RESTRUCTURING (IN) NIGERIA: IMPLICATIONS FOR BETTER SOCIETY
This paper aims at a critical evaluation of the recent clamor for political restructuring in
Nigeria and its capacity for better Nigerian society. The paper applies historical and
hermeneutical methods to understand the extent to which federalism has failed Nigeria and to
determine how restructuring can redeem the situation of Nigeria polity. Keeping track of the
stated aim, the paper studies the concept of restructuring as the adjustment of the Nigerian
political system for a better society. Also, it studies the advantages of restructuring over the
present federalism. The paper argues that the federal system in Nigeria has concentration of
powers at the federal level than the federating states. This situation promotes ethnic and
religious bigotry, hence leading to persistent agitations for restructuring, separations, e.t.c. The
study shows that the present political structure can only lead Nigeria to nowhere but doom and
instability symptomized by increasing insecurity, marginalization, corruption, e.t.c. Hence the
implication of the study shows that the current doom and instability has become so widened and
obvious enough that the corresponding agitations for restructuring becomes legitimate and a
necessity for national development. Therefore, the paper makes the case for the government to
dispassionately quicken actions towards adequate and thorough political and structural
realignment as a veritable tool for national development
Effect of Concept Mapping Instructional Strategy on Senior Secondary School Students’ Achievement in Biology in Enugu Education Zone, Enugu State, Nigeria
The study investigated the effect of concept mapping instructional strategy on secondary school
students’ achievement in biology. Two research questions and three null hypotheses guided the
study, and quasi-experimental research design was adopted. The sample for the study comprised
two hundred and forty-one (241) students drawn from the population of study in three schools in
Enugu Education Zone using multistage sampling technique. The instrument for data collection
was Biology Achievement Test (BAT). Data collected from the research questions were analyzed
using mean and standard deviation, and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) was used to test the
hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The results revealed that students taught biology using
concept mapping performed better than their counterparts taught using lecture method. Female
students had higher achievement scores than their male counterparts in biology when taught using
concept mapping. There was no significant interaction effect of instructional methods and gender
on students’ mean achievement score in biology. In line with the findings of the study, the
educational implications of the findings were highlighted; and recommendations were equally
proffered among others that science teachers should adopt concept mapping in teaching

The study examined Comparative Analysis of Democratic and Autocratic Leadership Styles and their impact on Students Academic Performance in Public Secondary Schools in Enugu State. Two research questions were developed and answered and two hypotheses formulated and tested for the study. The study adopted a descriptive survey design, an ex- facto. A total population of 4864 teachers were gathered from the total number of public secondary schools in Enugu State, and a sample of 352 teachers was used for the study. A research instrument was constructed by the researcher and used for the data collection. The instrument was validated ant its reliability established through a test re-tests method. The data obtained were analyzed using the Pearson Product Moment correlation coefficient. The results revealed that democratic leadership style positively influenced academic performance of students, autocratic leadership style was not adopted by principals’ and did not influence academic performance of students and that there is no significant difference in the mean responses of male and female teachers on the influenced of the democratic leadership style of principals on the students’ academic performance. It was recommended among others that democratic leadership style should be adopted as it promote students’ academic performance
Effectiveness of rational emotive occupational health coaching in reducing burnout symptoms among teachers of children with autism
Background/Objectives The negative impacts of Job-related burnout on job performance have
been widely documented in the literature. Burnout accounts for both physical and mental health
outcomes that increase work turnover in teachers, especially those who teach special needs chil-
dren, like those with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). The current study assessed the effect-
iveness of Rational Emotive Occupational Health Coaching (REOHC) in minimizing job burnout
amongst autistic children teachers in Anambra state, Nigeria.
Method The study used a group-randomized waitlist control trial design. teachers who teach ASD
children in private and public special and inclusive schools participated in the study. All participants
were randomly allocated to REOHC and waitlist group (WLG). REOHC group were exposed to
a single session 120 min REOHC programme every week for 12 weeks. Data were collected using
Maslach Burnout Inventory for Educators (MBI-ES), at baseline; post-intervention as well as follow-
up evaluations 1 and 2 evaluations. All the data gathered for the study were analysed using mean,
Standard Deviation (SD), t-test statistics, repeated measures ANOVA, and charts.
Results Results indicated a significant decrease in teachers’ burnout, following REOHC interven-
tion, which was sustained through follow-ups 1 and 2.
Conclusion In conclusion, we stated that REOHC is valuable in treating burnout symptoms in
teachers of children with ASDs
Job Design and Organizational Citizenship Behaviour in Selected Financial Institutions in Makurdi Metropolis, Benue State
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of job design on organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) in selected financial institutions in Makurdi metropolis. The study examined how job autonomy, skill variety, task identity, task significance, and job feedback affect organizational citizenship behavior. The survey research design was utilized in conducting the research. Meanwhile, 252 respondents from selected financial institutions in Makurdi metropolis participated, and 231 valid responses were received. Data were collected via questionnaires with the test of hypotheses done using multiple regression analysis, with the aid of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS 23). The results revealed that organizational citizenship behavior is significantly affected by job design attributes including autonomy, skill variety, job feedback and task significance. However, task identity had a negative but insignificant effect on OCB. It was recommended, among other things, that managers ensure that their employees have sufficient autonomy at work. Moreover, managers should ensure that employees receive appropriate and timely feedback about their performance
United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 16 and Justice Administration in Nigeria: A Political Economy Approach
The Nigerian State is one that is in dire need of justice as a precondition for the peace and
development it so much desires. In Nigeria, justice is highly commoditised, as it is made
available to the highest bidder. This is the root of chaos and underdevelopment. Interestingly,
Nigeria, being one of the nations that signed up for the SDGs, is seen to be progressively
retrogressing in attaining the goals seven years on. SDG 16 (particularly targets 3, 5 and 6), the
particular focus of this article, has not being given a pride of place in the Nigerian society.
