Smart Emergency Response System for Medical Services
According to India’s State-Level Disease Burden Initiative, road traffic accidents are among ten largest causes of deaths in the country. More than 80% of accident victims do not receive medical attention within one hour of the incident. On time medical emergency response systems are crucial for increasing the survival rates of people involved in road accidents and those who require pre-hospital care. Ambulance services play a critical role in medical ERS to provide medical aid. Researches from developed countries have shown that 15-30% of road traffic deaths can be avoided with good coordination of in-hospital trauma management and in-time rescue and retrieval systems. The primary aim of the study is to improve the district's existing emergency response system so that ambulances can be reached and accessible in the shortest time feasible. The study provides a simulation-based ambulance relocation optimization approach. A case study is undertaken for Prayagraj District, which ranks third in the overall number of road accidents in Uttar Pradesh, to validate the suggested strategy. The objective is to assess the current emergency response system's level of service in terms of spatial distribution and recommend new base station sites to optimise coverage and minimise response time. For simulation, five scenarios are considered- existing situation, relocation of additional ambulances, optimized location, optimized location with dynamic relocation of ambulances and optimized ambulance fleet. Compared with the existing situation, the experimental results demonstrate that response time can be reduced by about four minutes just by relocating the existing ambulances. An increase of 21% road length coverage is also observed by ambulance relocation. By, relocating the ambulances every season according to the varying demands, response time can be further reduced by about a minute. A total fleet of 58 ambulances is required so that almost all cases are covered within a response time of 15 minutes. Further improvements can be made by reducing the delay in ambulance dispatch, patient pickup and transfer to the hospital and also by assigning cases to the ambulance just after it leaves the hospital instead of waiting for it to reach its base station

Trends in growth of cities towards the periphery with economic, real estate and many
other influencing opportunities has created a demand for infill development of existing
urban fabric and changes in spatial structures with different intents such as re densification, new commercial or leisure centric opportunities, conservation, etc.
This venture towards infill development neglects the shape and urban form this
transformation is producing, which eventually is seen to become a threat towards the
urbanity of these emerging localities.
Urban vitality, a significant component of urbanity is composed of economic, social
and cultural vitality manifested spatially. Which is associated with the existing
settlement and the urban form of older (once prominent) parts of cities. Robustness &
spatially manifested vitality is often being neglected in the top – down process of
regional/ urban planning to local area planning.
Localities promoted for infill development are often places with prominence; socio culturally or economically, with a rigid structure of various active spatial networks
which keep these localities up and running while cities transform. But insertion of infill
development disregards the quality of urban form and associated human activities and
patterns, builds indifferent urban form conforming to the traditional spatial practices of
segregation and enclave urbanism.
While it is argued that urban features in residential development promote or limit the
urban vitality, there is a lack of research on the level of urban vitality of infill
development in urban structures at the scale of urban blocks
The study carried out in this thesis intends to analyse the relationship between the
urbanity, urban form and interdependency of both on each other, to understand the
changes in urban form initiated due to infill development and how it affects the urbanity
and vitality of the localities from block to neighbourhood levels. This thesis will also
enquire how quality of urban form can modulate the vitality and robustness of
development keeping in mind the social, economic and spatial aspects.
This thesis ultimately aims to enhance the spatial quality of built environment in cases
of infill development, structurally on different scales and for different stakeholders for a robust and liveable interface between the built and unbuilt and also to prepare a
comprehensive redevelopment guideline keeping in mind the coherent vitality of user
experience towards the urban form

Analysing travel behaviour of Public transport users through Structural equation modeling
Increasing the mode share of public transport has become prominent for cities in India with rising issues faced due to rapid urbanisation. Escalating traffic congestion due to the use of private vehicles arises the need for the shift of private vehicle users to public transport. An efficient public transport system is an ongoing need of a city for the unhindered mobility of its commuters. In order to improve the public transport patronage, commuter’s attitude and behavioural attributes are needed to be considered for understanding their preference of mode along with the demographic, socio economic characteristics and attributes of the mode. Individual attitudes and perceptions about various modes of transportation clearly differ due to socioeconomic condition and inherent qualities of transportation modes that cannot be directly measured or observed. The conventional mode choice studies rely on the socio demographic factors of the commuters but it is equally rather more necessary to include the attitude and perception towards the mode for predicting the mode choice decisions. Therefore, in addition to conventional variables, the choice of transportation mode is influenced by unobservable/ latent variables. Thus, latent variables should be included in the model to capture the subjective factor's impact on mode selection which is aimed to be done through Structural equation modelling. From the past studies it is also evident that the travel behaviour is better explained with SEM compared to traditional methods of Mode choice models.
