The propagation of Islam in Ebiraland is both by some individuals and religious organisations. The two major promoter of Islam among others in the land are the Muslims’ Mujatama’ and FOMWAN. The objective of this paper is to examine the efforts the propagators, the challenges and how they were surmounted. History and survey methods were adopted in order to gather real and authentic information for the study. One of the major findings of the study is Islamic brotherhood and the determination of this group to stop the people from embracing and propagating the deep-rooted culture (Eku) and also enlighten the Muslim women their duties as mothers as well as their roles as Allah mention both men and women in the Qur’an as believers in the struggle

Methanolic leaf extract of Pericopsis laxiflora (benth. ex baker) meeuwen protects against cadmium-induced testicotoxicity in male sprague-dawley rats via antioxidant capabilities

Pericopsis laxiflora (Benth) Meeuwen is used in African folk medicine to mitigate numerous infections. This study evaluated the antioxidant, phytochemical and antimicrobial activities and protective potential of P. laxiflora methanol leaf extract against cadmium-induced testicotoxicity in male Sprague–Dawley rats. The methanol extract of P. laxiflora leaves (MLPL) obtained by cold maceration contained several phytochemicals, but no cardiac glycosides or terpenoids were found. It showed remarkable dose-dependent in vitro antioxidative activity. The extract had similar antibacterial effects as ciprofloxacin against Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. However, it was more effective against S. pneumoniae than the other bacterial strains. Similarly, it exhibited antifungal activities comparable to Griseofulvin against Candida albicans and Aspergillus spp. The extract corrected the damage occasioned by intoxication with CdCl2. It elevated testicular malonaldehyde like Quercetin. The increased NO and myeloperoxidase (MPO) activities induced by treating Sprague–Dawley rats with CdCl2 were significantly reduced by the MLPL extract. The extract also attenuated the production of β-catenin and B-cell lymphoma 2 (BCL-2) protein in the testiculocytes of the rats and restored severe perivascular inflammation in liver cells. Through several mechanisms, MLPL showed protective effects against testis injury induced by cadmium chloride in Sprague–Dawley rats

Measurements of soil resistivity and moisture content in four selected locations within Iwo town for grounding installation

In Nigeria, Grounding Systems Installation (GSI) were carried out without prior knowledge of Soil Apparent Resistivity (SAR) and Soil Moisture Content (SMC) of a location, which strongly influence its effective functioning when fault current builds up in the electrical circuit. Therefore, these two factors were measured in four locations: P(Latitude: 7°37`46.074 and Longitude: 4°12`2.250), Q(Latitude: 7°37`14.886 and Longitude: 4°11`10.608), R(Latitude: 7°37`26.964 and Longitude: 4°11`6.552) and S(Latitude: 7°39`18.312 and Longitude: 4°10`57.552) in Iwo town, Osun State, Southwest, Nigeria. To measure SAR values of each location, five different Vertical Electrical Soundings (VES) were conducted randomly using a Schlumberger arrangement. IPWin2 computer software was used to analyse the data. Soil Samples (SS) of each VES station were taken and analysed at the Civil Engineering Laboratory. VES results showed that P, Q, R and S had different lithologies, SAR, depths, and Lowest Soil Apparent Resistivity Values (LSARV) ranging from 1.47-51.98Ωm. 40.40-73.60Ωm, 27.00-67.40Ωm, and 18.40-88.00Ωm while their respective depths were 2.06-26.40m, 7.13-11.8m, 9.65-11.60m, and 6.23-8.20m. LSARV of each location were attributed to the presence of conductive and moisture-rich minerals, which made the fault current cause the breaker/fuse to cut off, thereby safeguarding electrical appliances, animals, and humans. SS results indicated that P, Q, R, and S, on average, had 33.38%, 38.40%, 27.06%, and 29.68% SMC, respectively, which agrees with VES results. R2 values of SAR and SMC indicated ranges from 0.2357 to 0.7064. Thus, correlations between SAR and SMC values were established. This research has revealed ranges of SAR, depth and SMC that electrical engineers need for GSI

Physician and Patients Relationship in Contemporary Times (Orthodox and Non-Orthodox):  Highlighting the Consequential Outcomes

Understanding the dynamics and outcomes of physician and patient’s relationship require a comprehensive review and synthesis of existing literature on the doctor-patient, nurse-patient, and pharmacist-patient relationships, including non-orthodox practices. This engagement analysed various interaction models and outcomes, referencing key studies and theoretical perspectives such as Talcott Parsons\u27 functionalist view and Thomas, Szasz, and Hollender\u27s therapeutic relationship situations. The main findings highlight that effective healthcare outcomes rely on the quality of relationships between patients and various healthcare providers. Socio-cultural compatibility, clear communication, and mutual trust significantly enhance these relationships, leading to better patient adherence, satisfaction, and overall health outcomes, particularly in diverse and socio-economically varied contexts like Nigeria. Therefore, the decision to use a health care facility when ill depends on a number of factors, including the perceived friendliness of the physician\u27s demeanour, the efficiency and effectiveness of the services being provided, and how well-suited the therapeutic intervention is to the social status of users/health consumers government policies as important, necessary and inevitable even when such policies bring hardship on the masses

