A paper on the role of research in the realization of the sustainable development goals, this paper explores various opinions of authors and researchers towards the concept of research and sustainable development. Sustainability is mostly perceived as the combination of environmental, social, and economic performance. Though, there is difficulty in defining sustainable development. Today, the needs of many people are not met, and at the same time the hope of future generation to meet their needs is being compromised. It is as a result of thisthat, sustainable development goals has raised as a concept affected by the need to offer people a kind of development which can meet the needs of the present without compromising the capacity of future generation to meet theirs. Economic development may result in an improvement in the standard of living related to a small proportion of the population while the majority of the population remains poor. The concept of sustainable development has become a widely recognized goal for human society in the 21st century. This paper therefore focuses on the concept of research, sustainable development, the role of research in the realization of sustainable development goals, challenges to the realization of SDGS, suggestion and way-forward

The gains associated with the integration of mobile information and communication technology (MICT) for learning has led stakeholders, few school proprietors to avail their schools with digital devices. However, MICT deployment does not necessarily interpret to student’s technology utilisation for learning purposes. This current study presumed that the use of MICT for learning purpose is subjective to the perception of the students, since perception drives the actual use of technology. Thus, the purpose of this study is to investigate the perception and utilization of MICT for learning in secondary schools in Ekiti State. A quantitative research approach of a survey type was employed, while adopting a multistage sampling technique to select 100 secondary school students in Ekiti State, Nigeria. This study employed a validated researcher-designed questionnaire with a reliability value of 0.73. Data collected were analysed using mean, rank ordering and t-test. The study revealed that secondary school students perceived MICT useful and easy to use; they use MICT for learning; and irrespective of their gender, they have similar perception to the use of MICT for learning. The study concluded that integrating MICT into senior secondary school curriculum is imperative, and students need to bemotivated to use MICT for learning purpose. It is therefore recommended that stakeholders should provide policies that will encourage the full integration of MICT for learning in secondary schools, as this will interpret to greater academic achievement and equally ease the achievement of Nigeria national educational goals.&nbsp

Dynamic Analysis of Agriculture Productivity via Public Agricultural Spending and Bank Credit: Lessons from an Emerging Market: .

    No full text
The low level of government spending on agriculture has resulted in poor productivity of the sector in the developing countries. To ensure a high level of productivity in the agriculture sector in emerging markets like Nigeria, public agricultural expenditures, as well as the provision of bank credit to the agriculture sector, are key to agriculture productivity. Consequently, this study examines the dynamic links between government agricultural spending, bank credit and agriculture productivity in Nigeria within the period of 1981-2019. We also incorporated government capital expenditure as one of the regressors determining agricultural productivity. Using the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model, the results suggest that there exists a long-run relationship between government agricultural spending, bank credit and agriculture productivity in Nigeria. The findings show that government agricultural expenditures and commercial bank credit to agriculture sector have a direct and significant impact on agriculture productivity in Nigeria. Meanwhile, government capital expenditure influences agricultural productivity positively in the short-run, whereas, in the long-run, it hurts agricultural productivity. Thus, there is a need to ensure that public expenditure is put into productive use to ensure that these funds support private capital formation in the agriculture sector. This will invariably enhance long-run agriculture productivity in Nigeria.&nbsp

Dealing with students with severe challenges is a more daunting task for teachers. There are significantly higher rates of students with disabilities in developing countries such as South Africa. The South African government is trying immensely to improve how teachers are empowered to assist them in their work of dealing with these students. These strategies are adapted to fit into the needs of students depending on the type of challenges they have. The risks are thought to be particularly high during COVID-19 lockdown where normal face-to-face classes are replaced with online teaching. When the President announced the national lockdown, students and teachers had to adapt to the new strategy of conducting teaching and learning using online strategies. With students with challenges such as Autism Spectrum and Speech-Language barriers is a big challenge as they need specialized assistive devices to access learning content. Most students come from socially disadvantaged homes where they cannot access Information and Communication Technology (ICT) facilities. This paper aims to investigate how teachers can be empowered with strategies that can be used during COVID-19 and beyond for students with Autism and those with speech and language barriers. The literature explored here does not only illustrate what numerous authors say about teacher empowerment strategies, but it also illustrates how some of these strategies can be useful for both teachers and students. The discussion is to assist in delivering the best strategies that are accessible by both teachers and students in teaching and learning during the COVID-19 lockdown period and beyond

This paper examines the concept of team management in the leadership and management of tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The idea of team management is rooted in theories that emphasize participation, especially school-based management, teamwork, and distributed leadership. With the full democratization of Nigeria’s political landscape in 1999, team management became formalized in institutions of higher learning. Decentralization of the decision-making process was embraced. Team management becomes the practice and this was aligned to the purpose or objectives of higher education. These purposes or goals provide the crucial sense of direction that underpins the leadership style of educational institutions. The study is explorative and informative in orientation. In conclusion, the benefits of team management out way the threats and tensions that arise therefrom. This submission implies that further research can be conducted qualitatively using data gathering exploratory techniques

Undergraduates who engage in pre-marital sex inside and outside the school campuses are on the increase every day. This study investigates assessment of pre-marital sex, and causes among undergraduates of the University of Ilorin. The purpose of the study was to assess whether peer group influence, mass media or poverty causes premarital sex among undergraduates in the University of Ilorin. The descriptive research design of survey type was used for the study. The population of the study comprised of all undergraduates resident in school halls within the University of Ilorin. A multi-stage sampling technique which comprises of simple, proportionate and convenience sampling procedures were used to select two hundred and thirty (230) respondents out of seven hundred and ten undergraduates resident in the hostels as participants in the study. Researchers structured questionnaire was used. The reliability of the instrument established through test-retest method. The coefficient obtained was r = 0.83. Inferential statistics of chi-square was used to test the hypotheses developed for the study at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study indicated that peer group influence, mass media and poverty are major causes for pre-marital sex (92.83 > 21.03, 90.57 > 21.03 and 88.14 >21.03). The researchers concluded that peer group influence, mass media and poverty are major factors responsible for premarital sex among undergraduates in the University of Ilorin. The researchers recommend that the government should improve the economic condition of Nigerian citizens by provision of sufficient funds for education/facilities in all Nigerian secondary and tertiary institutions to reduce the financial problem faced by students in schools due to low financial support from their parents

The Effectiveness of Agricultural Sector in Reducing Unemployment in Nigeria: .

    No full text
This study examined the effectiveness of agricultural sector output in reducing unemployment in Nigeria using time series data from 1980-2018. Agricultural sector output was disaggregated to crop, fishery, forestry and livestock to examine the sector that contributes more to employment generation in Nigeria. The study analysed data using vector error correction granger causality/block exogeneity Wald tests to understand the direction of causality among variables. Although, trend analysis shows that crop subsector contributes more to output, causality could not be established for each of the subsectors. The study recommends policy measures that would make agriculture more attractive to the teaming youthful population, facilitate domestic consumption of agricultural produce rather than exporting raw products and importing finished goods. &nbsp
