Preservation and Conservation Practices on Service Quality of Health Information Management Professionals in Public Health Institutions in Oyo State, Nigeria
Service quality (SQ) is the degree to which a service satisfies the needs and expectations ofhealthcare consumer (patients). Service quality among health information managementprofessionals’ is the comparison between service expectations and perceptions as patientsexpectation serves as a foundation for evaluating quality practice. Service quality is high whenperformance exceeds expectation. Preservation and conservation practice (PCP) entails all actionstaken to extend the useful life of patient health records including treatment to avoid mutilation anddamage as these influence service quality. Literature has not been established on how preservationand conservation practice influence service quality among health information managementprofessionals, it is on this that this study analyze Preservation and conservation practice on servicequality of health information management professionals in public health institutions in Oyo State.Thestudy is cross-sectional with 322 HIMPs, total enumeration technique was employed. Well-structured questionnaire was used for data collection. Data collected was analyzed usingdescriptive and inferential statistics. The findings revealed that HIMPs render very high qualityservice to their patients with the grand mean of 3.55 on a four-point scale. It also showed very highlevel of PCP with grand mean of 3.60 on a scale of four. Hypothesis shows a positive relationshipbetween PCP and SQ at 0.667, adjusted value r2 at 0.444. The outcome show that PCP hascontributed significantly to SQ of HIMPs in PHIs in Oyo State. Therefore, it is recommended thatHIMPs should be encouraged with relevant training to enhance higher performance
INFLUENCE OF SELF-EFFICACY OF LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE STUDENTS ON LEARNING OUTCOMES IN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS AT OSUN STATE, NIGERIA
The learning outcomes of Library and Information Science (LIS) students in tertiary institutionsin Osun State serve as key indicators of educational quality and professional preparedness.However, initial investigations reveal a decline in students’ practical competencies, particularly inorganizing information, leading to challenges in employability and professional performance. Asa result, some LIS graduates remain unemployed, while others struggle to manage Informationand Communication Libraries effectively. This deficiency has prompted some institutions to hirenon-professional digital librarians, potentially affecting the integrity of the LIS field. Despiteextensive research on learning outcomes and self-efficacy, there remains a gap in understandingthe specific impact of self-efficacy on LIS students\u27 learning outcomes in Osun State. This studyemployed a descriptive survey research design, targeting 3,500 LIS students across fouruniversities and three polytechnics in Osun State. A sample of 346 students was selected, and datawas collected using a structured questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were used to interpret theresults, including frequency distribution, percentage, and mean analysis. Findings indicate asignificant positive relationship between self-efficacy and learning outcomes. Additionally,students’ ability to initiate, select, and formulate information during the search processsignificantly influenced their academic performance. The study recommends that LIS studentsenhance their self-efficacy to improve their professional competence and employability. Lecturersand policymakers should prioritise strategies that foster self-efficacy, while curriculum revisionsshould emphasise practical training. Employers should also recognise the potential of LISgraduates to mitigate biases affecting hiring practices. These efforts will collectively improvelearning outcomes and the professional standing of LIS graduates
School-related Factors and Junior Secondary School Student’s Motivation towards Learning in Ogun State, Nigeria
The intricate relationship between school-related factors and student motivation had become a pivotal focus in contemporary educational discourse, particularly in the context of junior secondary education. This study delves into the multifaceted dynamics of this relationship to shed light on the nuanced implications of school-related factors on the motivation of junior secondary school students. By investigating the combined and relative influence of teacher support, classroom rules, and instructional resource availability, the research offered valuable insights into optimising learning environments and fostering a sustainable culture of academic enthusiasm. The study employed a descriptive survey research design gathering data from a representative subset of470,449 students from 510 public junior secondary schools in Ogun State, Nigeria. Using multiple regression analysis, the findings underscored the significant combined influence of school-related factors on student motivation (F = 79546.842, p < 0.05), with instructional resource availability demonstrating the highest relative influence ( = 0.570, p < 0.05), followed by teacher support ( = 0.223, p < 0.05), and classroom rules ( = 0.041, p < 0.05). The study highlights the need for continuous investment in instructional resources, comprehensive professional development for educators, and the adoption of a balanced approach to classroom management to foster a conducive learning environment and enhance student motivation. Recommendations included prioritizing resource provision, comprehensive teacher development programs, balanced classroom management approaches,and increased parental engagement to bolster student motivation and learning outcomes
