Conflict Resolution Strate Conflict Resolutiongies and Sustainable Peace through Dramatic Acts in “Abejoye” Film by Mike Bamiloye
Get PDFA peaceful society creates opportunities for both old and young, but conflicts do occur which require appropriate approaches towards peaceful coexistence. Aside conventional interventions approaches; film writers and producers have embarked on film projects that convey spiritual messages which promote conflict resolution which is in tandem with UN Sustainable Development Goal-16; that promote peaceful and inclusive societies. Therefore, this study examines conflict resolution strategies and sustainable peace through the dramatic acts in “Abejoye” film series. The study adopted content analysis and purposively selected; “The Peacemaker”. Data was gathered through film preview of the episodes on YouTube Channel using a researcher-designed “Video Content Analysis Coding Sheet”. Data was analysed using non-frequency counts and contingencies of themes relating to conflicts and its resolution approaches. Findings revealed the themes in the film as concept of faith, conflict resolution, sustainable peace, redemption and God\u27s power in fighting spiritual battles. Causesof conflicts in “Abejoye” film include; marital infidelity, hypocritical lifestyle, chieftaincy/power tussles and religious predispositions, while strategies for its resolution include mediation approach and persuasive skill. The study concludes that the film is a combination of elements of drama, action, and spirituality that engage viewers to deliver its message of hope, conflict resolution and sustainable peace. Hence, the study recommends mediation approaches and effective use of persuasive skill as veritable tools for conflict resolution in the promotion of sustainable peace globally. Also, the Mount Zion Christian Film Ministries should replicate the film concept in other major Nigerian indigenous languages for diffusion and wider reach. 
Impact of Press Freedom In 21st Century Changing Global Democracy: Study of Vanguard Media Limited
Get PDFThe study examine the impact of press freedom in this rapidly changing global democracy in Vanguard Media Limited, Kirikiri, Apapa ,Lagos .The specific objective of this study is to establish the effect of press freedom in this changing global democracy. The study used primary data and purposive sampling was used to select the respondents with 100 population and 70 questionnaire were returned. Qualitative data was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics analysis of STATAin line with the objectives. The study findings in the objectives mean results revealed that 4.15 ,4.02 and 4.19 respectively were followed that ,press freedom fulfilled the essential role free and open societies ,press freedom provides information to individual to make their own decisions and free press duly inform voters and strengthened democracy and this data shows that all objectives were accepted at 2.5 level of acceptance and the study recommends that ,media practitioners and journalists should adopt the use of new digital media and be equipped with media and information literacy skills ,more protections should be given journalists while practising ,governments should create an enabling and conducive environment for press freedom to thrive globally, ministries of information and communication should regulate information on the digital media to guide against fake news ,Collaborations and partnership by all press organizations and practitioners through conferences organized by international press institute and UNESCO should help in creating a transparent platforms for press freedom to thrive
Assessing the Effectiveness of Environmental Planning in Promoting Sustainable Urban Landscape A Case Study of Abeokuta, Ogun State
Get PDFThis study aims to determine how successful environmental planning is in fostering sustainable urban landscapes in Abeokuta, Ogun State. Rapid urbanization and expansion offer serious environmental issues and a greater risk of climate change. Environmental planning plays an essential role in the design of urban landscapes as well as the integration of environmental concerns into urban development processes. However, its capacity to offer long-term results must be assessed. The research will employ a case study approach, concentrating on specific neighborhoods in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria. The objectives of this study are to examine the existing environmental planning policies, legislation, and frameworks in Abeokuta, assess their implementation, and establish their impact on supporting sustainable urban landscapes. Furthermore, the study aims to uncover important methodologies and best practices for incorporating environmental issues into urban development processes, while taking Abeokuta\u27s specific socioeconomic and environmental conditions into account. Various research tools like Interviews, questionnaires, and discussions with significant stakeholders such as urban planners, lawmakers, environmental agencies, community leaders, and people will be used to collect primary data. The data will be analyzed subjectively and statistically to identify trends and themes related to the effectiveness of Abeokuta\u27s environmental planning. Natural resource preservation, green space management, environmental hazard reduction, and climate resilience enhancement will all be covered in the evaluation of sustainable urban landscapes. The study will also investigate the challenges and barriers to adopting environmental planning initiatives and the possibilities for improvement. The outcomes of the study will provide light on the efficacy of environmental planning in promoting sustainable urban landscapes in Abeokuta. Therecommendations and best practices from the study will serve as a reference for policymakers, urban planners, and other stakeholders interested in improving environmental planning and encouraging sustainable urban growth in Abeokuta and maybe other comparable cities. 
