NEXUS BETWEEN PHYSICAL CONDITIONS OF HOUSING UNITS AND RESIDENTS’ SATISFACTION IN PRIVATE HOUSING ESTATES IN ENUGU METROPOLIS, NIGERIA
The objective of this study was to examine the nexus between physical conditions of housing units
and residents’ satisfaction in private housing estates in Enugu metropolis with a view to providing
feedback for improved housing satisfaction. The data presented in this paper were drawn from a
bigger research project designed to assess level of residents’ satisfaction in private housing
estates in Enugu State, Nigeria. The methodology adopted for this research was survey design.
The research population was the private housing estates located in Enugu metropolis; focus was
on four private housing estates randomly selected from the research population. After
stratification that was based on building type, two hundred and fifty-six occupied housing units
were randomly selected. Data was collected from primary sources using questionnaires. Findings
from the research show that there is no significant relationship between housing conditions and
level of residents’ satisfaction with state of repair of the building in the private housing estates in
Enugu metropolis. Housing estate developers and managers should device supervisory means as
part of the housing development programme to ensure that occupants other than owner-occupiers
do not let the dwelling unit to dilapidate to ensure sound state of repair of buildings. The study
concludes that private housing developers should ensure that the type of components used in the
buildings fit in to the income status of the occupants to ensure that they can be maintained
adequately. It is vital that this provision is made during the building design and construction
stages
Phytochemical composition, toxicity assessment, and hepatorenal effects of methanol extracts of Vitex doniana Leaves in Plasmodium berghei-infected mice
Background: Malaria, caused by Plasmodium parasites, remains a significant public health
concern in tropical regions, including Nigeria. The increasing resistance of Plasmodium
species to conventional antimalarial drugs necessitates the search for alternative therapies
from medicinal plants. Vitex doniana is traditionally used for malaria treatment, but its
biochemical effects remain underexplored. This study investigates the phytochemical
composition, toxicity, and hepatorenal effects of methanol extracts of V. doniana leaves in
Plasmodium berghei-infected mice.
Methods: Preliminary qualitative and quantitative phytochemical analyses were conducted
to identify bioactive constituents. Acute toxicity (LD₅₀) was assessed up to 5000 mg/kg
body weight. P. berghei-infected mice were treated with V. doniana extract, and hepatorenal
parameters, including liver enzyme activities (ALT, AST, ALP), total bilirubin, kidney
function markers (urea, creatinine), and serum electrolytes (sodium, potassium), were
evaluated.
Results: Phytochemical screening revealed moderate levels of steroids, carbohydrates,
glycosides, proteins, and flavonoids, while phenolics, terpenoids, and tannins were present
in high concentrations. Saponins were not detected. The extract exhibited no acute toxicity
up to 5000 mg/kg. Treatment significantly reduced (p < 0.05) parasitemia levels compared
to the untreated group. Hepatorenal assessment showed a significant decrease (p < 0.05) in
ALT, AST, ALP, and bilirubin levels, indicating hepatoprotective effects. Similarly, kidney
function markers (urea and creatinine) were significantly reduced (p < 0.05), suggesting
nephroprotective properties. Serum electrolyte analysis revealed increased sodium and
potassium levels in treated groups compared to untreated controls.
