Effect Of Peer Tutoring and Teacher Centred Strategies on the Academic Performance of Hearing Impaired Students Comorbid with Learning Disabilities in Oyo State, Nigeria
The presence of learning disability as a major comorbid disability associated with hearing impairment compounds the learning difficulties experienced by these students. Most teachers of learners with these conditions who do not realise their learning challenges find it difficult to use appropriate teaching strategy to meet the learning needs. This study, therefore, was designed to determine the effect of peer tutoring on the academic performance of hearing impaired students comorbid with learning disabilities in Oyo State, Nigeria. The moderating effects of gender and degree of hearing loss were also examined. Three hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. A pretest-posttest control group quasi experimental design with a 3x2x2 factorial matrix was adopted. Three schools for students with hearing impairment were purposively selected based on the availability of students with hearing impairment. Fourty students with hearing impairment were screened for learning disabilities with Myklebust rating scale. These students with mild and moderate hearing loss were further screened and selected with the use of AD629-Hybrid Diagnostic Audiometer. The schools were randomly assigned to treatment groups and control groups. The treatment lasted eight weeks. T-test was used to analyze the data collected. The study revealed peer-tutoring strategy more than teacher centered strategy improved the academic performance of hearing impaired students with learning disabilities in Ibadan, Nigeria particularly among females with moderate hearing loss. The study also revealed that females in the two treatment groups had better academic performance than the control group. This therefore implies that students learn better and faster when they learn together because they see themselves as equal without seeing anyone among them as being superior. Therefore, these strategies should be adopted by teachers of with hearing impairment whose notice that students exhibit traits of learning disabilities with poor academic performanc

Mitigating Effects of COVID-19 Pandemic on Tertiary Education in Nigeria: : A Focus on Social Media and Funding in Educational Sector
atforms was adopted by tertiary institutions. This study, therefore, aims to examine the expensive nature of social media and government financial assistance in mitigating the effect of COVID-19 pandemic on e-learning in tertiary education. Although the adoption of social media platforms for e-learning has ensured continuity in learning, it appears to make education more expensive inthe post-COVID-19 era. Thus, this study suggests that financial assistance could mitigate the pains of social media platforms on online learning. The methodology is purely qualitative. The article adopted an ethnographic design. The target audience was lecturers and students in 3 tertiary institutions in Southwest, Nigeria. (University of Lagos, Ibadan Polytechnic and Federal College of Education, Oyo). The three tertiary institutions were purposively selected. Primary data were collected through online Key Informant Interview and Federal Group Discussion while secondary data were from journals articles, monographs and relevant books. The study concludes that despite the opportunity of social media platforms, teachers and learners still suffer the pains of the COVID-19pandemic on teaching due to financial constraints. The study recommends creation of a new policy on free data software for academic purposes
Online Presence of Reproductive Health Advocacy Campaign Organisations and Knowledge of Sickle Cell Disease among Undergraduates of Two Private Universities in Oyo State
Nigeria is one of the epicenters of Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) with substantial cases. Globally, lack of knowledge of SCD especially people within the reproductive age is frequently attributed to the increase in recorded cases of SCD. Therefore, this study investigates the online presence of reproductive health advocacy campaign organisations and knowledge of sickle cell disease among undergraduates of two private universities in Oyo State. The study is anchored on Information Processing Theory; it adopted an exploratory sequential research design involving content analysis and descriptive survey research design. Qualitative data involved ten health advocacy organisations; through content analysis using non/frequency counts and contingency data analysis; quantitative data collection involved a sample of 323 undergraduates of Lead City University and Kola Daisi University using a self-developed \u27Social Media Sickle Cell Advocacy Campaign Questionnaire\u27 administered on Google forms and analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics, findings revealed that ten advocacy organisations have online presence majorly on Twitter (70%), Instagram (70%) and Facebook (70%); fully involved in providing online support services through informative sharing of educational contents, research findings, organising conferences and fundraising. Findings further revealed that the majority of the undergraduates have a good knowledge of SCD which suggested that online advocacy campaigns effectively enhance their knowledge. Again, there was a significant relationship between social media advocacy campaigns and the level of knowledge of SCD (0.701; P=0.000). The study concludes that social media platforms are potential and powerful tools for disseminating health information and suggests its intensive and proactive use among young people.

Towards a Sustainable National Security: Examining the Effect of Regulations Against Fake News and Hate Speech in Nigerian Media
Sequel to the high prevalence of ventilating fake news, misinformation, and hate speech in the media, most especially by social media users; and taking into cognisance the resultant insecurity, instability, and disunity that such an act portends, many countries including Nigeria, have been swiftly responding, by formulating different policies to "regulate" the use of social media platforms and its contents, to curtail the growing menace. This study which is hinged on agenda setting theory, therefore, investigated whether or not all these regulations have been of any effect to curb or completely eradicate the ugly trend in the Nigerian society and media space. The study utilised library research to arrive at secondary data and thematically discussed the topic by dissecting existing and relevant scholarly literature and articles that are useful for understanding the issues surrounding the investigation. Findings revealed that these regulations in Nigeria are not only repressive but ineffective; and that social media users could hardly be encumbered by government regulations, at least for now, largely because of the nature of the internet which is not limited by geographical boundaries. The study, therefore, recommended among others, that both the government and media owners should organise, from time to time, media literacy campaigns that will instill a sense of responsible use of the media space in the consciousness of social media users

Therefore, this study investigated the use of social media platforms and engagement in citizens\u27 journalism regarding security challenges in Nigeria among The Polytechnic Ibadan Students. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design, multi-stage sampling procedure was adopted in the sample selection of 403 respondents. Avalidated instrument named; the Citizen Journalism Social Media Questionnaire(r=0.874) was used for data collection, and data was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings revealed that students of The Polytechnic Ibadan made use of popular social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp (weighted x? 1.40) respectively, and engaged in online discussion of security challenges to a large extent using Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Telegram, and others (weighted x? 2.11). Also, there was no significant difference (r = 0.053, p<0.05) in the level of engagement in online discussions on security challenges in Nigeria. Thus, the study concluded that The Polytechnic Ibadan students\u27 social media use does not have any influence on security challenges in Nigeria.
