    As the current notion of the education system in India relies on learning and the exchange of knowledge within the confines of a classroom, there is an increased need for the creation and inclusion of informal learning spaces within schools. Informal learning has been an important part of the traditional Indian educational approach, the Gurukul system, which emphasized the concept of learning through and with nature and peer interaction. This design thesis explores how learning spaces can be adapted or modified from the Gurukul model in modern-day residential schools aided by a comprehensive case study approach.     Firozabad is a district situated near Agra. It is known as the Glass City of India for its large manufacturing of glass-related products. For more than 200 years the Firozabad industry is indulging in making glass bangles and now has become the world’s largest producer of glass bangles. Bangle making skills had been transferred from generation to generation passing on the traditional technique. Now the business of glass industry is grown in various fields like glassware like beakers, flasks, containers for laboratories, other products like the light bulb, battery bulb and other lighting and spotting equipment, glass art items are also made like toys, candle stands, fruits, birds and animal figurines and images of gods and goddesses and domestic glass goods like drinking glasses. It has now become a culture of small households in the city to indulge in making items related to glass. Most of the population is connected to the business. To produces all these products, one requires skill, craft and knowledge which cannot be gained without proper practice and knowledge. There are two towns Shikohabad and Tundla which come under the Firozabad district. Tundla is located in the west and east of Shikohabad city. The main trade in the district is bangles. Due to over pollution coal is replaced with gas thus coal business in the city is reduced. Women of the city are employed in their houses to prepare and give the final touch to the bangles. The industry is a place where raw material is processed to make a product which is later used as an economic asset. In the case of Firozabad, the industries and craft are interdependent to create a final product for the market. Firozabad glass industry had been looked upon the aspects like pollution, child labour and poor condition of labour in the industry.     The world's leading planning technique for maximizing transit-land use synergy is called Transit-oriented development (TOD). By minimizing sprawl, lowering automobile use, enhancing urban design, and providing facilities for pedestrians, TOD surrounding a transit station improves quality of life and boosts property value.The TOD policy allocates a specified %tage of built-up land to the overall housing supply in order to incorporate EWS and affordable housing in the influence zone.Urban India's population growth has recently been spurred by people moving to the cities in search of jobs and a better life. After 1947, India's urban population grew quickly. In 2011, the urban population expanded to 377 million people, or 32% of the total population, as individuals moved to cities in search of work. According to the 2011 Census, India has 53 major cities. These 53 metropolitan areas are home to more than 40% of the world's urban population, of which 24% resides in the ten biggest cities. The influence of architectural surroundings on mode choice is becoming more and more prevalent. Atal Mission for Urban Transformation (AMRUT) and Smart Cities have pushed India's public transportation industry to the forefront of the country's growth. Increasing numbers of people are expecting this to happen in the near future. More than 751.5 kilometers of metro rail lines are now operational in the nation, with 22 projects currently in operation. In this scenario, land-use and transportation planning must be coordinated to ensure that public transportation, walking, and bicycling remain popular modes of transportation. Transit-oriented development (TOD) strives to create sustainable urban growth centers by integrating land use and transportation planning. According to research, nations that have previously implemented TOD policies are still dealing with a variety of concerns, complaints, and difficulties. A notable one is that it forces genuine transportation customers to relocate out of their service area because of the high bid rents (it could be considered as State Aided Gentrification). The vast majority of people who utilize public transportation are in the lower and moderate-income brackets, as shown by the likes of Bogota's Trans Milenio, Mexico's Metro bus, and Delhi's metro rail. To increase the number of people using publictrans portation, it is necessary to make it easier for people to get to and from their destinations. As a result of the Mixed Income Tod, both TOD and mixed-income neighborhoods would gain. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in India has drafted a TOD Policy for New Delhi that specifies a minimum mix of housing types based on unit size. Rentable and for sale dwellings with a maximum square footage of 25 square meters must get at least 15% of the total FAR for all TOD developments (UTTIPEC, 2012). As a city grows, its setting, public transportation use, and socioeconomic makeup are all distinct. As a result, each city's minimum dwelling unit area must be determined. the goal of boosting transit ridership via Transit Oriented Development cannot be achieved by enforcing a uniform minimum unit size across all communities.     Once Heavily forested and a major source of livelihood for tribal people, Bundelkhand has become devoid of the forest cover. Moreover, the recent tendency of ’Development at the cost of Destruction.’ suffered by various other forest covers in the region like road construction, Narmada river project has now reached the Buxwaha forest in the form of The prospected Bunder Diamond mining project which led to the emergence of this project study. Wherein, the duration of the study, it was deduced that the present condition of buxwaha forest land is depleting its natural landscape because of the present anthropogenic activities and the severe water scarcity, and the continuance of such depletion will lead to further degradation even with the permanent stay on the mining activity. Additionally, there is a strong relevance of the Forest to prehistoric times and ancient mythology. It was also noted that once rich with cultural integrity of raj gond tribes the region is occupied by the other nonindigenous tribes as well with agriculture as the main source of livelihood, however, dependency on the forest produce is still crucial for all the villagers. The region needs necessary preventive actions with the immediate force for conserving and maintaining the original landscape.     Urban innovation district and it's implications for Indian cities: A case of Amaravati, AP