Conclusion: These findings highlight the phytochemical richness of V. doniana leaves
and their potential therapeutic benefits. The extract demonstrated no acute toxicity and
exerted significant hepatorenal protective effects, reducing liver and kidney dysfunction
in P. berghei-infected mice. Also, its modulation of serum electrolytes suggests a role in
maintaining physiological homeostasis. This study provides scientific validation for the
traditional use of V. doniana in malaria treatment and supports its potential as a safe and
effective natural remedy for malaria-induced hepatic and renal dysfunctio
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT IN PRIMARY SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION IN UDI LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF ENUGU STATE
The study investigated the headmasters’ level of involvement of the communities in school-community
relations and staff-personnel functions of the school administration. All the ninety two (92) primary schools in
the Local Government Area under the Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) made up the population
of the study. They were also the respondents since the number was manageable. The research was guided by
two research questions which addressed the specific areas concerned. A questionnaire of Community
Involvement in Primary School Administration created by the researcher was sued for information collection from
the respondents relating to the research questions. Rating of the instrument was done using the modified likert’s
scale if four points. A mean score of 2.50 was accepted. The mean (X) and Standard Deviations (SD) aided the
researcher’s decisions. As shown by the result the headmaster involves the communities in school-community
relations activities to an acceptance level. However, the situation is different with activities that have to do with
management of staff personnel. Recommendations were made in line with these findings. The schools need to
be supervised more regularly
EDUCATIONAL MANAGEMENT OF STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS IN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
This study investigates the role of educational management
in facilitating strategic partnerships within tertiary institutions to
enhance students’ career opportunities. Drawing on Stakeholder
Theory, the research explores how private universities engage with
external professionals and organizations to foster mentorship,
internship placements, and institutional visibility. Using a descriptive
survey design, data were collected from 90 students across two private
universities—Godfrey Okoye University and Coal City University—
using structured questionnaires. The data were analyzed using mean
and standard deviation, with a 2.5 cut-off mark. Findings revealed that
students have high expectations for institutional partnerships that
provide access to mentorship, real-world experience, and reputational
benefits. Strategic collaborations were found to significantly influence
students’ confidence and perceived employability. The study highlights
the need for intentional, well-managed partnership frameworks within
educational institutions. It recommends that university administrators,
policymakers, alumni networks, and industry stakeholders co-create
sustainable engagement systems to support student career
development. The study contributes to literature by offering student centered insights into managing partnerships for long-term
institutional and individual gains
Self-Esteem and Emotional Intelligence as Predictors of Depression Among Undergraduate
The study investigated self-esteem and emotional intelligence as predictors of depression
among undergraduates. Four hundred and twenty-three (423) students comprise of 272
females and 151 males, with an age range of 17-22 years, a mean of 23.47 and SD of 5.43 were
drawn as participants using availability and purposive sampling techniques as participants
from population of Enugu State University of Science and technology (ESUT), University of
Nigeria Nsukka Enugu campus (UNN) and Institute of Management Sciences (IMT) students.
Zung (1965) Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS), Hudson (1992); index of Self-esteem (ISE)
and Wong and Law (2002) Emotional Intelligence Scale (WLEIS) were adopted for data
collection, a correlational design was adopted, while hierarchical multiple regression was
used for analysis. Three hypotheses were tested, and the results revealed that self-esteem and
emotional intelligence failed to predict depression, as there was no remarkable relationship
between the variables. There was no significant interaction effect among the predictor
variables and the criterion variable at p< .05. Given the findings of the study, the researcher
hereby suggests that students with positive mental attitudes can hardly fall into depression

This study focused on the extent of utilization of innovative teaching strategies in teaching 21stcentury skills by Business education lecturers in Enugu State tertiary institutions. The primary goal of this study
was to determine the extent to which innovative teaching strategies are being utilized by Business education
lecturers in teaching 21st-century skills to Business education students in Enugu State. This study employed a
descriptive survey research design. All 69 business educators in Enugu State's tertiary schools who are members
of the Association of Business Educators (ABEN) Enugu State Chapter made up the study's population. The
entire population was the subject of the investigation. One hypothesis and one research question served as the
study's compass. The researchers' tool for gathering data for the study was a structured questionnaire titled
