ICTs Use and Library Information Resources in Enhancing a Sustainable Educational Development: A Case Study of University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria
Get PDFEducation is an asset that an individual must possess and acquire because it is an instrument par excellence for national development. The use of Information and Communication Technology has advanced the education sector in Nigeria mostly in tertiary institutions as a result of information provision. This study therefore investigates ICTs use and library information resources in enhancing a sustainable educational development in the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Survey research method was adopted for the study; undergraduate students of University of Ibadan were selected for this study. Data collected were analyzed using frequency count, analysis of variance (ANOVA), regression and correlation statistical tool to test for the relative contribution and the significant relationship between ICTs use, library information resources to the prediction of sustainable educational development tested at 5% level of significance. The results revealed that Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has contributed to the development of education in the study area with Computer (Laptop) 341(97.7%) which ranked highest. The findings also revealed that the use of library information resources by the undergraduates was very highly utilized with textbook 219 (62.8%) which ranked highest. The findings reveal that reading for examination 349(100.0%) was the major purpose of using information resources by the undergraduate. It also revealed limited number of computers 314(90.0%) as one of the major constraints of information resources utilisation in the university. The study revealed that there was a significant combined effect of the independent variables on the dependent variable, (F (2,346) =7.724, P<0.05). It also revealed that information resources use (Beta = .203, t=3.860, p<0.05) and ICT use (Beta =.149, t=1.515, p>0.05) are potent predictor factors of educational development. It further revealed that information resources use (r =.201**, p<0.05) and ICT use(r =-.147**, p<0.05) positively correlated to the prediction of educational development of students. The study recommended that government should make computer and internet facilities available at all levels of our educational system as this is expected to improve the academicperformance of students in our higher institutions.

Media Framing of MohBad\u27s Death and Posthumous Stardom
No full textIlerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as MohBad, was relatively unpopular during his lifetime. The news of his tragic death on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, was widely covered by the Nigerian media. News stories interviews with friends and family and retrospectives created a buzz of enduring grief and nostalgia. After his demise, MohBad\u27s fame and popularity soared more than when he lived. Using different framing choices, the media successfully turned the tragedy into a national and even international issue. While some media outlets chose tosensationalize the issue, some indulged in speculation, rumours, or invasive details. Thoughts, memories, images, and videos of the deceased singer reintroducing his life and struggles frequented the media. Long after his passing, there is still no consensus reached about the cause of his death but diverse public opinions and views. Therefore, this study investigated how MohBad\u27s death and posthumous celebrity status were framed by the media. The study adopted content analysis of the research method. 115 newspaper stories (mostly digital) and 115 YouTube videos from September 12th to October 25th, 2023 were analyzed. Findings revealed that 67 newspaper stories representing (58.3%) used suspicious killing frames while YouTube videos had 60 representing (52.2%). There was no statistically significant difference between the media frames used in the YouTube videos and the newspapers. The media should be encouraged to deeply investigate topics of interest as there was a huge gap of information in the reportage of MohBad\u27s death
The Impact of Technology in Developing Primary School Pupils in Kwara State
Get PDFThis study assessed preschool children use of technological device and its impact on their development and Survey research design was adopted for this study. The population for the study comprised of thirty (30) primary schools within the study area. Simple random sampling technique was used to select 10 primary schools in Kwara central and 200 pupils were selected from the schools selected. Three research questions were raised and three hypotheses were generated. The instruments used for data collection was a self-design questionnaire on which validity and reliability was carried out before final administration, the reliability coefficient is 0.73. Frequency distribution, percentages, mean, standard deviation, independent t-test and ANOVA were used to analyze the data obtained from the respondents. The findings showed that Teachers have favourable perception towards the impact of ICT devises on the child development in the areas of (physical, mental, emotional and social development),(X=2.89>2.5).there is no significant difference in the teachers perception on the impact of technological devise on pupils‘ development (physical, mental, emotional and social development) based on gender(p.value 0.192>0.05). There is significant difference in the teachers perception on the impact of technological devise on pupils‘ development (physical, mental, emotional and social development) based on teachers years of experience and qualifications (p.value 0.045&0.20<0.05) respectively. It was however recommended that supply of technological devise should be in right quality and quantity for the pupils in order to enhance their academic development. Government should provide grants for primary schools for the purchase of desktop computer and mini-laptops. Teachers should also be encouraged to go for professional development programmes in order to update their knowledge

The Need for Counselling Psychologists in National Development

The past decade has thrown up challenges, specifically on the economic meltdown that is affecting all sectors. Crisis in the Niger Delta - the oil producing areas - over the sharing formula on accrued income from oil production that does not benefit the oil producing states, political and religious crises, for instance, the Boko-Haram insurgence in the northern states and corrupt leadership in all sectors in Nigeria. Currently, our youth‘s future is at risk due to mass unemployment that has been an issue on the national security and development. These have resulted in a chain of problems towards social and moral values decadence in the country. In order to reduce all the aforementioned problems, that have been hampering national security and development, the need for counselling psychologists‘ intervention is required. Counselling psychologists should be ready to face challenges in building the nation. Private organisations should not be left out from counselling programme. All aspiring leaders and those leaders in power need periodic counselling intervention towards achieving the set goals for national security and development
Oath as a Strategy for National Security: An Appraisal of The Nigerian Political Oaths of Administration

Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) and the Speech Act theory,were synthesized to consider how committing or limiting the vocabularies employed in formulating the texts of Nigerian oaths of offices are.Two oath texts – Oath of office of president and governor were purposively sampled for critical examination. Findings revealed that self-assertive expressions such as‘ will be faithful?, ?will discharge my duties?, ?will abide by?, deployed to demonstrate willingness and obligation are harped upon in the texts to the neglect of options that are germane to enforcing the translation of those promises into concrete actions. The paper opined that it should be included in the oaths taken that oath defaulters be prosecuted or impeached to serve as punitive measures

Towards an All-Inclusive Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration in North-East Nigeria
Get PDFDespite the logistical challenges of disarmament, demobilization and reintegration (DDR) the acquisition of civilian status and sustainable employment and income is considered the most difficult phase of any DDR process. . This has generated resentment among many Nigerians. In pursuit of its agenda, Boko Haram has engaged in mass killings, mass kidnapping and went as far as establishing a form of rebel governance in parts of territories where it operates. The group may have used forced conscriptions to recruit members. Offering amnesty and applying a DDR will demonstrate the government‘s commitment to finding a democratic solution to the insurgency. It demonstrates to the Nigerian members of the fighting group and local communities that the government may be willing to provide a more conciliatory solution to the conflicts. DDR needs to be dynamic, innovative and pragmatic to remain valuable in the contemporary times. The Human Needs Model and Theories of conflict transformation were adopted as theoretical framework. Data were collected essentially from secondary sources and qualitatively analysed. This study attempts to find pragmatic solutions to the inherent difficulties of disarmament, demobilization and reintegration in Nigeria, particularly in the ongoing Northeast insurgency and provide workable recommendations.