Advancement of the potentials of Codices Video Game for Senior Secondary School Mathematics learning in Kwara State
Teachers’inability to incorporate variety of instructional schemes has been reportedin studies as major factors for the disappointing performance of students inMathematics or science. This paper examined the development and usage of CodiceVideo Games (CVG) to teach and enhancestudents cognitive learning processes inMathematics. The prospect of CVG to support learning and several researchers’efforts to assist learnersto overcome challenges related to mathematics wereexplored. A quasi-experimental-control group design was adopted. Four purposivelyselected senior secondary schools from the population with intact classes consistingof 50 SS II students were assigned to experimental and 60 others to control groupsrespectively in Irepodun local government area of Kwara State. The developmentand efficacy of a CVG on probability was conducted. A CVG rating scale whosereliability coefficient was determined through Kendall’s concordance that yielded0.76 index was used for data collection. Data obtained from the test scores ofstudents were analysed, which revealed that students taught with CVG had higher mean gain score than those taught with the conventional method in Probability, the interaction effect of CVG on gender favoured female than male students, CVG usagewas loaded with potentials more effective for students’ probability learning. Therefore, it was suggested that considerable attention should be given to the use of CVG in learning Mathematical concepts, and learner characteristics in Mathematics
Conflict Transformation Strategy in Organisations in Nigeria: Roles of Counselling Psychologists
It has been submitted over time that conflict is inevitable in any organization mainlybecause of individual differences, varied interests and the push for service of self.For an individual interestingly, there are at least, three types of intrapersonalconflict, how much more would it be for many people within a social space?Problems continue to emanate in the world of work as workers have differentexperiences and the system in which their work may not adequately take care oftheir individual needs. Different strategies have been adopted by experts in humanresources management in handling conflicts. However, conflict transformationstrategy seems not to have been adequately adopted, and this leaves a gap inliterature. This evidenced-based approach stands out as it employs conflict analysis,involving actors in the driving seat of social change, adopting principle of inclusionin peace building,using holistic human rights approach, considering moral dilemmas,and overcoming gender-specific power relations and violence. This paper highlightsand discusses the roles of counselling psychologists in ensuring the use of conflict transformation strategy in organisations in Nigeria. Recommendations are made among which is comprehensive conflict analysis and inclusive approach in effectivelydealing with conflicts in the workplace
Parental Factors as Predictor of Pupils Academic Achievement in Mathematics among Public Primary Schools in Ogun State
The goal of provided educational opportunities to learners was to ensure thatthey have opportunity to succeed both as as students and member of thelarger community they belonged. Mathematics performance of a student atschool does not depend on attributes like mental and physical capabilityalone, but other factors such as family factor must also be put intoconsideration, because of the tendency of influencing the performance ofpupils in school subject including Mathematics worldwide. The studyinvestigated on how family factors could predict Mathematics performanceof pupils in primary schools in Ogun State. The study adopted a descriptivesurvey research design. While sample was selected, using purposive samplingtechnique to select the sixty six (66) participants. Three research questionswere posted for the study. Data were collected through a structuredquestionnaire and analysed using Regression analysis at a 0.05 level ofsignificance, the findings revealed that parents factors (level of literacy, parental occupation and parental income) can predict (F3,96=1.457;p<0.05) pupils academic achievement in Mathematics in the study area.Based on the findings, it is therefore recommended that parents should bemade aware of the heavy influence of how they treat their children in termsof the parenting style adopted. Parents should also be encouraged to strivehard in making available the necessary materials needed for their children\u27seducation especially in Mathematics
Investigating The Impact of Development Communication Interventions On Women’s Empowerment: A Case Study Of The 2017 Women Empowerment Workshop By Theooni Of Ife In Osun State, Nigeria
This research investigated the impact of the Women Empowerment Workshop organised by theOoni of Ife in Osun State, Nigeria, in 2017. The workshop aimed to enhance women\u27sempowerment through development communication strategies. A total of 7 women participated inthe study, and data were collected through focus group discussion and analysed thematically.Findings revealed that the workshop effectively raised awareness of systemic challenges faced bywomen, fostered empowerment, and strengthened social networks. Participants reported increasedconfidence, particularly in their ability to advocate for themselves, engage in community activities,and collaborate with others. The workshop also provided mentorship and expanded socialconnections that facilitated advocacy and cooperation. However, challenges such as limitedresources, personal responsibilities, and lack of ongoing support hindered the full application ofthe new skills. This study shows the importance of sustained financial and social support inempowerment programs and recommends follow-up initiatives, the creation of a resource hub, andthe inclusion of practical activities in the curriculum to enhance long-term impact