This study examines the influence of social media on political participation among Osun State residents during the 2025 local government elections in the state. The study is guided by three specific research objectives, three research questions, and a hypothesis. Anchored on the underpinnings of the Uses and Gratifications Theory (UGT), the study adopted a quantitative survey research design with 384 registered voters in Osogbo LGA, Iwo LGA, and Ife Central LGA selected through purposive and stratified sampling techniques as the sample size for the study, while questionnaires were deployed as the instruments of data gathering. Findings revealed that respondents actively used and followed political conversations, shared content, and relied heavily on platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Twitter/X for updates during the 2025 local government elections in the state. It was also revealed that respondents moderately engaged in political activities on social media during the elections, but there was no strong agreement across all items measured in the study. The study concluded that social media enhanced political awareness, encouraged youth involvement, and allowed for real-time interaction between political actors and the electorate, while it was recommended that political stakeholders and electoral bodies intensify their use of social media as a legitimate space for civic education, voter mobilization, and real-time engagement, particularly targeting younger demographics who are most active online.

This study acknowledged the fact that for building a country of our dream, a national dialogue that seeks to reach agreement on key issues facing Nigeria should as a matter of necessity be convened whereat issues on national identity, the role of religion in government, political rights, basic freedoms, institutional reform, election procedures, and the structure of government.

TRANS-BOUNDARY MOVEMENT OF HAZARDOUS WASTE IN AFRICA: INTERROGATING THE BASEL AND BAMAKO CONVENTION

The article critically examined trans-boundary movement of hazardous waste in Africa: interrogating the Basel and Bamako Conventions and posit that trans-boundary movement and disposal of hazardous waste is a global phenomenon which poses serious threat to both man and the environment including all the competing elements in the ecosystem. Hazardous waste is toxic in nature with the capacity to alter ecological balance to the detriment of man. The article examines the concept of hazardous waste, the incidence of hazardous waste in sub-Saharan African countries, international instruments regulating trans-boundary movement of hazardous wastes and opine that the environmental damage occasioned by hazardous waste could be permanent and irreversible. It is truism that most of the sub-Saharan African Countries, like Nigeria had ratified several international treaties and conventions aimed at challenging extra-territorial disposal of hazardous waste material. Against this background, this article seeks to critically appraise the Basel and the Bamako convention on the ban of the import into Africa and the control of trans-boundary movement and management of hazardous wastes within Africa. This is with a view to proffering suggestion for reform and recommendation on the challenges and constraint of the enforcement of the infraction of territorial legislation and convention in tackling the menace of hazardous waste in Africa

THE VEXED ISSUE OF DOWRY AS A BASIS FOR THE VALIDITY OF CUSTOMARY MARRIAGE IN SOUTH-WESTERN NIGERIA – OLAWAYE V. OLAWAYE IN CONTEXT

Customary marriage is rife in Africa generally, and Nigeria in particular. The essentials of this form of marriage are ethnographically relative in that more emphasis is placed on one or more of the essentials. Dowry, or more appropriately bride price, for instance, is considered a sine qua non in a discussion of what essentially the features of customary marriage are. In some communities in Africa, the words “bride price” is preferably used. The fact that these two concepts – “dowry” and “bride price” - do not mean exactly the same thing is problematic. Again, that a long customary cohabitation between a man and a woman which leads to the birth of children can ripen to customary marriage under African customary law is also a debatable one. In other words, can there be a customary marriage by prescription? This term paper will, therefore, de-emphasise dowry as a customary marriage essential that forms the basis of validity of a customary marriage. The paper will also explain the dichotomy between the expressions “dowry” and “bride price” with a view to justifying sticking to either of them. The paper will draw on the recent court decision of an Ibadan Grade ‘A’ Customary Court sitting at Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State. The paper will further rely on relevant provisions of statutes and decided cases. The paper finds that the words or expressions “dowry” and “bride price” are not generally synonymous unless contextually made so. Again, the paper finds that dowry or bride price is not  the most important requirement in customary marriage as consent is the basis on which dowry or bride price is built. The paper recommends that prefatory remarks or annotations must contextually precede the use of either of the words or expressions “dowry” and “bride price” in order to avoid textual ambiguity in their usages. The paper further recommends that where consent exists between a man and a woman who are cohabiting and who have been living together for a long time or who have given birth to children, the law should prescriptively ascribe the status of a husband and a wife to both of them under customary law, and in case of divorce proceedings, the law should not make the existence of dowry or bride price as a condition precedent to the validity of the “customary marriage
