewhat positive attitude. They wanted to buy or had bought these kinds of products. The customers’ perceptions of product quality were good. However, their perception of product types and production scale was not. The women’s perceptions and behaviours, or their attitudes, were affected by several personal and environmental factors. A recent factor, the COVID-19 pandemic, seemed to add some situational impacts. Implications for expanding cause-related marketing theory and improving cause-related marketing activities from the beneficiary perspective were discussed based on these findings

THE EFFECT OF SOCIAL PROGRESS ON FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENTS: A DYNAMIC PANEL DATA ANALYSIS FOR AFRICAN COUNTRIES

    Get PDF
A strand in the empirical literature on development economics investigates the dependence of foreign direct investments on recipient countries' economic, institutional and structural characteristics. This paper builds upon this literature by examining the role of a country's social progress as a pull factor for inward foreign investments.  It applies the dynamic panel data methodology to an unbalanced panel dataset from African countries for the 2011-2019 period. The findings suggest that social progress is a significant determinant of foreign direct investments in Africa, supporting a positive social progress-foreign direct investments nexus. For the dimensions of social progress, while access to basic needs and foundations of well-being are important factors, opportunity exhibits superior influence on foreign direct investments. Findings provide evidence for a policy that recognises the social progress in shaping a host country’s attractiveness to foreign investments

WILL BRANDING ENGAGE PERPETUAL BONDING IN HEALTHCARE?

    Get PDF
A brand is the promise of value and is imperative in all aspects of the industry. Retaining existing customers and attracting new customers has always been the challenge faced by service-based industries, which include private healthcare, primarily in hospitals. As a niche sector, private hospitals' tasks address demanding customer expectations. Based on the past reviews of the literature, this study proposes a few aspects to be investigated in the context of private hospitals in Malaysia. Data was collected and distributed using an online survey. The model was validated using Smart PLS (version 3.3.2) software and SPSS for data analysis. The sampling technique used was non-probability. The analysis revealed that brand trust significantly correlates with customer brand engagement which subsequently influences brand equity in private hospitals and is moderated by service quality for critical incidence. These findings give insight to policymakers, the healthcare industry, mainly private hospitals and academic fields to discover the influences to contemplate in this sector and remain competitive strategically