Information Literacy Skills and Digital Information Resources: Their Role in University Students\u27 Academic Activities
Information literacy skills and digital information resources are essential for students’development to enhance their academic activities. This study examined information literacy skillsand digital information resources on academic activities of University Students in Nigeria. Surveyresearch design was adopted for the study. The population for this study comprised 7020 students.5,324 from Lead City University and 1,696 from Mountain University. Stratified samplingtechnique was adopted. The sample size was 400 respondents. Data were analyzed usingdescriptive and inferential statistics. The result shows that Information literacy skills enablestudents to recognize different methods of accessing electronic 163 (41.7%); ILS enable studentsto judge the accuracy and authenticity of website information 145 (37.1%). Majority of thestudents fully utilized internet access 197 (47.8%), computer system and personal data 178(45.8%). The students\u27 level of information literacy and their use of digital information resourcesinfluence their academic activities. The library management should strive to obtain up-to-datedigital resources, provide extensive internet access bandwidth, and ensure an ample supply ofcomputer systems and electronic reference sources
Adoption Of Artificial Intelligence Tools and Students’ Academic Performance in Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, Ogun State
The adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in education is essential for developingevidence-based learning practices and optimizing the academic environment. This studyexamined the effect of AI tools on students’ academic performance at Federal Polytechnic,Ilaro, Ogun State. A survey research design was employed, utilizing a structured questionnaireas the primary data collection instrument. The study targeted HND final-year students, with atotal population of 2,639 as of December 2024. Using the Taro Yamane sample size formula, asample of 347 respondents was selected. Regression and correlation statistical models wereapplied to analyze the relationship between AI tool usage and students\u27 academicperformance.The findings revealed no significant relationship between the use of AI tools andstudents\u27 academic performance. Specifically, ChatGPT exhibited a weak negative correlationwith academic performance; however, the result was not statistically significant. Likewise,Turnitin and Quillbot showed correlations close to zero, indicating no meaningful relationshipwith students’ academic outcomes. The high p-values for all three AI tools 0.064 for ChatGPT,0.979 for Turnitin, and 0.881 for Quillbot further confirmed that their impact on academicperformance was not statistically significant at the institution.Therefore, it can be concludedthat while AI tools such as ChatGPT, Turnitin, and Quillbot are widely utilized in academicsettings, their direct influence on students’ academic performance at Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro,remains minimal. Based on these findings, the study recommends that the institution\u27smanagement educate students on the moderate and responsible use of AI tools for academicwork. This approach will help foster critical thinking skills and prevent potential drawbacksassociated with over-reliance on AI technologies in learning
Economic Damages of Primates on Farmlands around Ibodi Monkey Forest, Osun State, Nigeria
There have been the reports of incidence of primate’s invasion within the vicinity of Ibodi Monkey Forest, in Osun State, Nigeria. This article examined the expected losses incurred, owing to damages caused by primates on farmlands as well as the techniques of control. For the study, primary data were gathered and used. Open-ended questionnaires were used to gather data, and they were given to all the affected farmers in the research area. In order to identify and sample the impacted farms, the non-probability snowballing method was applied. The outcome showed that each farmer in the settlements of Eriperi, Iyemogun, Isaobi, and Ileki-Ijesha lost an estimated average amount of cocoa valued at N67,656.35±420.90, â‚N68,248.14±500.97,â‚N66,094.73±482.22, â‚N67,817.90±554.17, respectively. Also, an estimated average of â‚N3,979.18, N3,981.33, N3,974, and N3,905.85 worth of maize were lost on farmlands by each farmer at Eriperi, Iyemogun, Isaobi and Ileki-Ijesha settlements respectively. dditionally, in the aforementioned communities, an estimated average of N4,780.53, N3,993.50, N5,834.48, and N5,321.99 worth of cassavaplants were lost to primates. Additionally, the majority of respondents (37.8%, 18.2%, 20.1% and 23.9% in Eriperi, Iyemogun, Isaobi, and Ileki-Ijesha, respectively) used firearms to manage primates on their farmlands. The data also demonstrates that traps, scarecrows, chasing and firearms were the four (4) fundamental primate-invasion control methods utilized by farmers in the study locations to reduce damage. On the basis of the study’s findings, recommendations were made.
