    Get PDF
This study examined the intricate nexus between excessive social media consumption, mental health outcomes, and coping strategies among emerging adults within the context of Lead City University, Ibadan. Analyzing data from 195 participants, the research unveils a significant association between the hours spent on social media platforms and dimensions such as anxiety, depression, and self-esteem. These results resonate with prior research, highlighting the need for proactive interventions to address the potential risks of unrestrained digital engagement. Furthermore, the study illuminates the patterns of seeking help among emerging adults grappling with mental health challenges. While individuals predominantly rely on their immediate social circles for support, there is a comparatively lower utilization of available mental health professionals. This underscores the significance of destigmatizing expert help and enhancing awareness about the array of support services available within the university. In response, the study underscores the importance of fostering an environment that promotes both mindful digital engagement and proactive mental health support mechanisms. These findings collectively advocate for Lead City University, Ibadan, to initiate targeted awareness campaigns, thereby cultivating a holistic ecosystem that prioritizes the mental well-being of its student population within the evolving digital landscape

    Get PDF
Institutional repositories offer numerous advantages to academic staff as it provides access to local contents capable of enhancing their research and also offer the opportunity to make research works available to the global community. However, available evidence suggests a low level of institutional repository use among academic staff in Nigerian universities. This study examines the role of multidimensional awareness on the use of institutional repositories. The study adopts a survey research method. The study population is made up of academic staff from Universities in Oyo and Osun state. Amultistage sampling procedure is adopted to select 235 lecturers. The research instrument is a structured questionnaire adapted from the Endsley\u27s Situational Awareness Theory (SAT). Data collected was analysed with the IBM SPSS software using both descriptive and inferential statistics. The results shows that while there is a high level of perception among the respondents, majority of the respondents demonstrated low level comprehension and projection, two dimensions, critical to the understanding of the true essence of institutional repositories. In addition, the test of hypothesis revealed that awareness has a significant influence on the use of institutional repositories among the respondents. The study concluded that, without raising full awareness about the mission and functions of institutional repositories, Nigerian tertiary institution and their staff will continue to miss out on the benefits of using institutional repositories. It was therefore recommended that institutional repository awareness programs should be practical oriented.&nbsp

    Get PDF
This study explores the intricate relationship between faith and culture, arguing that they are complementary rather than mutually exclusive. The narrative in Luke 10: 38-42 reveals how Jesus’ teachings and actions embody both spiritual and cultural significance. The study used hermeneutics and historical methods to analyze the cultural context of hospitality in the Jewish understanding of welcoming guests in their homes while highlighting how Jesus’ presence in the home of Martha and Mary exemplifies the integration of faith and culture. The work revealed that Martha’s hospitality and Mary’s receptivity to Jesus’ teachings are not mutually exclusive, rather complementary aspects of their faith. The study explores how Jesus’ acceptance of Martha’s hospitality and his teaching on the importance of listening to God’s word (Luke 10: 38-42) affirm the interconnectedness of faith and culture. This study’s findings suggest that faith and culture are not in tension but rather enrich each other, leading to a more profound understanding of God’s work in the world. The paper concluded that embracing the complementary of faith and culture enables believers to live out their faith in a more authentic and meaningful way, engaging with their cultural context in a manner that honours God. This paper, by exploring the complementarity of faith and culture, fosters a deeper understanding of how faith can nurture and shape the culture and how, in turn, culture can enrich the faith, thereby leading to a more nuanced and compassionate expression of Christian living. This research contributes to the ongoing conversation on the interaction of faith and culture, encouraging believers to embrace the complementarity of these two aspects of human experience.&nbsp

Collaborative Learning Measures using Collaboration Analytics: Applications, Limitations, and Caveats Review

    Get PDF
There is a widely held belief that social interaction among learners in groups enhances learning. However, for collaborative learning to be effective, it must meet certain requirements, for example, having appropriate goal structures and tasks that demand collective efforts to be solved. Collaboration analytics is a field of research that aims to measure collaborative learning or learning in groups by quantifying qualitative data. Collaboration analytics in research also provides a more reliable tool for handling massive amounts of data. However, for data to be reliable, there is a need for intercoder agreement. The endeavor to quantify qualitative data using collaboration analytics has proven to be useful, but with certain limitations and caveats

Public relations strategies are sacrosanct to crisis management. Governments often use public relations strategies to maintain peace in the society. The study assessed the perception of students of tertiary institutions in Lagos on the State Government\u27s public relations strategies in managing the Lekki Shooting during the #ENDSARS protests in October 2020. Data were gathered using quantitative and qualitative research methods. Research instrument was administered on 353 students of four universities, while four key informants from the public sector were interviewed. Findings show that the public relations strategies deployed by Lagos State Government were Community Relations (Mean = 2.44), Media Relations (Mean = 2.43), Corporate Social Responsibility (Mean = 2.28) and Government Relations (Mean = 2.27) and they were found to be effective. However, Community Relations and Media Relations strategies were most effective. The study reveals that the strategic public relations efforts of State Government underestimated the power of digital media in stoking the embers of violence. Thus, there was loophole in the strategies adopted. The study therefore recommended that the Lagos State Government should integrate digital media in its public relations strategies and intensify its strategic community relations to build goodwill among the youths to forestall further crisis in future. The study also recommended that government should draw on the goodwill of the people to prevent future breakdown of law and order
