A Different Geometric Model for Teaching Derivative and Integral Concepts
In this study, a different geometric model that is thought to be used in teaching derivatives and integrals will be introduced. This geometric model is based on the meanings of the words derivative and integral. The geometric models used for teaching consist of plane geometric regular shapes. With this study, whether this geometric model should be used in teaching derivatives and integrals, its deficiencies or incorrects will be opened to discussion by mathematics and mathematics educators.</p
Filistin – İsrail Savaşı: Vergisel ve Ekonomik Yaptırımlar
1917 yılında yayımlanan Balfour Deklarasyonu, İsrail-Filistin sorununun başlangıç noktası olarak kabul edilmektedir. Bir asrı aşkın süredir devam eden bu sorun, tarihte çözüme kavuşturulamamış en uzun süreli mülteci krizi olarak nitelendirilmektedir. İsrail ve Filistin arasında birçok savaş yaşanmıştır. Ancak, 7 Ekim 2023 tarihinde meydana gelen saldırılar, tarihsel bağlamda en ağır insan hakları ihlallerinden biri olarak değerlendirilmektedir. Bu tarihten itibaren, Filistin ve İsrail’den gelen görüntüler küresel çapta milyonlarca insanın tepkisine neden olmuştur. İsrail'in yürüttüğü askerî operasyonlar, uyguladığı kısıtlamalar ve ekonomik yaptırımlar, Filistin ekonomisini derin bir mali krizle karşı karşıya bırakmakta ve ekonomik sürdürülebilirliği tehdit etmektedir. Batılı devletlerin uyguladığı yaptırım politikaları ise Filistin’in mevcut durumunu daha da ağırlaştırmaktadır. Vergisel ve ekonomik yaptırımlar, Filistin devlet yapısını kurumsal ve mali açıdan zayıflatırken, insani krizlere yol açan yaptırımlar (gıda ve su erişiminin kısıtlanması, sağlık hizmetlerinin engellenmesi gibi) Filistin halkı üzerinde yıkıcı etkiler oluşturmaktadır. Temel insani ihtiyaçların kısıtlanması, İsrail tarafından Filistin halkına karşı bir baskı aracı olarak kullanılmaktadır. İsrail’in Filistin’e yönelik uyguladığı bu yaptırımlar, hem Filistin ekonomisinin derin bir mali krize sürüklenmesine hem de Filistin halkının varoluşsal tehditlerle karşı karşıya kalmasına neden olmaktadır. Bu bağlamda, çalışmamızın temel konusu İsrail’in Filistin’e uyguladığı vergisel ve ekonomik yaptırımlar olacaktır. Çalışmada, bu yaptırımlar farklı boyutlarıyla ele alınacak ve insani krize yol açan yaptırımlarla birlikte değerlendirilerek kapsamlı bir analiz sunulacaktır.The Balfour Declaration, issued in 1917, is the starting point of the Israel-Palestine issue. This issue has persisted for over a century and is the most extended unresolved refugee crisis in history. Numerous wars have taken place between Israel and Palestine. However, the attacks on October 7, 2023, are considered one of the most severe human rights violations in the historical context. Since that date, the images from Palestine and Israel have provoked reactions from millions of people worldwide. Israel's military operations, imposed restrictions, and economic sanctions have brought the Palestinian economy to the brink of a deep financial crisis, threatening its economic sustainability. The sanction policies imposed by Western states have further exacerbated Palestine's current situation. Fiscal and economic sanctions have weakened the Palestinian state structure institutionally and financially, while sanctions leading to humanitarian crises (such as the restriction of access to food and water and the obstruction of healthcare services) are having devastating effects on the Palestinian population. Israel is using the restriction of basic humanitarian needs as a tool of pressure against the Palestinian people. These sanctions imposed by Israel on Palestine are causing both the Palestinian economy to plunge into a deep financial crisis and the Palestinian people to face existential threats. In this context, the main focus of this study will be the fiscal and economic sanctions Israel has imposed on Palestine. The study will examine these sanctions from various perspectives and provide a comprehensive analysis, considering the sanctions that have led to a humanitarian crisis
Screening of Chemical Profile by LC–MS/MS and Assessment of Biological Properties of Achillea sintenisii Hub. Mor. From Turkey
