Soil quality refers to soils’ ability to promote biological productivity, preserve envi ronmental quality, and advance fauna and flora health within the constraint of an ecosystem. The quality of soil is not limited to its agroecosystem productivity in terms of supporting plant growth; it also encompasses the natural ecosystem of sustaining biodiversity and environmental quality such as water purification, carbon sequestration, etc. (Bünemann et al. 2018). The chemical, physical and biological features of soil account for its general quality. Environmental disturbances such as drought, salinity, pollution, climate changes as well as human activities which include agriculture adversely impact soil quality which subsequently results to land degradation, loss of soil fertility, and biodiversity. Low/poor soil quality can be attributed to different physical, chemical, and biological degradation due to climate change, pollution, erosion, drought, salinity, soil compaction, decline in soil biod

Rapid paradigm shift has been on-going in education of recent due to the utilization of innovative Technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT) which has transformed the educational landscape and hold potentials for improving teaching and learning processes. The IoT technologies are nowadays assumed to be one of the key pillars of the fourth industrial revolution due to its significant potentials in innovations and useful benefits both education and other spheres. However, there are arguments that utilization of IoT in tertiary institutions in developing countries is lagging. The study investigated the utilization of IoT by lecturers in four public tertiary institutions in Enugu State, Nigeria. Mixed-method research design consisting of both quantitative and qualitative approaches was adopted for the study. The population of this study was 65 Computer Science Education Lecturers from the institutions and census sampling was used. The study was guided by three research questions and the instruments for data collection were a structured questionnaire and digital phone recorder. Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient of 0.85 was established. Quantitative data were analyzed using mean and standard deviation while the qualitative data were analyzed according to the research questions. The results revealed that the level of utilization of IoT by lecturers in Public Tertiary Institutions in Enugu State was low. Also, there was a notable gap in awareness among the lecturers, with limited exposure to IoT technologies for educational purposes. However, lecturers’ knowledge gap on the use of IoT, limited infrastructure, lack of training/skills and data privacy concerns were identified as the factors mitigating the utilization of IoT by Computer Education Lecturers

    No full text
For enhanced learning outcomes that meet the entrepreneurial needs of the learner and that of society, innovation is relevant in the planning and organizing of content, learning objectives, pedagogical approaches, and educational resources used in teaching and learning. Clear learning objectives, sequencing, assessment alignment, integration of 21stcentury knowledge skills, and inclusivity address the educational needs of the learner. Placing the learner at the centre of the learning process is what 21stcentury society demands. Since we are in the wake of the fourth industrial revolution; the period of artificial intelligence, the traditional ways of involving learners in the classroom need to be upgraded. Learners need to be empowered to take an active role in their education. This involves the need for innovation in the design of the curriculum and how the teaching and learning process is carried out. Student-centred instruction recognizes that students should be active in learning, have creative and critical thinking skills, have a collaborative spirit regarding learning, and develop the spirit of critical inquiry. This is the need for this theoretical study. There is a need for innovation when designing courses taught in universities. To meet the needs of the learner and society in this fourth industrial revolution, the injection of creative problem-solving skills; a key to entrepreneurial spirit goes a long way in helping the learner to be useful to self and society

This study examined the effect of service marketing strategies on customer satisfaction in Southeast, Nigeria. The research used Yamane’s formula for a finite population to determine a sample of 400 respondents from 25,797,612 adult bank customers. Average Variance Extracted and Cronbach’s Alpha were used to test the validity and reliability of a structured questionnaire. The research data were analyzed with standard multiple regression. The study determined a positive statistical influence of service process and communication on customer satisfaction. On the contrary, service features, service charges, service encounters, service participation, and service evidence had no statistical influence on customer satisfaction. The result implied that a unit increase in the flexibility of bank services and an increase in bank-customer contact increased the level of customer satisfaction. The research also suggested that for every unit increase in service options; service channels; customer involvement; service facilities; and a reduction in service charge, there was no increase in satisfaction of Southeast Bank customers. Therefore, the research recommended that banks should develop a customer-friendly service system that can reduce service time and increase service turnover. Bank managers were also advised to intensify efforts to provide financial information that enables customers to make informed decisions

    No full text
Climate change has continued to pose a huge threat to humanity as both lives and livelihoods are subjected to its effects globally. Consequently, the United Nations have rallied state actors annually since 1994 to seek ways of mitigating the adverse effects of climate change. A major outcome of these meetings is the Paris Agreement of 2015. Part of the provisions of this agreement is the commitment by the industrialized countries to provide USD100 billion annual intervention to the developing countries, to facilitate the achievement of their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) targets. The extent to which Nigeria has accessed these interventions from the industrialized countries and the development partners towards achieving these NDC targets is the focus of this study. The study therefore was guided by this research question: how have the climate change interventions from donor agencies and development partners impacted Nigeria’s sustainable economic development? Descriptive Research design was adopted for the study. The documentary method of data collection and content analytical method were used to generate and analyze data for this study. The study found that interventions accessed by the Nigerian state came predominantly as foreign loans. These loans imposed heavy debt burdens on the country’s economy. The study recommends that Nigeria should be inventive and inward looking in her quest for sustainable development

Boko Haram-Induced Forced Migration: Implications for Social and Economic Development in the Lake Chad Basin

    No full text
In Africa, and notably the Lake Chad Basin (LCB), Boko Haram is a major threat to human security. The region, which spans 427,500 km2 and contains large ungoverned areas, is made up of Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad, and Niger. Boko Haram has been responsible for several attacks in Northeast Nigeria since 2003 and is also the leading cause of forced migration in the Lake Chad Basin. In northeastern Nigeria and other LCB countries, this insurgency has caused widespread migration and increased the humanitarian crisis, socio-economic, and environmental consequences. This research aims to examine the developmental challenges emerging from Boko Haram-induced forced displacement in the LCB. Empirical evidence suggests that the Lake Chad Basin countries’ governments have failed to contain this group's aggression. However, there are still gaps in the literature regarding how this insurgency has affected social and economic lives of displaced people in the region. The study utilized a case study design, documentary method of data collection, and content analysis as the analytical technique. The study applies the Human Security Theory and Regional Security Complex Theory (RSCT) as the theoretical framework. Ultimately, the findings of this study revealed that forced migration severs social ties, leading to economic, social, and psychological impacts, including family separation and loss, with families often split up abruptly due to attacks and evacuation. In Addition, negative economic impacts disproportionately affect impoverished individuals, exacerbating chronic poverty and hindering their ability to escape poverty due to price volatility and wage declines. It was recommended that the governments of Lake Chad Basin countries should develop and implement policies that support the economic integration of refugees and displaced individuals, including measures to facilitate access to employment and promoting self-reliance and resilience. They should also foster initiatives that strengthen social ties and networks among displaced populations to facilitate integration into host communities and mitigate the negative impacts of social disconnection