    The topography of Indian IT cities has mostly consisted of suburban corridors of spatially separated corporate campuses for the last 50 years, with little attention to the quality of life or combining work, housing, and entertainment. More vibrant and collaborative work and living spaces are in high demand. The "Innovation Districts," a complementary new urban paradigm, are also gaining traction. These are regions where prominent IT firms congregate and collaborate with start-ups, incubators, and accelerators. Their key objective is to revive poor downtown neighborhoods, create employment, and transform the economy away from traditional industrial-based manufacturing and toward technology-driven services. However, this concept of an Innovation district has not been considered during the planning of the Indian tech-based urban areas. This concept if it can be applied to these cities, would turn their trodden manufacturing-based economy into a modern innovation-based economy thus reviving them. By repopulating neglected urban areas, creating dynamic public spaces, offering educational opportunities for citizens, and bringing wealth to low- and moderate-income neighborhoods, innovation districts contribute to a city's social dynamism. As a result, research is needed to look at the effects of Innovation on a city and determine whether it can be applied to the Indian context. Amaravati, the capital of Andhra Pradesh, is a newly planned city with a vision to turn into a pioneering smart city in India using global practices. Consisting of 25 settlements with a population of just over 1 lakh, the city aspires to become a tech hub with the inflow of migrant working population. To meet its projected population of 3.5 million, the city designed several investment possibilities to entice corporations to invest in Amaravati and provide employment to the resident population. Various socio political and legal issues related to the city's shift of capital status have impacted it severely. As a result, the state now owns 33,000 acres of unoccupied land purchased from farmers through land pooling, with no plans for investment or development. Even though the city is well linked, has top universities, and has plenty of room for growth owing to favorable legislation and land uses, it has been unoccupied for the past two years with no development. If an innovation district can be proposed in this location, it will aid in the renewal of strategies and the development of the city which has been envisioned in its Masterplan. As a result, it is vital to investigate this innovative concept in the context of India. The paper tries to analyze this concept of an Innovation district that is successful globally and looks for ways to adapt it in the Indian context – in the case of Amaravati. Through various global and national Innovation indices, the parameters to assess the Innovation framework are researched. Qualitative data in the form of literature reviews, and case studies is being studied to understand the conceptual development of Innovation districts. Various case studies related to Innovation districts having similar geography and size as Amaravati are explored and analyzed comparatively using secondary data sources. Regional level indicators like high-tech companies, post-secondary education, research personnel, business development, Capital, Quality of local research infrastructure, Quality of ICT infrastructure, and broadband penetration are used to identify the Innovation potential in Amaravati. According to a preliminary study, Amaravati has strong transportation connections, with premier research institutes and anchor firms in adjacent Vijayawada and Guntur. These factors would be crucial in defining the city's Innovation capability. The city has the necessary provisions to attract investors, in addition to a robust start-up policy and framework. These, when paired with the place-making and proximity aspects of the Innovation District, would help boost the economy and generate jobs for local farmers as well as attract a variety of working populations and repopulate the city core to match its previous projections. The various challenges associated have been classified as Innovation related challenges, Place related challenges, and Inclusion challenges. Policy level suggestions have been given to address these issues. These suggestions would help in boosting the Innovation potential of the region thus creating a favorable environment to establish an Innovation district in Amaravati