Digital Teachers as In-locus Parentis of Pupils\u27 Academic Performance during COVID-19 Lockdown at Sunshine Group of Schools, Ibadan, Oyo State
Get PDFCovid-19 unveils the necessity of digital teachers\u27 in-locus parentis at Sunshine Group of Schools towards improving pupils\u27 academic performance. This study aim to investigate the influence of digital teachers as in-locus parentis of pupils\u27 academic performance during the COVID-19 lockdown at Sunshine Group of schools, Ibadan, Oyo State. A descriptive research design was used to collect data and elicit information from the respondents. A questionnaire titled Digital Teachers\u27 (DT) questionnaire was created, and both face-to-face and content tests were carried out by a specialist in the field of education to assess the validity of the instrument. It was found that 40.9% of teachers at the Sunshine group of schools have upgraded their digital knowledge. WhatsApp application software is the most used by teachers during the lockdown with a percentage of 77.3%, followed by the use of Zoom application software with a percentage of 54.5%, and the least used application software has ties with Prezi, Kahoot, and Bloomwriter of 0.0%. This implies that there is a relationship between digital teachers and pupils\u27 educational performance. It was recommended that the teaching staff at the Sunshine Group of schools should be digitally upgraded and equipped

However, as disruptive technologies reshape the workforce, demand for highly skilled employees increases, shifting the focus from solely degree requirements to alternative measures of graduates\u27 work preparedness. The paper explores the importance of transferable skills in navigating the disruptive job market and how experiential learning, based on John Dewey\u27s theory, fosters these skills. These skills transcend specific job roles and industries, enabling students to remain adaptable and resilient in unpredictable career trajectories. Experiential learning is an educational approach that actively engages students in real-world experiences, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations. Specifically, the paper examines the components of experiential learning as presented in Dewey\u27s theory of experiential education along with some of the activities to embrace them in Higher Education Institutions. The experiential learning activities considered inter alia are work experience of all forms, project based learning, field trips, community engagement and employers and alumni engagements. The paper also offers practical guidance for implementing these activities effectively, empowering Higher Education Institutions to foster students\u27 transferable skills. This equips students with the confidence to navigate dynamic workplaces and attain sustained career success

Systematic Review of Human Resource Management Demand in the Fourth Industrial Revolution Era: Implication of Upskilling, Reskilling and Deskilling: .
No full textHuman resources are essential to an organization\u27s performance, competitiveness, and sustainability in any industrial revolution era. The Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) integrates advanced technologies and the convergence of physical, digital, and biological systems, offering HR professionals opportunities and threats. This study examines the implication of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) on upskilling, reskilling, and deskilling of Human resource management. The study adopted a systematic review of relevant literature on the various issues addressed in the research. The study critically analyzed 38 relevant research journals, articles, publications, opinions, and editorials on human resource management demand in the fourth industrial revolution era. The study revealed that 4IR technologies, such as AI and robotics, could accomplish jobs more effectively than humans, leading to deskilling. Adopting 4IR technologies will also require HR personnel to upskill in digital literacy, data analysis, programming, cyber-security, HR software analytics, emotional intelligence, and critical thinking. The study also revealed that HR personnel would need to reskill to acquire proficiency using 4IR technologies. The study concludes that adopting 4IR technologies will result in upskilling, reskilling, and deskilling of human resources. The study recommends that organizations invest in training and development programs to upskill and reskill HR personnel, regular skills assessments to identify obsolete skills, implementing training programs that meet the changing needs of the job, and developing a comprehensive workforce development strategy to consider alternative approaches to job design that prioritize the development of new skills and knowledge. 
Entrepreneurial Training and Business Sustainability of Beneficiaries of FIIRO Technologies: .
