Self-Concept and Body Image Satisfaction as Predictors of Fear of Negative Evaluation Among Undergraduate Students
The study investigated self-concept and body dissatisfaction as predictors of fear of negative
evaluation, with one hundred and forty-eight (148) undergraduate students comprises of
comprise eighty-two (82) and sixty-six males (66) with a mean age of 21.63 and SD of 2.40140
drawn using multi-stage (cluster, simple random: by balloting and purposive) sampling
techniques as participants from five faculties in Enugu State University of Science and
Technology, Enugu. Fear of Negative Evaluation (FNE) scale, Robson Self Concept
Questionnaire and Body Image and Action Questionnaire (BIAQ) were used for data
collection, with a correlational design being adopted, while multiple hierarchy regressions
were used for data analysis. Findings show that self-concept Stβ= -.491*** and t= -6.315***
at p< .001 negatively predicted fear of negative evaluation. Also, body image satisfaction Stβ=
-.099 and t= -1.266 at p< .05 failed to predict fear of negative evaluation but bears a negative
interaction with it. Body image satisfaction and self-concept r =.526 are related to fear of
negative evaluation, both independent variables contributed 27.7% variation to fear of
negative evaluation at r= .277, and they jointly predicted fear of negative evaluation at p<
.001. Hence, clinicians should work towards assisting students to have a positive image and
perception of themselves to reduce the fear of negative evaluatio
HOPE AND EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AS PREDICTORS OF PRO-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS
CONTEMPORARY SOCIAL PROBLEMS
Meaning of Social Problem
Social problem is relative to time and place. What constitutes a social problem at one time in history may be normal at another time. What constitutes a society problem in one society may be normal in another society. This is because what constitutes a social problem in any society and at any point in time depends on the people’s attitude and changing norms and values.
A social problem is defined as a situation or condition which competent observers define as undesirable and therefore advocate that something positive be done to eradicate it in other words, people must define a situation as a social problem before it could be regarded as a social problem “A social problem is defined as a condition affecting a significant number of people in-ways, considered undesirable, about which it is felt that something can be done through collective social action,” Horton & Leslie (2015).
A social problem is any condition or behavior that has negative consequences for large numbers of people and that is generally recognized as a condition or behavior that needs to be addressed. There is both an objective and a subjective aspect to this definition (Robinson, 2011). Ultimately, Surette (2018) argues, social problems are the result of systemic flaws that reflect and exacerbate preexisting disparities in terms of socioeconomic status, race, gender, and other dimensions of social stratification
INFLUENCE OF INSTAGRAM LIFESTYLE POSTS ON MENTAL HEALTH BEHAVIOUR AMONG YOUNG INSTAGRAM USERS IN ENUGU METROPO-LIS
It has been observed that most young people are constantly being exposed to lifestyle posts
made by others on Instagram which either have an effect on them or not; it is against this
backdrop that this study seeks to examine the influence of Instagram lifestyle posts on mental
health behaviour among young Instagram users in Enugu metropolis. Technologi-cal
Determinism Theory and Social Comparison Theory formed the theoretical basis of the study.
Using the survey research method, the questionnaire was deployed to elicit in-formation from
undergraduates from Godfrey Okoye University (GO-UNI) and Enugu State University of
Science and Technology (ESUT). Findings from the study revealed that the students are highly
exposed to lifestyle posts on Instagram; these posts influence their attitude as they indicated
that the posts reflect their actual standard of living. This is as their exposure to these posts
promotes downward self-social comparison of their own lifestyle with the lifestyles being
posted. The study recommends among other things that parents and other institutions of
socialization should begin to sensitise young people as they need proper education on how to
perceive and react to lifestyle posts on Instagram and other social media platforms as most of
those posts are exaggerated

IMPACT OF INFLATION AND STAGFLATION ON ECONOMIC GROWTH IN NIGERIA
The aim of this study is to analyze the influence of inflation and Stagflation on the economic
growth of Nigeria from 2012 to 2024. The Nigerian economy is experiencing stagflation which
describes the combination of slow economic growth, high unemployment, and high inflation. In
an attempt to examine the influence of inflation and Stagflation on the growth prospects of the
Nigerian economy, the study employs the autoregressive distributed lag on the selected variables,
i.e. real gross domestic product (GDP), inflation rate, interest rate, exchange rate, degree of
economy`s openness, money supply, and government consumption expenditures for the period.
