This study investigates the level of integrated reporting of Malaysian listed companies and explores the potential effects of corporate governance mechanisms on integrated reporting. The annual reports of 150 companies listed on the main market, Bursa Malaysia, for the year ended 2014 were examined to analyze the companies' integrated reporting practices using content analysis. An integrated reporting index was constructed following the key elements of the integrated reporting framework established by the International Integrated Reporting Committee (IIRC). The study considered four corporate governance mechanisms: board composition, board size, board diversity, and ownership structure. The study used Multiple regressions to measure the impact of corporate governance mechanisms on the companies' integrated reporting initiatives. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was used to measure the effect of corporate governance mechanisms on the level of the companies' integrated reporting. The results showed that Malaysian companies' reporting of financial and non-financial information has not yet been integrated. Based on SEM analysis, the results indicated that only one variable, namely, the board size, was associated with the extent of integrated reporting. Board size was the most significant variable that influenced the level of integrated reporting of Malaysian public listed companies in 2014. The study contributes to the integrated reporting literature. It presents empirical evidence that corporate governance mechanisms influence companies' disclosure of integrated reporting information and, thus, providing additional data or information that will be significantly helpful for other researchers. The study will also stimulate the interest of academics in research activities concerning the characteristics of corporate governance mechanisms on integrated reporting activities. The findings are limited to the context of the study. It only looks at corporate governance mechanisms as a critical driver of integrated reporting and uses only the annual report disclosures from a single year

The emergence of inconsistencies in study findings regarding destination brands does not contribute to an increase in customer loyalty toward tourist destinations. Furthermore, exploring the capacity to expand affection for the brand is a meaningful topic within the tourism business phenomenon. Therefore, it is crucial to examine how well the tourism business can reflect the affection for the destination brand. This study aimed to explore and develop the conceptual and empirical relationship between brand authenticity and destination loyalty. To conduct the analysis, a quantitative method was selected, using a sample of 297 respondents in Central Java, Indonesia. The data collected from distributing questionnaires were then processed using SEM-PLS software. Furthermore, the study was grounded in the Service-Dominant Logic perspective and focused on operant resources with the potential to enhance the value of natural destinations by capturing the emotional resonance of the destination brand. The results showed that loyalty goals were empirically and practically increased by creating a context-based model and leveraging the capability of brand love resonance. The approach addressed the gaps in prior studies and provided tourism actors with the means to consider external characteristics

The average Malaysian disposes of 15,000 tonnes of food waste per day, out of which 6,000 tonnes is avoidable waste that could feed the poor. This study aims to address food security issues (SDG 2) in Malaysia by using Bandura’s Triadic Model of Reciprocal Determination to examine food wastage behaviours among urban post-millennials. Food waste, which comprises spoilage, preparation waste, and plate waste, is common in schools; as such, qualitative interviews were conducted with 25 urban primary school students in Klang Valley, Malaysia. The findings revealed the interplay between students' personal factors, physical environment factors, and social environment factors in influencing their food wastage behaviours and perspectives. Additionally, it was observed that behavioural changes towards zero-food waste within the school community require environmental interventions, as urban school-goers lack knowledge of food storage alternatives, while their surrounding environment does not support broader food security concerns. Based on the findings, this study proposed a modified triadic model which incorporates permaculture as a sustainable practice in urban schools in Malaysia. Permaculture can act as an environmental stimulus that cultivates students’ positive personal attitudes and feelings towards reducing food waste. Subsequently, there would be a reduction in food waste behaviour within the students' existing ecosystem. This study promotes the reduction of food waste in urban schools and contributes towards formulating a framework for food security in schools