“Innovative Teaching Strategies Utilized by Business Education Lecturers (ITSUBELQ)”. A dependability
index of 0.75 from Cronbach Alpha analysis was attained. The mean and standard deviation were used to
answer the research question. The t-test statistic was used to test the one null hypothesis. The study's findings
showed that Business education lecturers utilized innovative teaching strategies in teaching their students to a
high extent. Such innovative learning includes digital learning techniques, problem-based learning and
collaborative learning, project-based learning (PBL), inquiry-based learning, flipped classroom and field trips, It
was suggested that these innovative teaching methods should be employed by all Business education lecturers
to a very high extent in teaching their students to enable them to properly develop the needed 21st-century
skills
INFLUENCE OF PARENTING STYLE ON SOCIAL ADJUSTMENT OF UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS
This study investigated the influence of parenting style on social adjustment of undergraduate
students in the University of Port Harcourt. The study was an expos-factor design. The
sample of this study consisted of 1.533 under graduate student drawing using stratified
random sampling technique. Two instruments where used in this study. They are Parenting
Style Assessment Scales (SAS), which were developed and validated. Five research questions
and five null hypotheses guided the study. The result showed that the parenting style has
significant influence on social adjustment of undergraduate students. The result revealed that
there is a significant difference on the influence of authoritative style of parenting on social
adjustment of male and female undergraduate students. The result also revealed that there is
no difference no significant difference on the influence of authoritarian style of parenting on
social adjustment of male and female undergraduate students. The result also showed that
there is a significant difference on the influence of uninvolved style of parenting on social
adjustment of male and female undergraduate students
FEMALE RESISTANCE TO PATRIARCHAL TYRANNY IN ASIKA IKECHUKWU’S TAMARA AND CHIMAMANDA ADICHIE’S PURPLE HIBISCUS
This study presents a comparative literary analysis of Tamara by Asika
Ikechukwu and Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, focusing on the
theme of female resistance to patriarchal tyranny within postcolonial Nigerian
society. Anchored in feminist and postcolonial theoretical frameworks, the paper
explores how the protagonists, Tamara and Kambili, confront emotional repression,
religious extremism, gender-based violence, and moral hypocrisy in their respective
homes. While both characters live under the control of authoritarian fathers, their
responses to oppression diverge sharply—Tamara’s rebellion ends in tragedy and
silence, whereas Kambili’s is nurtured by community and culminates in voice and
agency. The study analyzes narrative techniques, particularly the epistolary form
in Tamara and the retrospective narration in Purple Hibiscus, as symbolic devices
that reflect the protagonists' psychological states and degrees of empowerment.
Through a close reading of thematic concerns such as sexuality, religion, maternal
influence, and cultural morality, the study highlights the broader social commentary
embedded in both novels. It concludes by emphasizing the importance of supportive
environments, mentorship, and storytelling in shaping resistance, and advocates for
the inclusion of such texts in gender and literary discourses to challenge entrenched
patriarchal norms and foster cultural transformation
STEMMING CAPITAL FLIGHT, TAX EVASION, AND MONEY LAUNDERING IN NIGERIA: THE ROLE OF THE NIGERIAN FINANCIAL INTELLIGENCE UNIT
Among what have persistently undermined Nigeria's economic development are illicit financial
outflows through capital flight, tax evasion, and money laundering. These issues hamper
domestic resource mobilization and erode public trust in financial institutions especially banks.
Anchoring on an intergrated theoritical frameworks, this paper explores the role of the Nigerian
Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) in combating these economic crimes in Nigeria. It assesses
the legal framework, operational capacity, achievements, and constraints of the NFIU.
Employing a quantitative approach, the study utilizes secondary data from NFIU reports (2020–
2024) and Central Bank of Nigeria financial disclosures. Statistical analysis was conducted to
evaluate trends and correlations between NFIU enforcement and illicit activity reduction.
Findings from the study reveal that increased Suspicious Transaction Report (STR) filings, realtime monitoring, and policy interventions by the NFIU significantly curtailed money laundering
and capital flight activities. Findings from the study reveal that the Nigerian Financial
Intelligence Unit plays a vital role in disrupting the financial architecture that enables capital
flight, tax evasion, and money laundering—especially within the banking system. The paper
while confirming a strong correlation between financial intelligence enforcement and reduction
in financial crimes concludes that capital flight, tax evasion, and money laundering practices
weaken economic development, reduce government revenue, and undermine financial integrity.
The paper recommends among others; strengthening Nigerias Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU)
capacity by enhancing their training, improved interagency collaboration and coordination
should; and strenghtening nigeria’s international cooperation by enhancing collaboration with
foreign financial intelligence units