The study findings indicate that inflation and stagflation has a significant negative impact on
economic growth, while other variables in the model depict no influence on the economic growth
of Nigeria. However, inflation and the degree of openness show no causal relationship with gross
domestic product. As a result, the study recommends that a more pragmatic effort is needed by
the monetary authorities to target the inflation vigorously to prevent its adverse effect by
ensuring a tolerable rate that would stimulate the economic growth. Intuitively, the appropriate
policies for intervening in this economic condition should seek to stimulate both supply and
demand
STRATEGIC PLANNING COMPETENCIES UTILIZED BY PRINCIPALS IN MANAGING EMERGING ISSUES IN PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN ENUGU STATE, NIGERIA
Abstract:
The study examined the strategic planning competencies utilized by principals in
managing emerging issues in public secondary schools in Enugu State. Two research
questions and two null hypotheses were formulated. The study adopted a descriptive
survey research design. The target population comprised 462 respondents which made
up of all the 231 principals and 231 vice-principals in the public secondary schools in
Enugu State. The instrument for data collection was a researcher-developed
questionnaire, structured on a 4-point rating scale that ranged from very high extent to
very low extent. It was validated by two experts, one in Educational Administration and
Planning and the other in Measurement and Evaluation, Godfrey Okoye University,
Enugu. The test-retest method of reliability of the instrument was used and the data
obtained were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation and yielded a
correlation coefficient of 0.85. Mean and standard deviation were used in answering the
research questions. The t-test was used in testing the hypotheses at a 0.05 level of
significance. The findings showed that principals utilized strategic planning
competencies to a low extent going by the mean ratings of principals and vice-principals.
There were also no significant differences between the mean ratings of principals and
vice principals on their utilization of the strategic planning competencies. Poor utilization
of strategic planning competencies by principals implies that it is either that principals
were not adequately trained and prepared to strategically manage schools for effective
results or that the training they received was no longer adequate to meet the challenges
of emerging issues in secondary school management. It was thus, recommended among

Interrogating Chinese going global policy in Nigeria: Implications for Neo colonialism
The study sets out to examine Chinese going global policy in Nigeria in the context of the four
key strategic objectives of the policy- resource seeking, market seeking, asset seeking and political gains-
and how these have had some neo-colonial ramifications on the Nigerian state, based on the degree to
which the Nigerian state asserts its agency in its relations with the Chinese State. By adopting a
qualitative case study research design, documentary method of data collection, and theory of neo
colonialism, the study discovered that Chinese infrastructure aid and investment packages to Nigeria have
aided the achievement of the Chinese strategic objectives in its going global policy to the detriment of
Nigeria’s political and economic independence in a neo-colonial fashion, with little or no remediation from
the Nigerian state or its agency. The study concludes and recommends that China and other great powers
will continue to have a neo-colonial experimentation with Nigeria if it fails to assert its agency with such
powers
INTEGRATING COMPUTER-ASSISTED INSTRUCTION IN QUANTITATIVE REASONING IN MIDDLE BASIC EDUCATION: AN IMPERATIVE TO REPOSITIONING EDUCATION FOR THE 4TH INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION
As the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) ushers in rapid technological advancements, the ability of
pupils to engage in self-directed learning becomes increasingly crucial. To address the evolving educational
landscape, this study investigates the impact of Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) on enhancing the
quantitative reasoning skills of middle school pupils. CAI is a method that leverages computers for instruction,
progress tracking, and feedback. The research, conducted in the Enugu Education Zone of Enugu State, employed
a quasi-experimental design, targeting 8924 middle basic two pupils across 98 schools during the 2019/2020
academic session. A sample of 490 pupils was selected using stratified, purposive, and simple random sampling
techniques. The study utilized the Quantitative Reasoning Achievement Test (QRAT), a validated 40-item
multiple-choice test with a reliability coefficient of 0.77 (KR-20). Data were analyzed using mean, standard
deviation, and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) at a 0.05 significance level. The findings indicate that pupils
taught using CAI outperformed those taught through traditional methods. The study recommends the uniform
implementation of CAI across schools in the Enugu Education Zone to standardize learning outcomes and ensure
equitable instruction in quantitative reasoning amid the 4IR
Theory Issues in Separation of Powers in Nigeria: Implications for Democratic Consolidation
The debate on the principle of separation of powers is an age long concern. Over the years, scholars and
laymen have come to accept that what guarantees liberty of citizens and responsibility in governance is the
practice of separation of powers. However, the frictions and disruptions in governance occasioned by the frequent
standoff between the executive and the legislature have brought to the fore the need to investigate how Nigeria
has fared as regards separation of powers and checks and balances. This paper is therefore an attempt to match
the theory and practice of separation of powers and checks and balances in the Nigerian context. The paper sought
to examine the extent to which separation of powers contributed to consolidation of democracy in Nigeria;
determine the factors affecting separation of powers in consolidation of democracy in Nigeria; and ascertain the
extent to which checks and balance contributed to effective management of separation of powers for consolidation
of democracy in Nigeria. The research found that separation of powers appears not to operate any legal restriction
on power but, it provides the basis for important principles which the law protects such as independence of the
judiciary. It provides a basis for the adoption of structure processes and control which protects liberty now and in
the future. It guards against broad spectrum of the ills like absurd judgement avaricious and ambitious self-serving
behaviour and inefficient performances of functions. As our system of government evolves new conventions,
political practices and events at times new legal rules will need to be devised to protect the liberty of the people
and our nascent democracy. The doctrine of separation of powers therefore provides the justification for these
measures and helps to determine their nature and scope. Apparently, there is the need to monitor our political
system, be vigilant about our liberty and advocate new measures when the liberty is threatened. The research
recommended that the Nigerian state should adhere to the theory of separation of powers as it is the practice in
other democratic states of the world taken account of our historical past and the urgent need to modernize where
necessary. Only this can bring about lasting political stability
