Influence of Divorce on the Academic Performance of Primary School Pupils in Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, Nigeria
No full textThe study x-rayed the influence of divorce on the academic performance of primary school pupils in Enugu East Local Government Area, Enugu State. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. Two research questions and one research hypothesis guided the study. The total population of the study was 831 Primary six pupils in 23 primary schools in the study area. The sample size for this study was 249 Primary six pupils. The researchers used simple random sampling technique to select the sample of the study. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection and was face validated by three specialists in measurement & evaluation, curriculum studies, and guidance and counselling. The overall reliability index of 0.78 was determined using Cronbach Alpha. The research questions were answered using mean and standard deviation while independent sample t-test statistics was used in testing the hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. The study found that pupils from divorced parents faced educational challenges like lack of sufficient textbooks, poor academic performance and lack of concentration while in school. It was recommended among other things that teachers should handle with care pupils from families that the parents are divorced, and encourage them in their academic work
IN THE SPIRIT OF THE LITURGY: Inculturation of the Roman Liturgy and its Chants in Nigeria
Get PDFThe church holds in high esteem the Latin chants and accords them a prime of place in her
liturgy, especially when celebrated in Latin. It is the music proper to the Roman rite. However,
in her Vatican II’s Constitution on the Liturgy Sacrosanctum Concilium, the church allowed
the use of good and suitable music styles from other cultures in her liturgy. This conciliar
gesture gave rise to the upsurge of the so-called indigenous musical compositions that were
sometimes good for liturgy and at other times inadequate and theologically bankrupt. Today,
the practice of using only the indigenous liturgical music in the liturgy has relegated the
traditional Roman rite practice of singing antiphons at Mass. This article calls for a rediscovery
of the rich theological treasures in the traditional Latin chants. It suggests the translation of
many of the Latin antiphons of the Mass into Igbo and the production of its common standard
text. Thus, the vernacular texts become a principal source for liturgical music composition in
Igboland. Thus, in the spirit of the liturgy, a balance will be struck between the tradition and
modernity, between the substantial unity of the Roman rite and the legitimate cultural
variations
The Coverage of the 2022 Flood Disasters by Three Nigerian Daily Newspapers
Get PDFThe researcher selected three national dailies, namely, The Punch, The
Leadership and The Vanguard, to examine their coverage of the 2022 flood
disasters in Nigeria. The objectives of the study were to know how often the
selected dailies covered the 2022 flood stories/items in Nigeria, to find out how
the selected dailies generated stories on the 2022 flood, to ascertain the directions
of their coverage on the flood and examine the type of coverage given to the 2022
flood in the selected dailies. The content analysis method of research was used
and the instruments for data collection were the three national dailies. The
researcher covered 252 issues and got 41 items on flood during his study. The
findings show that 19 of them were straight news, 11 were features, 4 were
letter/opinion articles, and seven were editorial. This shows that the coverage was
insufficient, and most of the coverage was carried out in the straight news format.
Therefore, the researcher recommends greater coverage of the climate stories in a
manner other than straight news format for more detailed insights

Development financing is a vital necessity for the sustainability of tourism in any economy. The supply of finance to various tourism sectors such as NTDC, Enugu State Tourism Board, hotels, transportation and event management will promote the growth of the economy in a holistic manner, thus attracting tourists at any destination and increasing the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The CBN development initiative involves the formulation and implementation of various policies, innovation of appropriate product brands and creation of enabling environment for financial institutions to deliver services in an effective, efficient and sustainable manner. Before the advocacy for tourism development in Nigeria, the initiatives were mainly targeted at the agricultural sector, rural development and micro small and medium enterprises. UTILIZATION OF BLENDED- LEARNING TECHNIQUES BY BUSINESS EDUCATION LECTURERS IN TEACHING IN POST COVID-19 PANDEMIC: EVIDENCE OF GODFREY OKOYE UNIVERSITY, ENUGU, NIGERIA
Get PDFThis study focuses on Business Education lecturers’ utilization of Blended - Learning Techniques in the Post Covid -19 pandemic at Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu Nigeria. The objective of this study was to determine the extent Business Education lecturers in Godfrey Okoye University utilize blended learning techniques in teaching in this post COVID-19 pandemic era. Descriptive survey research design was utilized. The population of the study consists of thirty-one (31) lecturers teaching Business Education students in Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu. The whole population was studied. Two research questions and two null hypotheses guided the study. Instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire titled “Util ization of Blended Learning Techniques by Business Education Lecturers” (UBLTBEL)) developed by the researchers. A Cronbach Alpha reliability index of 0.75 was obtained. The research questions were answered using mean and standard deviation. Hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance using t-test statistic. The research results revealed that Business Education lecturer s utilize Blended learning to a high extent in teaching during post COVID-19 pandemic. Some hindrances to effective utilization of blended learning by business education lecturers were identified, which include poor internet connectivity, lack of ICT skills, lack of proper digital services, and poor electricity. The result of null hypothesis one reveals that there is no significant difference in the extent of utilization of blended learning by Business Education lecturers based on gender. Therefore, the null hypothesis was accepted. The results of the null hypothesis two reveals that there is no significant difference between the mean responses of male and female Business Education lecturers of Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, on challenges to effective utilization of blended in teaching in post COVID-19 pandemic era. The null hypothesis two was accepted. It was recommended that Business Education lecturers of Godfrey Okoye University Enugu should strive to acquire more digital skills and knowledge to enhance their application of blended learning techniques in teaching their students. The university should endeavor to provide the necessary Information and communication technology (I C T) facilities needed for effective utilization of blended learning techniques in teaching and learning during this post covid - 19 era
Availability of Instructional Materials for Teaching of Accounting Education in Selected Universities in Enugu State, Nigeria
Get PDFThe study looked at the resources available at a few Enugu state universities for teaching
accounting education. The research design for the study was survey-based. The questionnaire that
the researchers created was the research tool that was utilized to gather data. The population for
the study during the 2021–2022 academic session consisted of 100 accounting education teachers.
Due to the study's modest size, the entire population was studied. The study was led by two
hypotheses. Frequency analysis was used to address the study issues, and t-test statistics was
employed to assess the hypotheses at the 0.05 level of significance. The results of the study showed
that the availability of instructional materials in Business-Accounting Education is hampered by
inadequate maintenance, bad instructor attitudes toward facility management, and inferior
materials. According to the report, universities should be encouraged by the government to modify
their curricula to reflect the evolving needs of students in terms of technology and instructional
resources. Modern technology and instructional resources are essential components of effective
education, and educators should take advantage of them. To enhance the teaching of accounting
education, key and essential instructional resources should be made available by the government,
business organizations, parents, educators, and institutions
