    Get PDF
The study explores digital technology use, an essential tool for achieving nursery and primary school effectiveness. The stated goals and objectives of nursery and primary education necessitate a tool called digital technology use which could be harnessed to make teaching and learning more engaging and interesting to pupils. To curb ineffectiveness in the nursery and primary school, the study employs diffusion of innovation theory to examine digital technology use for effective instructional delivery. The study is hinged on Diffusion of Theory (DOT). The review highlights the critics of using digital technologies atthe foundation level and suggests the way forward such as pupils should be monitored both at home and in the school as to the number of hours allowed for digital technology use, as this will help curb the lack of social interaction that too much dependent on technology use cause since this will enable self assimilation and confidence in the nursery and primary school.&nbsp

Communication practices and administrative competence as the hallmark for effective performance of principals in Nigeria is the focus of this paper. It is not enough to keep the communication practices and administrative routine in public secondary schools in particular as a doctrine but to be necessary tools to achieve set goals of the school system especially in this era of global competitiveness. This paper is based on conceptual review. Reviews of several literature indicates that public secondary schools\u27 principals can have a great interpersonal and managerial skills if they can work on their skills based on recommendations. Therefore, based on the study\u27s reviews, it is argued that, although other factors may be at play to affect principals\u27 effective performance, the leadership style of the principals has a significant impact on communication practices, administrative competence, and performance in public secondary schools in Nigeria. The paper assessed the need for good communication practices, administrative competence and effective performance of principals and recommended the way forward to achieving effective performance of principals in Nigeria

The study examined the social, cultural and geographical considerations as determinants of governmental power equation Fourth Republic Nigeria. Three (3) research questions and three hypotheses were answered and tested in the study, respectively. The design of the study was correlational, with the population as the 774 Local Government Areas in Nigeria. These Local Government Areas have 774 Chairmen and Chairmen of Caretaker Committees, from which 387 (50%) were selected as sample using the simple random sampling technique. Respondents of the study responded to 2 sets of instruments. These were the 21-item Social, Cultural and Geographical Considerations Scale (SCGS) and the 8-item Governmental Power Equation Inventory (GPAI), designed by the researchers in the modified 4-point Likert scale model, with reliability indices of 0.84 and 0.89, respectively. Simple regression was used in answering the research questions while z-test associated with simple regression was used in testing the hypotheses at a 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study show that social, cultural and geographical considerations determine governmental power equation in Fourth Republic Nigeria and that there is a significant determination of social, cultural and geographical consideration of governmental power equation in Fourth Republic Nigeria. Consequently, the study concluded that social, cultural and geographical variables play strong roles in determining governmental power equation in Fourth Republic Nigeria. Recommendations made are that stake holders should come out with appropriate parameters when using these variables in determining governmental pendulum

Impact of Creative Dramatic Techniques on Listening skills of Private Nursery School’s Pupil in Ondo-West Local Government, Ondo State

    Get PDF
Poor acquisition of listening skill has been lamented by stakeholders in the education system in recent years especially at the primary schools level. Evidence has shown that, this problem could be traced to nursery education. Though, researchers have observed that improving this scenario requires doing activities, a learning and teaching process that creative dramatics techniques could achieve. More so, there is a dearth of studies on creative dramatics techniques as it relates to listening skill in private nursery schools in Ondo State. It is against this background that the study investigates the impact of creative dramatics techniques (Pantomime and Dramatization of Poem) on listening (comprehensive listening and discriminative listening) skills among private nursery school’s pupils in Ondo West Local Government, Ondo State. Questionnaire was used to gather data from 105 teachers purposively selected from 53 private nursery schools. The results showed that creative dramatics techniques and listening skills have strong correlation (R = 0.556, The P<0.05), and that Dramatization of poem (? = 0.51, t = 9.998; P<0.05) contributes significantly to listening skills than pantomime (? = 0.14, t = 4.238; P<0.05).It is therefore recommended that government and stakeholders should put in place training that will improve teachers’ knowledge in creative dramatics, especially for nursery schools’ teachers. In conclusion, adopting pantomime and dramatization of poem in nursery school will stimulate the learning capacity of the pupils in nursery school to easily capture the skills required to cultivate comprehensive and discriminative exercises

Elucidating development and security crisis in Sub-Sahara Africa with a bird eye view on Nigeria has been an issue worthy of consideration. This result from conflicts, insurgencies, and internal wars that characterise Nigeria as well as Post-Colonial African States. The study investigate development prospect and security crisis in Nigeria. The research paper affirms that the prevailing security challenges confronting the Nigerian state are structurally entrenched and deeply rooted in development crises. This vacuum has led to societal maladies such as economic disparities, ethno-religious divides, inequality, unemployment, poverty, and marginalisation, to mention a few thus, transcending into a national security problem, which now seems to threaten the unity of the State. Adopting the methodology of qualitative approach with the use of secondary data and content analysis, the research adopts the Political Instability Theory in analysing development prospect and security crises in Nigeria. The study finds that institutional corruption, economic disparities, ethno-religious divide are some of the factors enhancing development and security crises in Nigeria. The study concludes that the problems of development and security crises will persist in Nigeria so far security problems are treated differently from developmental challenges. The research paper recommends the tackling the problem of unemployment in Nigeria, collaboration with the international community as a means of litigating development problems and security crises in the Nigerian state

Predictors of Job-Hopping Intention and Academics\u27 Engagement in Southwest Nigeria: A Moderating Role of Generational Diversity: Role of Institutions in Entrepreneurial Ecosystem in Sub-Saharan Africa

