Languages play different roles in every bilingual/multilingual and bilingual/multicultural society. The pluralistic attribute of languages has resulted to the society differing tremendously in linguistic and cultural roles. In every bilingual/ multicultural environment, the roles and usefulness of each language are evident. The South Eastern part of Nigeria is a bilingual/bicultural society. The fact remains that Igbo and English languages are the two linguistic natures in this bilingual part of Nigeria. It is very clear that each of these two languages play different roles in building a corporate image for sustainable development, peace and security in the Eastern part and Nigeria at large. Their roles are x-rayed with the aim of exposing the usefulness of each language in the environment. The central idea is that language and culture cannot be separated. In the same vein, language, peace and security are intermingled. Therefore, the knowledge of language helps in building a corporate image that sustains development. This paper is aware that there are problems as well as prospects face by the two languages especially in the area of culture, education and social life. In every bilingual society, the languages perform different roles and functions

    Get PDF
The purpose of this experimental research study was to investigate the modulus of elasticity (E) of beta-phase (β) Titanium Copper alloy (TiCu) specimens for intrauterine contraceptive applications. In this study, we design and produced Beta (β) phase TiCu alloy specimens with varying copper percentages, Ti0.5%Cu, Ti1.0%Cu, Ti2.0%Cu, Ti5.0%Cu, Ti10.0.0%Cu, Ti15.0%Cu, and Ti17.0% Cu, using copper as the experimental control reference biomaterial. The samples were produced using the powder metallurgy technique in an inert environment. Experimental investigations and Minitab Software Design analyses were conducted to examine the combined load variation with strain rate conditions on the specimens. Furthermore, the study examined the correlation between stress and strain rates in the endometrium. The elastic modulus of the Titanium Copper alloy confirmed optimal stress-to-strain values, which are crucial in the design of biomaterials for surgical implants under load conditions. The strain developed in the alloy determined its deformation under different forces and fatigue conditions, considering the periodic loads on the implant material. The results indicated that the Ti17%Cu alloy specimen exhibited an excellent modulus of elasticity value. The research establishes the strength criteria, particularly the acceptable modulus of elasticity (E), and suggests that the Ti17%Cu alloy could be a viable replacement for the existing prototype biomaterial (Cu-T380 IUD) based on its optimal modulus of elasticity. These strength properties are essential for ensuring the reliability and durability of intrauterine biomaterials in the cervix. We reported that this development holds significant promise in enhancing the mechanical performance and compatibility of intrauterine devices, thereby contributing to advancements in women\u27s healthcare

Political Exclusion and the Resurgence of Ethnic Nationalism in Nigeria: A Study Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)

    Get PDF
The widened democratic space with the inception of new democratic dispensation gave rise to renewed secessionist agitations as a result of perceived socio – political and economic repressions. Thus, ethnic nationalism resurgence was manifested in the renewed demand for Biafra by the secessionist organizations especially the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The paper examined Political Exclusion and the Resurgence of Ethnic Nationalism in Nigeria: A Study Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The theory of political instrumentalism advanced by the American philosopher John Dewey in 1949 formed the theoretical basis for this study. The study adopted survey research design. Data were derived from primary and secondary sources. The population of the study constituted the member of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the old Eastern region comprising of the current South East and South South geopolitical zones. Convenience sampling technique was used to select a sample of 400 respondents for the study. The data generated were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson Chi-square. The study found that that political exclusion of an ethnic group in the main stream politics leads to ethnic nationalism. This political exclusion provides a basis for the persistence of Igbo grievances and animosities. The study therefore contends that the resurgence of ethnic nationalism is caused by the people’s perception of political inequities and injustice in the distribution of power and resources in Nigeria. The study recommends that an all, inclusive political system is the key solution. Nigeria should create an inclusive political system where ethnic and religious affiliation will no longer be a defining factor in political participation