There is a need for better assessment of the mode choice decisions as it helps in resolving issues such as estimating demand for various modes of transportation, reducing traffic congestion, allocating resources, analysing the overall efficiency of travel, and providing insight into traveller behaviour attribute Mode choice models are crucial in determining a city's travel demand. This study aims to enhance the existing public transport system in the study area focusing on improving the public transit patronage by retaining the existing ridership and further improving it. The parameters/indicators of travel behaviour required for shaping an efficient public transportation system and the characteristics of existing public transportation system operating in the city are studied. The case of city Bus-based public transit system of Visakhapatnam is considered for the study. Revealed preference survey is performed at the major bus depots of Visakhapatnam. A total of 182 samples are collected with demographic, socio-economic characteristics, trip attributes, and user preference w.r.t satisfaction, Quality of service, Attitude towards PT. The structure of the relationship between these travel behaviour variables is established using Descriptive analysis and Factor analysis. The significant factors are identified from it which are influencing the bus commuters’ behaviour and are modeled using Structure Equation Modelling approach. The major latent variables are identified and recommended which are affecting the bus users’ travel behaviour
Mobility solutions for last mile connectivity
Transferring services to the end point is referred to as last mile connection. In the context of urban mobility, the word is used to describe both the first and last leg of supplying connection from a transit system's origin to its destination. Commuters may quickly connect or transit to mainline transit lines at the start or finish of their journeys using last mile connection services. They are significant because they supplement fast transit by providing travellers with the entire route they require. Last-mile connectivity takes into account factors such as the ease with which modes and alternatives are available, the time and expense paid in the last mile, the simplicity with which modes may be changed, and the ease with which people can walk or cycle to and from stops/stations. Due to extreme migration towards urban areas in the last few decades, increasing vehicle ownership, traffic congestion and extreme air pollution has resulted to most cities adopting mass rapid transit systems However, cities continue to struggle with last-mile connection. The majority of cities lack adequate last-mile connection. Dehradun being the capital of state of Uttarakhand located 236km from the national capital region is being developed as counter magnet to NCR, it has been witnessing rapid urbanization along with increasing population (both residing and floating) since the last decade which has led to a certain load on urban transport infrastructure, along with urbanization, city has been witnessing sprawl as the major central areas are densely populated. Adding to this, city buses, IPTs and autos are in dilapidated conditions and are high polluting and unsafe to commute. The study attempts to understand existing last mile connectivity issues in city of Dehradun with the help of data (from primary and secondary sources), further it evaluates potential improvements for betterment of last mile connectivity and recommends solutions for improving last mile scenario in the study area
Revitalising the sacredscape of Omkareshwar
In India, the land of sacredscapes and living heritage, the phenomenon of Pilgrimage-Tourism is emerging as the new ‘trend’. Tourism industry is already one of the major economic boosters of a developing nation, and when it is clubbed with the phenomenon of pilgrimage it puts forth tremendous number of opportunities and at least an equal number of challenges.
Indian Sacredscapes being highly sensitive fabrics of development and existence, it becomes crucial to identify the appropriate strategies for their development as sites for pilgrimage-tourism. The thesis, hence, is aimed at understanding and analysing the reasons, succeeded by the methods of revitalising Indian Sacredscapes. The site chosen for this purpose is the sacred town of Omkareshwar in Madhya Pradesh.
The identified issues in Omkareshwar revolve around visitor sensitisation and lack of adequate infrastructure. The design solution is translated into a welcome centre, an interpretation centre, and visitor accomodation
case of peri-urban areas of Jaipur
There are 461 million people living in cities and this number is growing by 2.3% every year. Providing the necessary urban infrastructure is an upcoming big challenge as 70 to 80 % of the infrastructure that will be needed by 2050 has not been built yet. Urbanisation and population growth goes hand in hand which increases the demand. The demand of resources, services and ultimately more spaces in terms of land which leads to city sprawl. City sprawl is defined in various manners across the global in terms of various local context but in short it is unplanned, incremental urban growth which is often regarded unsustainable. As a city sprawls or as it urbanizes, essentially there is change of land use from rural to urban and this change brings in various environmental concerns. To address these environmental concerns, it is crucial to identify the areas that go through this conversion of rural to urban land use. This raises an environmental concern of maximize benefits of Urbanisation without compromising the environmental benchmarks.