Building of strong institutions and fair justice administration, has been poor in Nigeria. This has
inadvertently, created conditions of violence and underdevelopment in the State. In light of this,
the study examines the political and economic forces that have made justice an elusive
commodity for the common man, leading to the undermining of peace and development in
Nigeria. Adopting the documentary method of data collection and political economy approach,
the study found that the quest for peace and development in Nigeria has remained a pipe dream
because of the high level of injustice prevalent in the State. The study therefore concludes and
recommends that for peace and development to be attained in Nigeria, justice (SDG 16) must be
a sine qua non in all levels of human interactions in the State
Good Governance and Purposive Followership: An Evaluation of Nigeria's Peace and Security Woes
This paper seeks to examine the role of good governance and active followership in nation building. Good governance and purposive followership are two sides of a coin or twin germane concept that would address Nigeria’s malaise of ethnic strife and tension, bedeviling her. In fact, they are the most important concepts that would ensure that the country comes out of her current progressive regression. However, it is the hypothesis of this study that the concept of good governance may not yield its desired fruits unless it is traded alongside that of a purposive and constructive followership. The study has adopted structural-functionalism theory to unearth the philosophical underpinnings on why peace and security have been elusive in Nigeria. The paper chiefly relied on the use of documentary method of data collection, adopting a qualitative descriptive and historical method of analysis. In light of the above, the paper found that the reason for the voluble call for restructuring of the polity (though fraught with mere rhetorics), is as a result of the political aloofness of the ruling class and non-inclusive policies and actions of government. The paper, therefore concludes and recommends that Nigerians must wake up from their passive and docile behavior towards government actions and policies, acting beyond rhetorics, if they truly want a nation-state they can call their own
ANALYSIS OF FORENSIC INVESTIGATIONS AND VALUE OF STOCK IN INSURANCE COMPANIES IN NIGERIA
The objective of this study is: to analyse the relationship between forensic investigation skills and value of stock in
insurance companies in Nigeria. In doing this, the study focused on insurance companies that are listed in the NSE
as the year ended 2020. This study purposively selected seventeen (17) insurance companies in Nigeria for a period
of ten years, that is, 2011-2020. A multi-regression analysis of panel data was used as the analysis tool which
reveals that forensic audit and litigation has no significant effect on tax frauds prevention in oil companies in
Nigeria. However, the study clearly concludes that there is a significant positive association between forensic
investigation skills and value of stock in insurance companies in Nigeria. Based on this therefore this study
recommends that agencies or units concerned with forensic investigation analysis should improve on the frauds
detection skills by deploying computer and electronic based technology that will be able to identify, summarize and
presents any fraud that may occur in the financial records of the companies
INFLUENCE OF COVID-19 PANDEMIC ON HATE SPEECH AND FAKE NEWS IN ENUGU STATE
This study examined the influence of COVID-19 pandemic on hate speech and fake
news in Enugu State. This work was motivated by the increasing rate of spread of hate
speech and fake news in Nigeria following COVID-19 pandemic. The spread of the
virus appeared to be matched by the rise in incidence of misinformation and hate
speech directed at individuals of Chinese or Asian descent. The main objectives of the
study are to ascertain the influence of COVID-19 pandemic on spread of fake news
and hate speech in Enugu State; to determine the extent the pandemic contributed to
stigmatization of people, and to find out the general problems that affected objectivity
in news reporting during the pandemic. The study used survey research design and was
hinged on three theories namely; Theory of Rumour Transmission, Source-credibility
Theory and Elaboration of Likelihood Model. In determining the sample size, Wimmer
and Dominick Online Sample Size calculator was used to get a sample size of 384 from
the target population of 4,411,119. Questionnaire was used to collect information from
the respondents using purposive sampling technique. The findings revealed that the
spread of the virus has led to the deluge of hate speech, fake news and stigmatization
of certain individuals. The researchers recommended that states take appropriate steps
to combat misinformation through robust public enlightenment including public service announcements among other measures to control this trend of misinformation and
disinformation which may fuel discrimination and violence.

INFORMATION TRANSMISSION AND CHALLENGES OF NATIONAL SECURITY: A CRITICAL ANALYSIS
The essence of communication is information transmission; and the effect of communication is the utilization of information for effective and efficient action. When a communicated piece of information is well processed and utilized, by a political system, it
results in policy outcomes as proactive means of solving security problems. Nigeria’s
insecurity, especially in the past two decades has been on the increase with a wide
network of insecurity agents successfully communicating attack notices and executing
same in all parts of the country. The paper combined Karl W. Deutsch’s Communication Theory and David Easton’s Systems Theory to examine the quality of security
output the political system in Nigeria communicates back to the masses as a feedback.
Documentary method of data collection and content analysis were used to access relevant extant cases of insecurity. The paper found that the Nigerian state is overwhelmed
by the rising cases of insecurity in the country, and the political system has not sufficiently processed the security demands of citizens. The paper recommended improved
intelligence in the approach to insecurity cases in Nigeria. This could be achieved via
friendlier and less militarized relationship between the law enforcement agents and the
civilian masses
