Communicating halal crisis in Malaysia: Insights from Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM)
Halal consumption is crucial in Malaysia with the Muslim majority country, and halal crisis communication has become an important area of focus among the Malaysian government, regulators, and businesses. Hence, the adherence of Islamic teachings and ensuring the acquisition of halal goods is a religious obligation for Muslims, and violations can lead to crises that harm reputations and erode consumer trust. However, research on halal crisis communication response strategies has been limited. This study focuses on the crisis communication strategy and management of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia- JAKIM). The study adopted a qualitative research approach namely qualitative content analysis in analysing halal crisis statements from its official portal and Facebook page (Bahagian Hab Halal, JAKIM), along with semi-structured interviews with JAKIM’s crisis management team, the study applies Image Repair Theory. The findings reveal that JAKIM frequently shifts responsibility by emphasising its limited authority, while adopting a proactive approach involving coordination with internal and external stakeholders to address public concerns. Meanwhile, JAKIM has prioritised transparent communication across various platforms to uphold halal integrity. These efforts not only reinforce JAKIM’s role as a trusted guardian of halal but also enhance the organisation’s image and consumer trust through effective crisis communication and enforcement measures. Furthermore, this study advances Image Repair Theory by applying it to halal crises, offering insights into how crisis communication safeguards halal status and enhances organisation efforts amidst challenges in the industry, particularly for regulatory bodies
Factors affecting students' academic integrity in a private higher education institution (PHEI) in Malaysia
The study explores how the academic environment, culture, social factors, and student motivation influence academic integrity violations in a private higher education institution in Malaysia (PHEI). The purpose of the current study is also to investigate the impact of an academic integrity tutorial on improving students’ knowledge and awareness regarding adherence to the academic honour code and policies in PHEI in Malaysia.
The study used a pre- and post- experimental survey design with a survey questionnaire, multiple-choice rating scales, and 10-point quiz tests to evaluate the learning outcomes of an academic integrity tutorial among undergraduate students at a PHEI in Malaysia. Pre-experiment and post-experiment questionnaires were designed and distributed using Microsoft Forms to participants physically in class as well as online through Microsoft Teams.
The participants of the study were randomly divided into two groups: the experimental group and the control group. During the first lecture in week 1, both the experimental group and the control group completed a pre-experiment survey to assess participants’ perceptions of various forms of academic integrity violations and the factors contributing to academic integrity violations in PHEI in Malaysia. Additional classes on academic integrity—covering topics such as understanding university rules regarding academic
integrity violations (e.g., cheating, plagiarism, unauthorised collaboration, electronic cheating, and collusion), fostering positive attitudes and motivation for learning, managing social and cultural expectations, and proper referencing and citations were conducted for the treatment group. After 6 weeks, participants in this study attended a 10-point quiz test. The quiz test aimed to evaluate students' learning outcomes related to the academic honour code and policies for ethical academic behaviour.
The study confirmed a positive correlation between the academic environment, culture, social factors, and academic integrity violations in higher education. It also assessed the moderating effect of academic integrity education. Without the interaction term, the R-squared value for the academic environment, social factors, culture, and motivation was .832, indicating an 83.2% change in academic integrity violations. With the interaction term, the R-squared increased to .836, reflecting a 0.41% increase in variance explained. The results indicate the effectiveness of the tutorial in improving students' perceptions and experiences related to academic integrity. Overall, the quiz test results showed that the experimental group, which received additional instruction, scored higher than the control group, which did not receive any additional lectures.

Knowledge and preventive practice regarding Cardiovascular disease risk factors among undergraduate students at a higher education institution in Kajang, Selangor
Background and Objectives: With the rising burden of premature cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality among the younger population in Malaysia, understanding awareness and management of CVD risk factors is vital for developing effective, targeted intervention strategies to mitigate early atherosclerotic changes. This study was conducted to study the knowledge and preventive practice regarding
cardiovascular disease risk factors among undergraduate students at a higher education institution in Kajang, Selangor.
Methodology: A cross-sectional study was carried out among undergraduate students. Quota sampling method was used to recruit participants who fulfilled the inclusion criteria. The instrument was a validated English version questionnaire. Data collected were entered in SPSS Statistics 27.0 for analysis. Descriptive analysis and Chi-squared test were used. The level of statistical significant was set as p-value<0.05.
Results: A total of 244 undergraduate students participated in this study (50.80% male and 42.90% female) (55.70% science stream and 44.30% non-science stream). Slightly
more than half (58.6%) of undergraduate students have good knowledge but less than half (42.2%) had good preventive practice. There was a significant association between
knowledge and preventive practice regarding CVD risk factors and family history of CVD with knowledge on CVD risk factors.
Conclusion : The study showed that slightly more than half of the undergraduate students had good knowledge regarding CVD risk factors, but worryingly more than half of the undergraduates have inadequate preventive practice regarding CVD risk factors. Knowledge is associated with preventive practice and the presence family history of CVD were linked to better knowledge. Targeted educations are needed to
improve understanding in turn enhance lifestyle behaviour in reducing CVD risks factors as primary prevention of premature CVD given that knowledge can be translated into better practice.

Leveraging deep learning for accurate lung cancer detection
This research falls in the Artificial Intelligence in Medical Imaging applications to Computer-Aided Diagnosis (CAD) category. Lung cancer is one of the leading global causes of death due to cancer, where survival directly depends on early detection and accurate tumour localisation [2]. Conventional pipelines rely heavily on manual interpretation of CT scans, which are time-consuming, subjective, and prone to errors [2]. Modern CAD frameworks also have limitations, with classification-only pipelines lacking localisation, segmentation-first pipelines squandering computation, and parallel pipelines introducing redundancy [15]. To address these problems, this project proposes a classification-first pipeline with EfficientNetB1 for lung cancer classification and conditional Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) segmentation module activated only after cancer detection. The system was developed and deployed via an interactive Streamlit dashboard, which integrates multiple functions like classification, segmentation, lesion measurement, structured reporting (PDF and AIM XML), review by radiologists, and storing cases with SQLite. The workflow included preparation of the dataset from the Kaggle 2D Chest CT Scan dataset, strict preprocessing and augmentation, and comparison-based evaluation of EfficientNetB0 and EfficientNetB1 models with stratified k-fold cross-validation. EfficientNetB1 was employed as the ultimate classifier with accuracy of 94.60% on the test set. The FCM segmentation produced clinically interpretable tumour overlays, and the dashboard successfully integrated error handling, simulation of workflow, and peer review by radiologists. The project concludes with a light, modular, and clinically useful diagnostic system for the assistance of radiologists in the early detection of lung cancer. The future holds quantitative assessment of segmentation and scaling to PACS integration for clinical deployment