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) first launched derivative warrants on SET50 index (SET50 DWs) on April 17, 2014. They are currently the most active DWs on the SET. This research uses the GARCH family models augmented with dummy variable to analyze the effect of SET50 DWs on stock market volatility. The sample data consist of daily returns of SET50 index from the period October 30, 2012 to December 30, 2019. The empirical results indicate that the coming into market of SET50 DWs reduces stock market volatility. The GARCH (1,1) TARCH (1,1), and EGARCH (1,1) models are not radically different from each other in their output. However, the asymmetric TARCH (1,1) model is found to provide the best fit in modelling volatility. The SET50 index shows the existence of leverage effect, where negative shocks have a greater impact on the volatility than positive shocks. Introducing SET50 DWs lowers the price volatility of SET50 index so investor having a portfolio investment with a correlation to the performance of SET50 index should adjust hedge ratio appropriately to manage investment risk. There is also a suggestion for policy makers to support the launch of DWs to lower the volatility in underlying spot market resulting in improved efficiency

The surge of online food delivery (OFD) services is emblematic of the restaurant industry's presence in the e-delivery landscape. Further, this research reveals that comprehending consumer decision-making processes necessitates the appraisal of consumer behavior perception. Thus, this study aims to scrutinize the impact of hedonic motivation, convenience motivation, and post-usage usefulness on consumer interest and behavior towards OFD services, moderated by their attitudes towards using such services. To achieve this objective, a purposive sample of 150 students who have used OFD services was gathered and analyzed using a quantitative approach. Empirical data was collected via questionnaires, and a structural equation modeling (SEM-AMOS) was employed to examine the empirical model. The findings of this study suggest that hedonic motivation, convenience motivation, post-usage usefulness, and attitudes towards OFD were key determinants of OFD service behavioral intention. The swift expansion of fast food in Indonesia can be attributed to advancements in telecommunication infrastructure and internet users, lower smartphone prices, as well as the convenience and accessibility of mobile phones and the internet. This phenomenon has been capitalized on by fast food companies, who have leveraged online food delivery (OFD) services to cater to the surging demand

    No full text
Chrysanthemum sp. is a floricultural plant of the Asteraceae family with high economic value. The anthocyanin pigment in red chrysanthemum acts as an antioxidant, the content of which can be influenced by genetic factors such as the physiological age of the flower. This study aimed to determine the effect of flower age on anthocyanin content and antioxidant activity in red chrysanthemum plants. The age of red chrysanthemum used was 115 Days After Planting (DAP) (early bloom stage), 120 DAP (half-bloom stage), 125 DAP (blooming stage), and 134 DAP (wilted flower). The anthocyanin content was analysed using spectrophotometric methods. Antioxidant activity was determined by the DPPH method and then the absorbance was measured using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The results showed that the highest anthocyanin content was obtained at the age of 134 DAP at 3.56 mg/g, followed by the age of 115 DAP at 2.40 mg/g, then at 125 DAP at 1.95 mg/g and the lowest at 120 DAP at 1, 69 mg/g. The highest antioxidant activity was shown in chrysanthemum flowers aged 115 DAP which had an IC50 value of 288.85 g/ml. The research shows that wilted chrysanthemum flowers still contain anthocyanins so it can be used in various industrial fields such as chrysanthemum tea and additives for soap

Analysis of Seven Human Respiratory Coronavirus (CoV) S Proteins from a Bioinformatics Approach: Antigenic epitope, COVID-19, SARS-CoV, S protein

    No full text
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has caused a huge pandemic repercussion across the globe and it is mainly contributed by the human severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). There are seven human respiratory coronaviruses identified to date, namely HCoV-229E, HCoV-NL63, HCoV-OC43, HCoV-HKU1, MERS-CoV, SARS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2. A recently published bioinformatic human CoV comparison only covered four human CoV. Therefore, in this study, a bioinformatics approach-based analyses route was taken to dissect the S proteins of all the available (seven) human respiratory coronaviruses publicly available in the GenBank database. The antigenic epitope amount is postulated to be the most accurate bioindicator among all in determining the severity of a particular human respiratory coronavirus. Other powerful bioinformatic indicators are global similarity index, maximum likelihood phylogenetic analysis as well as domain analysis. The data generated in this study can be channelled to the vaccine and antiviral drug development to combat the current and future spread of the human respiratory coronaviruses