The aim of this study was to determine the secondary metabolites of the n-hexane, ethyl acetate, methanol, and water extracts of Achillea sintenisii Hub. Mor. and to ascertain their divergent biological properties. LC–MS/MS analysis was performed to identify the bioactive compounds. The anticancer properties of the samples were tested against human breast (MCF-7 and MDA-MB-453) and colon (HT-29) cancer cell lines by XTT assay. The anti-Alzheimer's studies were performed using Ellman's assay. The antimicrobial studies were carried out by Kirby–Bauer disc diffusion method. The antioxidative potential of the samples was evaluated on the basis of 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl scavenging and ferric reducing antioxidant power assays, LC–MS/MS analysis revealed 27 phytochemicals, including high concentrations of quinic acid, gentisic acid, chlorogenic acid, luteolin, cynaroside, and caffeic acid. Ethyl acetate extract exhibited the most potent cytoxicity against MDA-MB-453 cells, with an IC50 value of 83.05 µg/mL. All extracts showed stronger inhibitory activity against acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase compared to tacrine. The n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and methanol extracts exhibited considerable antimicrobial activity against Enterococcus faecalis, approaching the level of vancomycin. Methanol extract possessed the highest DPPH scavenging and ferric reducing antioxidant power. Distribution of some endocrine cells in the digestive tract of Van fish (Alburnus tarichi Güldenstädt, 1814) during reproductive migration
The Van fish (Alburnus tarichi Güldenstädt, 1814) is an endemic species of the Lake Van basin, belonging to the Cyprinidae family and exhibiting an anadromous life cycle. Although feeding and growth occur in Lake Van, spawning takes place in freshwater streams entering the lake between April and July, influenced by water temperature. These distinct habitats lead to differences in feeding behaviour and nutritional intake. Fish obtain a limited amount of food from the fresh water in which they breed. This study aimed to characterize the distribution of endocrine cells in the digestive tract of Van fish through morphologic, histologic and immunohistochemical analysis, providing insights into the species' digestive physiology. At the end of the oesophagus, there was a stomach-like structure that served as the stomach. In the continuation of this structure, the anterior and posterior intestines were seen. Although taste buds were observed in the mucosa layer of the oesophagus of fish in the lake environment, no taste buds were found in the oesophagus of fish in the freshwater environment. Immunohistochemical analysis identified gastrin (GAS), cholecystokinin (CCK) and somatostatin (SST) cells within the digestive tract. In freshwater fish, GAS and CCK cells did not react in the oesophagus, whereas in lake fish, GAS, CCK and SST were all detected along the tract. The density and localization of these cells differed based on the parts of the digestive tract and the aquatic areas sampled. The distribution of endocrine cells in the digestive tract of Van fish is influenced by feeding conditions, water physicochemical properties and environmental stress, highlighting the adaptive digestive physiology of this endemic species
AI, HUMANS, AND THE SPACE IN BETWEEN: A CORPUS-BASED EXAMINATION OF STANCE, HEDGING, AND LEXICAL BUNDLES IN ELT WRITING
The integration of Large Language Models (LLMs) into academia has formed a "grey zone" ofauthorship between humans and machines. The purpose of this study is to examine this "space inbetween" through a comparison of corpus studies of stance, hedging, and lexical bundles in EnglishLanguage Teaching (ELT) writing. The research is based on a specialized corpus consisting of 90texts, which have been divided into Human Corpus (HC), AI-Generated Corpus (AIC), and AI-LikelyCorpus (ALC) categories, with which the study demonstrates that AI-assisted writing produces anovel ‘synthetic’ register. The research demonstrates that a core difference between the texts is thepresence of authors. In human-authored texts the presence of a self was used to signal a root modality(ability) and a personal recount of a story. In contrast, AI-likely authored texts self-mention authorswithout real stance and instead used the self-mention for structural purposes and thus had a"hallucination of voice." Moreover, hybrid texts signal an "epistemic shift" toward a vague possibilityof improvement and a "listicle effect" which describes a disproportionate use of fixed and rigidenumerative structures with frames of justification. These results point to a concerninghomogenization of student discourse, suggesting that assessment frameworks must be revised toprioritize the functional nuances of organic human authorship over the algorithmic structural rigidityof AI-mediated texts.Keywords: AI writing; AI-likely text, corpus linguistics; hedging; lexical bundles; ELT discourse</p
