    Get PDF
Background: This literature review traces the historical development of research into the relationship between neural abnormalities and criminal behavior, beginning with phrenological studies in the 19th century and evolving with modern imaging techniques.   Objective: To examine how these advancements have enhanced our understanding of the brain-behavior nexus, particularly in the context of aggression and impulsivity, and to discuss the ethical implications of this research.   Methods: The review analyzes studies focusing on structural and functional brain deviations related to criminal tendencies, along with ethical discussions in this field.   Results: Evidence suggests a correlation between certain neural markers and behavioral tendencies like aggression and impulsivity. However, ethical concerns such as potential stigmatization, deterministic labeling, and implications for the justice system are prominent.   Conclusion: While there is a growing body of evidence supporting these correlations, challenges remain in establishing causality and using this information ethically. The importance of early diagnosis, psychological interventions, and the role of emerging technologies are highlighted. The review advocates for multidisciplinary collaboration and calls for continued research with a strong emphasis on ethical considerations, to ensure that scientific advancements benefit individuals and society equally

Carbon Emission Mitigation: a Sustainable Transportation Perspective for Reforming the Law on Highways in Indonesia

    Get PDF
Objective: This research aims to provide essential issues to be included in the draft of new regulations to revise Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation. The transportation sector plays a vital role in social mobility in Jakarta. However, the negative impact of increasing carbon emissions reaching 171 air pollution standard index (APSI) cannot be accommodated by outdated laws and poses a significant challenge to the health of the environment and urban communities now and in the future.   Theoretical framework: The theory used is Carbon Emission Disclosure. We will use some of this theory to explain and incorporate it into the plans for new regulations. Carbon Emission Disclosure (CED) is one part of carbon accounting, an organization's obligation to measure, acknowledge, record, present, and disclose carbon emissions. In this context, the government is responsible for CED. Carbon Emission Disclosure was measured using several items adopted from research. There are five broad categories relevant to climate change and carbon emissions: climate change risks and opportunities, greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption, reduction of greenhouse gases and costs, and accountability of emission carbon. Method: The Method uses a qualitative approach using focus group discussions and is supported by participant observation. Sixteen stakeholders, policymakers, and eight private vehicle users participated in this study, providing diverse perspectives. Research starts May 18 to November 19, 2023. The research locus is in the city of Jakarta.   Results and Conclusions: This study found six themes that were taken into consideration to be included in the draft of new regulations that will be drafted. Namely Motor Vehicle Policy is to reduce the amount of reduction in the impact of carbon emissions; policy on the impact of traffic jams and density, the impact of carbon emissions on population health; limiting vehicle emissions by implementing carbon accounting; zero-emission vehicles by supporting electric vehicles; future solutions and strategies, namely implementing a Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) plan to reduce carbon emissions, and regarding the use of illegal drugs, alcohol, and several points proposed by field observation participants.   Research implications: This study presents policy implications that the government can utilize to reduce the impact of carbon emissions through several parts of the CED concept, including reducing carbon emissions, high energy consumption in Jakarta can be reduced by electric vehicles, detailing emission reduction strategies, and comprehensively implementing accountability for carbon emissions serious about coal-based electricity companies around the city of Jakarta. The consequences of this strategy can range from policy formulation to developing new regulations that replace old laws.   Originality/value: This research analyzes the paradigm shift, which still uses old laws to become new laws, by including the CED concept, which focuses on six themes from the results of this study. These changes can affect transportation management in Indonesia. This paradigm shift study is a new contribution because it can provide a deeper understanding of the evolution of transportation governance by reducing carbon emissions. This paradigm shift is expected to significantly shift private vehicle users to mass vehicles, reducing carbon emissions. On the other hand, the government has issued regulations President Number 61 of 2011 concerning the National Action Plan for Emission Reduction Greenhouse Gases. This regulation is issued to reduce carbon emissions. The challenge is that until now, the implementers have yet to implement it thoughtfully; its implementation is separate from the National Law and requires a solid will to include it in the new draft law as a single unit

    Get PDF
Purpose: This study aims to explain the vulnerability of institutional management practices of water resources, agent practices, and system reproduction that can potentially cause social vulnerability in society.   Theoretical reference: Structuration theory was chosen because this theory can explain structural or institutional vulnerability seen from practices in water resources management.   Method: A qualitative approach using the participatory rural appraisal (PRA) method was employed to map the social vulnerability of management structures. NVivo mind map analysis and geographic information system analysis were used to strengthen the relationship between social practices and vulnerability information through drought maps.   Results and Conclusion: The results of the study show that resource management is vulnerable to maintaining old patterns or habits because agents are unable to break through institutional systems and structures do not have authority, and have no bargaining position. Reproduction of social systems takes place in accordance with ongoing social structures that traverse space and time. The forestry organization KPH Sumedang has the authority to manage water resources around the forestry area. Vulnerability becomes a phenomenon of water user communities on the forest's edge. Discursive and recursive practices of actors/agents perpetuate the social structure of water users, such as the potential vulnerability of the social structure of water user communities and practices that encourage social vulnerability.   Implications of research: This study has shed light on the community vulnerability related to the management of water resources by the forest edge communities. In addition, this study has given insight into the vulnerability of the social structure that can be seen from the practices of water users in village communities on the edge of the forest.   Originality/value: The originality lies in how this research scrutinizes the social vulnerability model in managing water resources in communities in villages on the edge of the forest. So far, vulnerability has been studied more often after a disaster occurs

Therefore, the data used are secondary data sourced from primary, secondary and tertiary legal materials.   Results and Conclusion: From the results of the research conducted, it was concluded that the MPR still has the authority to make provisions that are regulatory outward in nature that are recognized for their existence and have binding legal force as long as they are made on the basis of higher laws and regulations or based on their authority, as stipulated in Article 8 of the Law on the Establishment of Laws and Regulations.   Implications of Research: Therefore, the MPR should use this authority to make interpretations of constitutional norms as a reference or reference in examining the Law against the Constitution and references for state institutions in carrying out their duties and authorities derived from the 1945 Constitution.   Originality/Value: Until this research was conducted, there had been no research that specifically discussed the authority of the MPR in making regulations that regulate exit based on the provisions of Article 8 of the Law on the Establishment of Legislative Regulations

Introduction: COVID-19 cases in Indonesia have been detected since March 2020 with continuously increasing numbers. Monitoring of non-severe COVID-19 cases undergoing self-isolation is a challenge due to the limited number of medical personnel and facilities. Respinos is a device designed to measure a patient's respiratory rate, body temperature, and oxygen saturation connected to an online mobile application for telemedicine monitoring.   Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy and barriers that patients might feel with the Respinos diagnostic device.   Methods: The study was a clinical trial with an intervention method performed on 97 patients with confirmed non-severe COVID-19 cases at Hasan Sadikin General Hospital from October to November 2021.   Results: The portable respiratory diagnostic device, Respinos, showed measurements of respiration rate, body temperature, and patient saturation that were relatively the same (p>0.05) with manual measurements both on periodic measurements (morning, afternoon, and evening) as well as the daily average.   Conclusion: Respinos can be considered a good monitoring tool for COVID-19 patients undergoing self-isolation as an aid for telemedicine
