    No full text
The study looked at the resource issues in implementing the History curriculum in secondary schools in Enugu State, Nigeria, following the COVID-19 pandemic. Two research questions served as the study's guiding principles. The study employed a descriptive survey research design. The population of the study consisted of 34 teachers of History from the 28 secondary schools in the 6 education zones. Data were gathered using two instruments: the History Curriculum Questionnaire (HCQ) and the History Instruction Material Checklist (HIMC). The study's questions were answered using frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviation. The findings of the study showed that the identified innovative educational resources were moderately available in schools. In addition, teachers’ utilization of the available innovative educational resources in the teaching and learning process was to a low extent. It was recommended that stakeholders in the education sector should help provide more innovative educational resources for effective teaching and learning. Furthermore, that teachers of History should be exposed to regular seminars and workshops to be abreast with most current technological innovations in teaching and learning of History. No full text
The Igbo environment is one of the geo- political zones in Nigeria. Nigeria is a country currently known with high level of crime and inhuman activities. The problem which this paper laments bitterly against is that in the midst of insecurity challenges facing the country, the act of kidnapping and child trafficking have seemingly become uncontrollable irrespective of the immense forces applied by the anti-kidnapping squad of the Nigeria police Force, especially in Igbo traditional religions environment. The research therefore intends to address this aspect of insecurity menace happening in traditional religious society of the Igbo, where God and the gods are overwhelming believed to fight crimes and inhuman actions. It is found that the Igbo traditional religious practices are still active in fighting crimes and inhumanity but the younger adherents have not sincerely and obviously dedicated adequate attention and time to the rules and concerns of the Igbo traditional belief system. It is also discovered that experts in educational management, guidance and counseling have not given adequate attention to enforcing, teaching, counseling and formulation of curriculum and policies within and outside educational scenes to address the young people’s understanding of the world around them through discipline. It is recommended that traditional religious practitioners should adopt completely the traditional means of fighting crimes without fear or favour, the sacredness of life should be prime against any other thing, educational managers and guidance counselors should try to arouse the attention of the Igbo people towards the future implications of the existing criminality and inhumanity in kidnapping and child trafficking. The paper employs sociological approach. Data were collected from primary and secondary sources. Data collected were analyzed with descriptive style of analyzing data

Assessment of the background ionizing radiations (BIRs) levels of twenty selected mobile phone base stations to ascertain their radiological health risks was undertaken using the Radalert 100 radiation monitor and a Geographical Positioning System (Garmin etrex 10). An in-situ measurement of the (BIRs) in air at 1.0 meter above ground level was carried out at twenty different telecommunication base stations in Enugu metropolis. The mean BIR levels of the studied masts ranged from 0.0489 to 0.2306 µSv/h, and ten were higher than the ICRP recommended safe limit of 0.13 µSvh1 (0.013mR/h) while the BIRs of the remaining ten were lower than the ICRP permissible standard. The estimated values of absorbed dose rate (ADR) ranged from 8.78nGy/h to 200.62nGy/h, ten also were above ICRP permissible limit of 84nGy/h, while ten fell below ICRP standard. In as much as the mean ADR of BIR levels of the ten masts were higher than the ICRP safety limit, it does not result to any instant radiological risk, evidenced by their estimated Annual effective dose equivalent (AEDE) values ranging from 0.011 to 0.246 mSv/y, all lower than the ICRP permissible limits of 1 mSvy-1 . For the associated excess lifetime cancer risk (ELCR), their values ranged from 0.038 ×10-3 to 0.861 ×10-3 . Thirteen were observed to exceed the UNSCEAR recommended value of 0.29×10-3 , suggesting therefore, high probability of base station workers developing cancer or radiation-related ailments from the ages of 65 years and above. In as much as the studied base stations do not create immediate hazard both to human health and the environment, the result showed they undoubtedly do on the long run. It is recommended that consistent radiological checks be maintained, and the data taken as a radiological reference point for telecommunication masts in Enugu State

The rise of monkeypox has become a global issue and the social media have continued to serve as a veritable platform for the dissemination of information on monkeypox. Despite this, public awareness on the disease seems to be low. To this end, this study sought to find out how social media has been used to create awareness about monkeypox and how it has influenced the knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) of social media users in Southeast, Nigeria. This study adopted the health belief model. Using the Cochran formula, a sample size of 380 was derived from the estimated population of 6,580, 000 social media users. The multi-stage sampling procedure was used in the selection of respondents. The findings of this study disclosed that social media users in Southeast, Nigeria are highly aware of monkeypox viral infection alongside the awareness campaign on social media. Whatsapp among other social media platform emerged as the major source of information on monkeypox closely followed by Facebook. The respondents thus showed a wide knowledge and positive attitude toward monkeypox however their practice towards its detection, prevention and treatment was relatively low. The researchers thus recommended that health agencies should use all social media platforms to create awareness of monkeypox and other health related matters. Social media users should endeavour to go for monkeypox screening test even when they do not feel sick

Justifying the Ground for Philosophical Involvement in the Search for Environmental Sustainability

    Get PDF
The UN’s call for environmental sustainability emphasizes the precarious condition of the earth’s environment in our time. This paper considers this as a litmus test for checking the applicability of philosophy in concrete situations and practical areas of human need, in reaction to those who regard it as obsolete. This paper therefore sets to address these twin questions: what is the actual state of the earth’s environments, and can philosophy be relevant to human situations? The paper pursues its twin aim of deepening our ecological knowledge and ascertaining the relevance of philosophy. The UN set Millennial goal on environmental sustainability (MDG-7) is used for illustration. It is analytical in nature. Its finding(s) will be useful to all readers, students, environmentalists and policy makers alike

    No full text
The African migrants in China are being subjected to precarious human rights abuse arising from the state repression and racial discriminations, which came to the spotlight during the Covid-19 pandemic. Although the international media bodies and the social media reported cases of xenophobic attacks on African nationals in China during the coronavirus outbreak, there exist inadequate empirical documentation and systematic analysis of the incidents by scholars. Thus, the study examined the nexus between human rights violations and xenophobic attacks on African migrants in China during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Methodologically, we adopted the state repression theory as our theoretical framework; ex-post facto research design; documentary method of data collection; and qualitative descriptive method of data analysis. The study found that China’s disregard for the human rights of African migrants accounted for the xenophobic attacks on African community in China during the Covid-19 pandemic. The study recommended among others that there is the need for Chinese state to implement legislations and policies that will protect and safeguard the human rights of African migrants in China

Stratified proportionate random sampling technique was used to get the sample size. Structured questionnaire was used to collect data from the eight hundred and seventy (870) respondents that comprised of 273 principals and 597 teachers from the two hundred and seventy-three (273) Secondary Schools in Enugu State, Nigeria. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions. The hypothesis was tested with z-test statistic at .05 level of significance. The study revealed that skill of staff involvement in decision making was poorly applied by principals in Secondary School administration.
