    Get PDF
The problem of tax evasion and other issues limiting maximum tax revenue collection in Nigeria is such that contemporary tax practice should encourage tax administrators to embrace Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to revolutionize tax processes and alleviate some of the difficulties associated with manual tax processing in Nigeria. This study examined tax digitalization and the problem of revenue collection in Nigeria. A descriptive research design was employed, and a sample size of 352 tax administrators was determined using the Taro Yamane formula (1967) from a population of two thousand nine hundred and thirty-two (N=2,932) operating in southwest Nigeria. Data were collected by means of an online questionnaire with a reliability test of 0.7747 > 0.70. Four hypotheses were tested using Chi square and regression analysis with the aid of an Excel sheet and SPSS. The findings revealed that Tax Digitalization has a significant relationship with Tax Revenue and also showed that Tax Digitalization has a significant effect on Tax Evasion. The study concluded that if adequate e-tax policies are implemented, and qualified and competent IT personnel are equipped, tax digitalization can curtail Tax Evasion and reduce Tax Risk to the minimum in Nigeria. According to the study, tax collectors of all quantities should invest more in ICT and embrace ICT in tax collection because it boosts Nigeria\u27s tax revenue drive. This should be accomplished by automating the entire tax filing process, from filing to receiving a tax clearance certificate, to reduce tax evasion and increase tax revenue generation

Global Trends and Paradigm Shift in Legal Research

    Get PDF
Over the years, global legal research has undergone a revolution. The advent of research revolution driven by modern day technology has prompted a wide research view as against the monolithic nature of global legal research. The issues regarding legal research have revolved around two questions: ‘How is research training best achieved? and ‘What is the nature and meaning of “legal research?’ These questions have prompted other questions, such as ‘What methodologies are most effective in achieving the aims of legal research?’ In some jurisdictions, it appears that no significant progress is being achieved in legal research. In spite of the extensive legal research carried out by researchers in those jurisdictions, the study lacked a clearly defined research direction due to the inability and failure of the legal researchers to develop it. This paper discusses the emerging trends that are reshaping the way legal research is understood, accessed, and delivered. In this era of artificial intelligence (AI), this paper explores the global trends, predictions, and challenges and suggested ways to facilitate the global development of legal research geared towards a pragmatic future of law.&nbsp

This paper explores corruption themes that are enforcement-related. The United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) is an international instrument used to prevent andcombat corrupt global practices. It was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in October 2003 and entered into force in December 2005. Nigeria, a state party to the UNCAC,signed the treaty on the 9th of December 2003 and ratified it on the 24th of October 2004. The UNCAC is yet to be domesticated in Nigeria in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution. It is apposite to note, however, that several pieces of legislation complying with different provisions of the UNCAC have been enacted into law by the National Assembly andStates Houses of Assembly, and several implementation structures have been set up in view of such legislation. The UNCAC is unique forits worldwide coverage and the scope of its provisions, which include but are not limited to preventive and punitive measures. It calls on civil societyand non-governmental organizations to participate in the accountability process. Most importantly, these organizations work together to fight corruption by making provisions for international cooperation amongst state parties

However, withthe numerous advantages, low or partial automation was found, of which several studies havebeen done to delineate the reasons. The study, adopting descriptive survey research design, investigated organizational factors as predictor for motivation to use Koha Integrated LibraryManagement Software in Southwest Universities, Nigeria. The population for this studyconsists of all the three hundred and eight (308) librarians from all the 22 libraries of universitiesin Southwest Nigeria that use Koha library management software. Adopting a qualitative approach with the use of secondary data sources such as academic journals, government reports, and media reports, the study critically analyse the impact of social media on governance in Nigeria. The study finds that social media has democratized access to information in Nigeria. The study recommends the implementation of specific laws and regulations that govern social media usage to ensure accountability and responsible behaviour online.