No full textEntrepreneurs play significant roles in the growth and development of world economies, particularly since the 19th century. They spur industry transformations, create entirely new markets, advance wealth generation, create social change and help in community development. All these aims to give better life and end poverty in all its forms and everywhere. Entrepreneurship training is a structured program that aims to equip participants with the necessary skillset and mindset for identifying and launching new business ventures. The objective of this study is to investigate entrepreneurial training as a determinant of business sustainability in Nigeria. For this purpose, 100 beneficiaries of FIIRO technologies are selected for this study bearing the following criteria in mind: must have been trained at FIIRO between 2002 and 2020; must have established an enterprise based on technology(ies) acquired at FIIRO; must have been in business for at least two years with a product in the market and must have made the list of 100 FIIRO Successful entrepreneurs. The study adopts cross sectional research design approach and purposive and convenience sampling techniques. The instrument for primary data collection is 6-point Likert Scale questionnaire. The questionnaires are self administered to the trainees. Financial measures namely profitability, sales growth and number of employees are used to measure business sustainability while entrepreneurial training factors are measured by training content, training budget, trainer\u27s competency, entry behaviour of trainees and trainee\u27s exit behaviour. The data collected are analysed using Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS) to examine the possible effect of the independent variable on the dependent variable. The findings reveal that entrepreneurial training 2 factors have significant and positive effect on business sustainability (r = 0.522, R = 0.581, R = 0.340 p<0.05 and F = 199.751 at p = 0.0000). Therefore, it is recommended that entrepreneurs should embrace training as a matter of policy. Decision makers and management consultants should consider entrepreneurial training as pivotal to enterprise growth and development to enhance business sustainability in Nigeria
Discourse Analysis of Interaction Engagements on Channels Television’s Politics Today
Get PDFInteraction engagements in political communication are the types of activity that politicians engage in, to articulate their ideologies and manifestoes and account for their stewardship. Most of the existing studies on political discourses have focused largely on textual patterns that address forms, content and diction, almost to the exclusion of interaction engagements in television-based political interviews within the Nigerian political space. This study, therefore, investigated interaction engagements in the discourse of Channels Television’s Politics Today (CTPT) by identifying different engagements involved in by both the guests and the anchor, to describe the importance of these engagements to sustainable political development in Nigeria. The study adopted Conversation Analysis (CA) and Speech Acts Theory as frameworks. Eleven episodes of Politics Today spanning between the years 2011 and 2015, which featured major political events, were purposively selected and downloaded from the official website of Channels Television Station. The data were transcribed and subjected to content-based qualitative analysis by identifying and describing the interaction engagements in the selected data through the tenets of Conversation Analysis and by tracking the functions of the engagements through the tenets of Speech Acts Theory. Eight interaction engagements characterise the discourse of CTPT. Electioneering manifests primary elections, election campaigns and the general elections; political appointments feature criticisms; parliamentary issues describe the happenings in the National Assembly; political defection illustrates how and why politicians defect to another political party; opposition is about criticism; security covers national security challenges; corruption manifests illegal behaviour of people in authority; while economy features the relationship between production, trade and the supply of money in Nigeria. Dialogic discussion of these identified engagements by politicians and political analysts keeps the public informed of the political happenings in Nigeria. Based on this information as well, the Nigerian populace is equipped with what they need to do to ensure sustainable political development in the country.  
Coordination and Apposition in Energy Reports in Selected Nigerian Online Newspapers
Get PDFThis study investigated the syntactic uses of coordination and apposition in energy reports in selected Nigerian newspapers published online. Fifteen energy reports were purposively selected from three Nigerian online newspapers – The Guardian, The Punch and Vanguard. The data analysis was guided by Hengeveld and Mackenzie’s Functional Discourse Grammar. The results showed that coordination was a crucial process in combining grammatical structures as applied to virtually every element of the sentences. The results also showed that coordination helped to give comprehensive details that were difficult to capture with a single lexical item and enhanced the level of details in syntactic situations in groups involvement. Where the coordination and was dominant, it was mainly used for the semantic purpose of addition. Furthermore, the findings showed that apposition was a useful grammatical element which catered for details such as names, positions and designated departments of officials and agencies mentioned in energy reports. It is therefore concluded that coordination and apposition are useful grammatical elements which can aid not just the cohesion of scientific reports but also improve their comprehensiveness and comprehensibility.