Currently there is a reactive approach for solutions and lack of proactive approach of environmental urban planning. The gap identified through research was lack of incorporating the environmental perspective or lack of environmental plans for periurban areas. There is a gap in development plans implementation and linking their impacts on these peri-urban areas. Over the past three decades, Jaipur district has rapidly urbanized and more than half of the populace is urban population The approach of this thesis is studying the peri-urban areas and examine their features to identify the broad environmental conflicts in these areas. The parameters studied are of land use, water resources and food security, which adds to vulnerability of these areas and the communities living here. The environment of these areas is degraded as there is absence of environmental planning strategies. The aim of the thesis is analysing the peri-urban area to direct development strategies through spatio-environmental planning. Firstly, the parameters and subparameters of spatio-environmental planning are identified. Simultaneously, the ecological zones, which goes beyond administrative boundaries of Jaipur is studied and accordingly the study area boundary for Jaipur is delineated. The delineation of the study area boundary was done through excluding the administrative
boundary of the municipal corporation and including the masterplan region boundary along with potential growth centers, watershed and the eco-sensitive areas of the region. The next step of the study is to analyse these parameters and sub-parameters of the delineated area to identify the environmental concerns. Analysing these parameters to cater the challenges is important to incorporate the environmental perspective in the final objective of formulating effective spatial strategies for land use planning.
Administrative boundaries prevent a strategic approach to environmental planning and management of the peri-urban interface. Environmental problems in the study area cannot be addressed only from the perspective of the sustainability of urban development or from sectoral interventions in some peri-urban villages but needs contextual solutions at community level and planning at regional level.
Environmental degradation in the peri-urban interface cannot be addressed in isolation from the processes taking place in the wider region, so addressing these concerns through transformation of planning system is required. Since these areas are dynamic in nature, local and discrete actions such as community land-use for targeting issue-specific strategies is essential. The regional interventions require appraisal and consideration of environmental concern during planning process. Participatory approach brings in stakeholder consultation and traditional knowledge, whereas producing actual strategic environmental plans help in action and implementation. This study is done to identifypotential tourism spots & resources from tourist attraction & revenue generation perspective, to give opportunities to local peoples, because most of the people in the study area depends on farming but the topography of the area is hilly due to
which productivity of soil is very less, these are the reasons of economical backwardness of that area. Hill tourism is major research concern for any region as compared to other forms of tourism, it is very important to know contribution of tourism in job creation and development of the region through it. Thus, the paper aims to explore tourism potentials for local economic development, it uses evaluation criteria to identify potential tourism spots, in order to determine suitability and likelihood of success if development does take place. The conclusions of the study are mostly based on qualitative methods such as interviews and field observations. Some of the data was extracted from maps of the research region using quantitative techniques. The research shows that Mahur has a lot of tourist p otential in all five tourism categories studied, especially when
it comes to diversification.The findings show that the studied region lacks essential infrastructure. The
absence of accessible access is a key stumbling block to future tourism activity. The primary entrance road is small and twisting, with parking issues, but existing alternate roads might be repaired and marked to allow visitors to access the region. The absence of infrastructure, along with cumbersome rules and procedures, has
restricted the amount to which the local community tourism has been able to benefit from the growth and investment possibilities that a robust tourism business may potentially give. The study's findings show that Mahur is the good spot for tourist growth because of its varied variety of attractions, which is one of the most important aspects of successful tourism. Tourists are drawn to a location because of its variety of
attractions. There is no need to provide facilities and services if there are no attractions. Potential tourist-related facilities and services might be used by the local people, considerably increasing the study area's quality of life and economic development, which now lacks such infrastructure
Strategies for enhanciing the experience of the Buddhist archeological site of Brahmani river valley/
Religion and architecture always has closely woven strings attached. Buddhism is a religion that has left a tremendously rich heritage, both tangible and intangible among which religious structures take precedence. The thesis chosen deals with a regional level study of the Brahmani river basin that houses Odisha’s most important Buddhist sites. These sites are the tangible proof of thousands of years of evolution, not just biological, but in terms of art, culture and economy. The diversity and historic values and significance is what makes this region a mine of opportunities. The region possesses more than 32 archaeological sites, hundreds of temples and one very ancient historic town Jajpur. Among these archaeological sites 15 are identified as prominent Buddhist sites, with archaeological evidences and historic records mentioning them. They are, Ratnagiri, Kolhanagiri, Udaygiri, Lalitgri and Olasuni, Langudi, Tarapur, Deuli, Kaima, Bajragiri, Kantigodia, Solampur, Marichi temple, Khadipada, Kupari, Soro and Kaupur. The five sites taken for the thesis are, Ratnagiri, Lalitgiri, Udaygiri, Langudi and Tarapur. The thesis aims to prepare strategies for enhancing the experience of Buddhist archaeological sites of Brahmani river valley. This thesis will include the detailed study of background of Buddhism, its philosophy, evolution through years and different sects, the Buddhist sacred landscaope, architectural manifestations, similar archaeological sites and different concepts and framework fallowed to develop them. The thesis would also explore the concept of Buddhist landscape. Study of the site will include historical and geographical context of the site, detailed site documentation including structure and activities, identifying strength, issues and existing legal framework which would lead to the final proposal in terms of both strategies, guidelines and design interventions for amplified user experience.School of Planning and Architecture Bhopa