    For any developing nation, securing future energy concerns is the elementary step for its sustainable growth! Being the third largest energy-consuming nation, India whose consumption is set to be double by 2050 drove this research towards literature review which inferenced three major conclusions. Firstly, biofuels are very significant for the energy security in India and amongst them, ethanol appears to be the most viable solution. Secondly, ethanol generated from the edible matters i.e. 1G Ethanol is not sufficient to accomplish the EBP programme targets as it competes with food and water security in India. This essentially paves the way for 2G Ethanol i.e. ethanol derived from the lignocellulosic inedible biomass here, rice straw or stubble. Moreover, it has an added advantage of mitigating air pollution directly by channelizing the stubble to 2G industries and indirectly by creating greener fuels for vehicle. To achieve such a scenario, ethanol supply chain is mandatory for ground implementation but its gap analysis proves that 59% of its content is untouched in India. Economic aspects like fuel pricing, environmental cost, etc. and social aspects like storage warehouses, outlet stations, logistics, etc. are the least catered domains with just 4-9% coverage. Hence, complete thesis work tried to build around those perspectives. Anticipating environmental cost of 2G Ethanol is the main aim of thesis. It streams through four main objectives whose intent is to understand the present scenario of market, strategizing a 2G feedstock aggregation model for Haryana, evaluating the economic cost of 2G over 1G Ethanol and finally laying down the policy proposals for adapting remunerative price of 2G Ethanol from rice straw, having environmental cost as its crucial component. Analysis yields stubble catchment zones for strategically located 14 storage centres in Haryana. Government should provide a subsidy of at least 16% of 1G Ethanol to ensure successful adoption of 2G Ethanol by the market

    Interaction of public autonomous vehicles with stochastic driving modes on Indian roads

    With advent of new technologies, the transportation sector is experiencing a strong influence towards an era of driverless vehicles. The influx of autonomous vehicles (AVs) can have an impact on mobility, and traffic dynamics will differ hugely from traditional human-driven vehicles in terms of conservative driving, increased intervals, low average travel speeds, etc. because of the pre-set algorithms on which the AVs work. Because of the substantial research done on AVs from both academia and industry over the last decade, AVs have shown incredible development. Despite the excitement around autonomous vehicles, the implementation of AVs as public transport is an emerging field of interest as it’s expected to improve network efficiency, safety and alleviate network congestion. Diverse scenarios are being studied and looked into in several European projects but seldom do they talk about a heterogeneous mix of AVs and other stochastic driving modes. Thus, there arises a need to study the transition phase especially in the Indian scenario. This paper tries to study the changes to the existing network by introducing Autonomous Buses (ABs) at different penetration rates on a realworld Indian urban road network using a microsimulation platform. ABs have significant potential on improving efficiency not just of the bus network and operations but also for the whole network but only when they are implemented at higher penetration rates. The study finds that the network becomes performs better only after ABs are introduced at about 70%. Further, when compared with a bus only lane, the network performs better even without the penetration of ABs, thus providing useful insights regarding the feasibility of ABs. Further, the study provides suggestions for improving the future microsimulation platforms at each stage of the research

In Hindi, the word ‘pakka’ means solid or permanent. ‘Kutcha’ houses are defined as temporary structures built using mud, grass, reed, stones, thatch, straw, leaves, and unburnt bricks. In contrast ‘Pakka’ houses are built using cement, RCC and baked bricks. In India, a large-scale plan to build ‘pakka’ houses under PMAY (and earlier iterations) is underway.     nybody without any prior knowledge of urban and regional planning can understand the relationship between urban and rural area. Rural and urban societies are interconnected for a variety of reasons. Rural areas rely on cities for raw materials like agricultural products, milk, and labour, while cities rely on rural areas for finished items like agricultural equipment, utensils, and textiles. These dependencies of both area on each other form linkages between them in terms of economy, transportation, social, etc., these linkages have various form and magnitude depending on the geographical, social and economic condition of the areas. Rural and urban areas have unique relationship. Due to the increase in urban infrastructure and activity, the transition zone is currently undergoing significant transformation. Rural-urban links can be seen as both a cause and a consequence of rural development. The consequences of rural-urban links on rural development are fascinating to see. This study examines rural-urban links and rural development using a case study of two villages from two separate districts, each about the same distance from Bhubaneswar: Ratanpur, a reasonably well-developed village, and Patia, a comparatively underdeveloped hamlet. This concern is then explored by, (1) Understanding the significance of rural-urban ties and determining the parameters of rural-urban interdependence, (2) To identify factors which affect rural development, (3) To suggest planning initiatives for self-dependency of rural area. This thesis has its focus on the concept of rural-urban linkages and the reason for the rural development. This study attempts to determine the nature and extent of rural urban linkages in the identified area. The purpose of this study is to investigate the type and degree of rural-urban links in the target area. The level of development has been identified by social mapping and resource mapping. At the end the thesis will give recommendations towards the improvement of linkages with urban areas which will help in the development of rural area
