Technology-Driven OHSM Frameworks for Sustainable Engineering

This research explores the integration of emerging technologies—Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Building Information Modeling, wearables, and blockchain—into Occupational Health and Safety Management (OHSM) to foster sustainable engineering practices in construction and manufacturing. Through a mixed-methods synthesis of recent studies, the research reveals that these technologies enable proactive safety management, reducing workplace incidents by 10–20% via real-time monitoring and predictive analytics, while enhancing sustainability by cutting construction waste by 10%. Despite these advances, high costs, technical expertise gaps, data privacy concerns, and regional disparities hinder adoption, particularly for small enterprises and developing nations. The study’s novelty lies in its interdisciplinary approach, bridging OHSM, technology, and sustainability to propose scalable frameworks that address these barriers. It fills critical research gaps, including the lack of theoretical models and longitudinal data, by offering context-specific strategies and stakeholder collaboration models. Results underscore the transformative potential of technology-driven OHSM, providing actionable insights for practitioners and policymakers to institutionalize safer, sustainable workplaces globally

This study examined the influence of teacher professional development on curriculum fidelity in the implementation of Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) skills in basic education in Enugu State, Nigeria. Specifically, the study sought to determine the extent to which basic education teachers participate in professional development programmes focused on 4IR skills, ascertain the level of curriculum fidelity among teachers in implementing 4IR-related curriculum content, and examine the influence of teacher professional development on curriculum fidelity in the implementation of 4IR skills. The study was anchored on the Constructivist Learning Theory propounded by Jean Piaget (1952), which emphasizes learner-centered instruction, active knowledge construction, and the critical role of teacher competence in facilitating meaningful learning experiences, all of which align with the pedagogical demands of 4IR skills. The population of the study comprised 6,250 teachers in public basic education schools in Enugu State. A sample size of 375 teachers was selected using a stratified random sampling technique to ensure proportional representation across the education zones in the state. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire titled Teacher Professional Development and Curriculum Fidelity Questionnaire, which was validated by experts and tested for reliability using the Cronbach Alpha method. Three research questions guided the study, and three null hypotheses were tested at the 0.05 level of significance. The hypotheses were tested using the Chi-square statistical method. Findings revealed that teachers in Enugu State participate moderately to highly in professional development programmes focused on 4IR skills. The results also showed that curriculum fidelity among basic education teachers is generally moderate to high. Furthermore, the study established a significant influence of teacher professional development on curriculum fidelity in the implementation of 4IR skills, indicating that teachers with higher levels of professional development demonstrated greater adherence to curriculum objectives and instructional practices. Based on the findings, the study recommended that educational authorities prioritize continuous, structured, and competency-based professional development programmes aligned with 4IR curriculum goals, provide adequate instructional resources and technological infrastructure, and strengthen monitoring mechanisms to enhance curriculum fidelity in basic education. &nbsp

Deploying Music Therapy for Mental Health Wellness and Academic Success among University Students in Delta State. Music therapy offers a powerful tool for Nigerian university students to enhance mental health and academic performance; by reducing stress and anxiety, improving mood and boosting focus, helping students navigating academic pressure. The study is a descriptive survey using ex-post facto design. The population comprises all university students in Delta State. Purposive sampling technique was used to select sample of 1,000 students from the study area. A self-developed questionnaire titled “Music Therapy for Mental Health Wellness and Academic Success Questionnaire – MTMHWASQ)” was used to gather information from participants. To establish reliability, the instrument underwent a test-re-test in a pilot study, yielding a coefficient index of 0.85 and above. Responses were measured using a four-point Likert scale: Strongly Agree (SA), Agree (A), Disagree (D), and Strongly Disagree (SD). The researchers personally distributed 1,000 questionnaires to the selected participants. Simple percentage, Mean score, Standard deviation and t-test were used to analysed data at 0.05 level of significance. Benchmark of 2.50 was established to accept any item with a mean rating of 2.50 or above as agreed while any item with a mean rating less than 2.50 was regarded as disagreed for research questions. Although Music could be distractive, the study highlights ignorance and importance of music therapy’s positive impact on both mental health wellness and academic success among Nigerian university students. Thus, reducing stress, anxiety and improving focus. Music therapy emerges a valuable support tool to help students navigate their rigorous academic activities and self-sustenance. Therefore, educational stakeholders should consider integrating music therapy into counselling services and academic support programs. Training of staff in music therapy techniques, offering regular sessions and promoting music-based stress management workshops

This study took a look at the challenges of survival confronting the mainstream media in Nigeria with the arrival and massive spread of citizen journalism in the country. It discovered that the mainstream media have come to accept citizen journalism as the new face of modern journalism, and that it has unleashed tremendous challenges on mainstream media practice and the entire communication ecosystem in Nigeria. In carrying out the study, the survey research design with the questionnaire as its instrument of data collection, was utilized. The population of the study was two hundred and forty (240), and the researcher arrived at a sample size of one hundred and fifty (150) using the Taro Yamane sample size determination formula.  The study relied on two theories: the Technological Determinism and the Democratic Participant Media Theories. Some of the findings are that citizen journalism has come to pose significant challenges in the modus operandi and execution of professional journalism practice in the country; that its revolutionary impact has compelled the mainstream media to innovate and come up with mutually beneficial strategies for both genres of journalism to thrive together ; that many citizen journalists in Nigeria lack the requisite and relevant knowledge and skills in information sourcing, gathering, gate-keeping and dissemination; and that mainstream journalists feel concerned and apprehensive of the deleterious effects of the negative aspects of citizen journalism like fake news. It concludes that citizen journalism comes with a lot of positive aspects as demonstrated in its faster breaking and delivery of news, supplementing the job of the professionals and keeping them on their toes, hence helping to make their work better. The recommendations, based on the findings of the study, are that  governments and communication experts should create and float enlightenment and training  programmes for the citizen journalists in the country to endue them with the professional skills they sorely require ; that governments create and enforce laws against fake news and unverified reports and that the mainstream media continue to partner with citizen journalists to promote mutually beneficial, robust and  synergistic relationship conducive for the growth, development and continued modernization of  journalism practice in Nigeria