    No full text
Many universities worldwide have lost a sizable portion of their critical faculty regarding physical removal, work engagement, and loyalty, reducing involvement in their fundamental tasks (research production, teaching engagement, and community service engagement). In this study, we explored the moderating role of generational diversity on academic attention and the desire to change jobs. The job embeddedness theory serves as the study\u27s theoretical foundation. A five-point Likert scale questionnaire surveyed 620 academics from a few universities in Southwest Nigeria. The respondents were chosen for this study using a convenience random sampling method. Five hundred and forty-five copies of the questionnaire, or an 87.9% response rate, were returned and used in the analysis. The moderating impact of generational diversity on the perceived link between predictors of the desire to change jobs and academic engagement was assessed using structural equation modelling (SEM). The results demonstrate that indicators of exogenous factors (predictors of job-hopping intention and generational diversity) accounted for 62.7% of the variability in academics\u27 involvement in the chosen universities. Generational diversity\u27s moderating effects, however, were determined to be insignificant. Consequently, generational variation has to predict the impact on academic involvement. Therefore, the study recommends that the university\u27s management should promote diversity management by harnessing the inherent benefits of diversity to enhance academic engagement. Also, to foster generational synergy in the workplace, management must understand the variations among generational cohorts.&nbsp

Investigating the Threshold of Financial Development that stimulates Inclusive Growth in Nigeria: .

    No full text
There is hardly a simple linear link between financial development and inclusive growth. The expansion of financial markets might not always guarantee more people will benefit from economic growth. This study uses the principal component analysis to create a comprehensive index of financial development and inclusive growth and also establishes the non-linear relationship them using the VECM and ARDL estimators. Thus, this study uses empirical samples derived from Nigerian national statistics collected between 1985 and 2020 to determine the threshold of financial development (proxied by domestic bank credit, broad money, lending-deposit spread and financial development index) that stimulates inclusive growth. The findings show that there is an optimal interval because the link between financial development index and inclusive growth has an inverted U shape, but the components of financial development have U shapes. The result showed that the minimum domestic bank credit to private sector to GDP that stimulate inclusive growth is at 18.22% and 13.49% in the short-run and long run respectively. Concerning money supply to GDP, it would stimulate inclusive growth at 17.84% in the long run. As to financial development index, it exhibits a maximum threshold of 0.697 to maintain inclusive growth in the long run. On the basis of the findings of the research study, specific recommendations for policy are provided

Health Expenditure and Health Outcomes in ECOWAS: .

Health of a population has been of importance to the international community as stressed in sustainable development goals (SDGs) specifically, goals three and goal six. The priority given to health can be reflected in government expenditure on health which in turn determines economic growth of a nation. The burden of disease in West African region is high as 69% of diseases in the region is linked to chronic and infectious diseases causing death. In effect, life expectancy in the region is 63.24 years in 2020 which is low compared to that of developed countries. While there are indications that regions are improving health outcomes, investment in human capital is an avenue for an economy to achieve the desired health goals; low infant mortality, low maternal mortality, high life expectancy and low under-five mortality. There are opportunities to advance the gains made overtime especially through sustained health expenditure. Health sector in some African countries is lagging in required infrastructure as reflected in the demand for health care abroad. Also, there are variation in spending to health care across countries while in some contexts, private sector and international community commit more resources to health care in developing countries. In the light of this, the paper examines the relationship between health expenditure and health outcomes in ECOWAS region. In achieving this objective, data on health outcomes and health expenditure was sourced from World Development Indicators (WDI) for 15 member states of the West African region, using Panel data spanning from 2000 to 2020 and panel analysis was conducted. The outcome of this study indicates a significant effect of healthcare expenditure on health outcomes in ECOWAS region. Healthcare expenditures improves life expectancy and reduces the risk of mortality rate. Hence, the study recommends that government should allocate and monitor funds towards improving the health systems. Basic amenities that have direct effect on health status of the population such as clean sanitation, basic clean water, preventive medications and should be, accessible to people.&nbsp

Impulse Response of Agricultural Performance to Monetary Policy Dynamics in Nigeria: : VAR Model Analysis

    No full text
This study investigates the impact of monetary policy shocks on agricultural performance in Nigeria from 1981 to 2021, employing impulse response and variance decomposition estimators. The impulse response results reveal that average agricultural performance responds positively to monetary policy rate initially, with a subsequent downturn, while lending interest rate shocks significantly boost performance in the short term but adversely affect it later. Liquidity ratio exhibits an initial increase followed by a decline, then a positive response for the remaining periods. Deposit money bank credit to agriculture initially elicits a negative response, followed by a steep rise and maintenance of a positive trend. Findings from the variance decomposition estimator indicate that monetary policy instruments, particularly monetary policy rate, liquidity ratio, lending interest rate, and deposit money bank credit to agriculture, collectively account for 23.79% of the total variation in agricultural performance. Monetary policy rate shock dominates with 44.35%, followed by liquidity ratio (32.64%), lending interest rate (18.78%), and deposit money bank credit to agriculture (4.32%). Recommendations include emphasizing expansionary monetary policies, easing access to credit for farmers, prioritizing affordable credit programs, and increasing budgetary allocations to the agricultural sector for sustained economic contributions

Effect of Institutions on Health Outcomes in Nigeria

    No full text
This research study investigates the effect of institutions on health outcomes in Nigeria between 1984 and 2020. Two measures of health outcomes used are life expectancy and infant mortality. Using the ARDL bound estimator, this study found that institutions negatively influenced life expectancy both in short run and long run. Thus, the negative influence was only significant statistically in the short run. It means that weak institutional settings do not have the impetus to improve the expected average number of years an individual lives after birth. Also, institutional framework has no significant effect on infant mortality both in short run and long run. On the policy front, proper governance and institutional handling must be maintained to ensure appropriate and efficient use of public sector health funds, as well as accountability and transparency to ensure improve life expectancy and curtail infant mortality
