Make-up is one important aspect of theatre that helps to build the director’s conceptualization. It involves the use of cosmetics and other materials to help transform an actor into the character he or she is meant to play. Simply put, it interprets the role of a character alongside costume. Special Effects Make-up is one of the four types of theatre make-up. This aspect is one which requires special training and skillfulness. Make-up is taught alongside costume design but does not receive much attention in schools. As a result, students who choose to be make-up artists do not have adequate information and experience in the field. Some of the problems faced by special effects make-up artists include short time-frame, unavailability of materials, poor lighting and environmental factors. This research work is limited to the analytical breakdown of the six selected films, drawing out the special effects make-up deployed in them, although references will be made to other films when and where necessary. This study serves as a resource text for researchers and scholars interested in Nollywood, especially in the area of makeup. It also hopes to fill the lapse in the application and development of special effects make-up in Nollywood. This research employs the qualitative method of research using analysis of related literature such as text books, journals, online materials, articles, and six selected films were consulted to obtain relevant information. The films are Maami, October 1, Figurine, Igodo, Koto Orun, and The Meeting. They were all monitored on DVDs. The Symbolism theory will be used to define the viewpoint of this study.Findings made during this research include lack of skill and professional training, unavailability of materials, blending, environmental factors, short time-frame and insufficient academic training

    Get PDF
Electroencephalography (EEG) is a non-invasive neuroimaging technique that measures electrical activity in the brain. It has gained considerable attention in recent years due to its potential applications in various fields, including healthcare, neurology, and cognitive neuroscience. However, the successful implementation of EEG-based approaches poses several challenges that need to be addressed. This abstract focuses on exploring the challenges associated with EEG-based approaches and their application in Nigeria. The challenges include limited resources and infrastructure, lack of specialised training, cultural and societal factors, and data quality issues. These challenges can hinder the widespread adoption and effective utilization of EEG technology in the Nigerian context. Despite these challenges, EEG-based approaches hold significant promise in various applications within Nigeria. The potential applications include diagnosing and monitoring neurological disorders, studying cognitive processes, investigating mental health conditions, and developing brain-computer interface systems. To address the challenges, collaborative efforts between researchers, healthcare professionals, and policymakers are essential. Investments in infrastructure, training programs, and research funding can help overcome resource limitations and promote the adoption of EEG technology. Additionally, raising awareness about the benefits of EEG based approaches, addressing cultural and societal concerns, and establishing data quality standards are crucial steps towards successful implementation. In conclusion, while EEG-based approaches face challenges in Nigeria, they offer immense potential for advancing healthcare and neuroscience research. Overcoming these challenges through concerted efforts will pave the way for the widespread adoption and effective application of EEG technology in Nigeria, leading to improved diagnosis, treatment, and understanding of brain related conditions.&nbsp

    No full text
This paper examines the effect of job stress on employees\u27 adaptive performance of staff of selected banks in Lagos State, Nigeria. To achieve this objective, research data was collected from primary and secondary sources. A sample size of 133 respondents was chosen using Yaro Yamani method while the sample size was randomly drawn from the staff of branches of GTBank and Access Bank Plc in Lagos State. The theoretical underpinning of this study stems from the role theory and person environment fit. The data was analyzed using correlation matrix and multiple regression analysis. The result shows that the variability changes in the employees\u27 adaptive performance could be accounted for by approximately 97% of factors related to job stress (proxied using different job stress dimensions such as job roles, physical and mental conditions of employees, and work environment). The findings also reveal that there is a significant relationship between job stress and adaptive performance of employees in banking sector in Nigeria. Giving the importance of job stress, especially in the banking sector and how to improve the adaptive performance of the employees, the study recommends that managers and supervisors should reduce all distortions of responsibilities and clarify job roles, know the kind of personality traits among the individuals in their team and improve the physical work environment to reduce pressure on employees.&nbsp

Globalization, Environmental Sustainability and Income Inequality in ECOWAS: : A Casual Approach

    No full text
Over the last years, developmental economists, policymakers, and stakeholders have focused on the macroeconomic effects of globalization, environmental sustainability and income inequality in the developing economies. Despite globalization and environment sustainability being recognized as factors of income inequality, studies on ECOWAS region are scarce and contradictory due to inappropriateness of proxies and methodologies. This study investigates the causal relationship among globalization, environmental sustainability, and income inequality in ECOWAS within the periods 1996-2019. Using the panel Granger casualty estimator, the findings showed that environmental sustainability and globalization have no causal link with income inequality. Trade openness has a uni-causal link with carbon emissions. Also, carbon emissions Granger cause changes in ecological footprints, implying that environmental policies aimed at reducing CO2 emissions can positively impact ecological footprints. As well, income growth Granger causes increased globalization, implying that policies promoting income growth can foster globalization. The study recommends that environmental friendly policies such as renewable energy incentives and carbon pricing to reduce carbon emissions while promoting pro-poor growth plans. Also, green trade initiatives that align with climate goals as well as trade agreements need to be implemented to promote sustainable practice
