    This architectural thesis report presents a design proposal for a state-of-the art international and domestic airport terminal in Udaipur, envisioned to cater to the future requirements of air travel. The terminal's unique identity is derived from the fluid and elegant form of a bird, which not only distinguishes it visually but also complements and enhances the activities within the structure. The thesis research investigates the challenges and considerations associated with designing an airport terminal that seamlessly accommodates both international and domestic operations. Through a thorough analysis of existing airport facilities and projections of future passenger traffic, key design parameters are identified to optimize operational efficiency, passenger experience, and sustainability. Drawing inspiration from the graceful movement and efficiency of birds, the design concept harmoniously integrates the terminal into its surrounding environment. The avian-inspired form is developed through iterative processes, ensuring a balance between visual impact and functional optimization. This unique identity establishes the airport terminal as a symbolic landmark, reflecting the qualities of freedom, elegance, and agility. The proposed design contributes to Udaipur's architectural landscape, and its seamless integration with the surrounding environment reflects the city's commitment to sustainable and visionary development in the field of aviation

    Assessment of the access and egress trip behaviour at metro stations

    The urban population in India is heavily reliant on public transportation as cities continue to grow. However, there has been a decline in public transport ridership, with more people opting for private vehicles. This research focuses on improving metro transit ridership by assessing user behavior during access and egress trips. The study examines three metro stations in Delhi NCR and categorizes trips into TOD zone, transition zone, and catchment zones based on distance. Through an analysis of existing research papers, factors influencing access and egress trips at metro stations were identified, along with the tools and techniques used to analyze user behavior data. The analysis derived key indicators such as socioeconomic characteristics, trip attributes, mode choice, and mode-specific service quality. A survey using a questionnaire collected 191 user samples at the three metro stations, and several analyses were done, including mode utility analysis, passenger behavior analysis, and mode-specific service quality analysis. The study found that expanding the catchment area for E-rickshaws and autos could accommodate two-wheeler (2W) and four-wheeler (4W) users. However, autos, cycle rickshaws, and 4W have higher unit costs per kilometer compared to other modes. Users with a monthly income of below 25,000 prioritize cost and tend to prefer walking over E-rickshaws and autos, but they strongly prefer buses. Beyond 1,200 meters, modes like E-rickshaws, autos, 4W, and buses are preferred over walking. Mode-specific service quality analysis indicates that walking, E-rickshaws, 2W, and 4W are perceived more reliable than buses, and users find walking more comfortable for shorter trips compared to taking the bus. Based on the analysis results, interventions are proposed in the public transportation (PT), intermediate public transportation (IPT), and non-motorized transportation (NMT) sectors to increase metro ridership in the categorized catchment areas. These interventions include improving bus reliability, expanding catchment areas for autos and E-rickshaws based on routes and population density, providing subsidies or incentives for E-rickshaw purchases to reduce travel costs, and suggesting relevant policy implications

    The issue of obesity in India has become a pressing concern, with a recent survey revealing that approximately one-fourth of the population is affected. This alarming trend is accompanied by a range of health problems such as diabetes, cardiovascular issues, digestive disorders, and numerous other diseases. One of the key factors contributing to this problem is the changing lifestyle and dietary habits of the younger generation. The inclination towards processed and packaged foods, which have gained popularity over traditional options, exacerbates the issue. These food products often contain excessive amounts of sugar, salt, and preservatives aimed at prolonging their shelf life. Furthermore, the extensive processing involved in their production compromises their natural flavors, necessitating the addition of artificial flavors. It is worth noting that several of these preservatives have been banned in multiple countries due to their detrimental effects on health. To address this pressing matter, it is imperative to prioritize the consumption of unprocessed or minimally processed foods while minimizing the intake of ultra-processed alternatives.An essential aspect is to aid consumers in identifying and distinguishing between food options that are beneficial for their health and those that are not. The main objective of this project is to create widespread awareness among individuals about the negative consequences associated with the consumption of ultra-processed food. Emphasizing the importance of regularly examining food labels when making purchases of packaged products, the project aims to instill a habit of conscious and informed decision-making regarding food choices. NutriBuddy, an informative platform, simplifies the comprehension of food composition, ingredients, and nutritional values. Through engaging challenges and an active online community, NutriBuddy aims to inspire and encourage young individuals to adopt and maintain healthy eating habits, fostering a positive impact on their overall well-being

    The National Commission of Urbanisation 1982 emphasized on balanced approach towards urbanization in India, advocating for low-rise and high-density development to ensure that cities remained sustainable and liveable. The urbanization process in India has posed challenges in providing green and healthy spaces. In order to accommodate other land uses such as residential, institutional, or commercial, the availability of green spaces is sacrificed over a period of time in the core area. Similarly, urban growth also creates pressure on green spaces and agricultural land in the peripheral areas of the cities. The reduction of per capita green spaces due to urban growth and the demand for infrastructure development has raised concerns. Urban green spaces play an important role in improving environmental quality, liveability, and sustainability in urban areas. They contribute to various aspects of urban life, including housing, business, leisure, and commercial development. They also provide many contributions to social and economic life, to the local ecological and planning systems, and as a whole, to the urban Quality of Life. The absence of UGS can negatively affect physical and mental health, air quality, biodiversity, temperature, and social interaction. To study the urban green spaces on the quality of life, I have selected the case of Lucknow city, examining the disparities between the core and peripheral areas. Lucknow has a rich amalgamation of culture and heritage. But poor maintenance and encroachment of the green spaces in the core areas have reduced the per capita of green space. This thesis conducts a comprehensive assessment of urban green spaces in both the core and peripheral areas of Lucknow using qualitative and quantitative measures. The research reveals that the per capita green spaces in the core city are lower compared to the peripheral areas, impacting the overall quality of life. The study proposes interventions to improve the availability, quality, and usability of green spaces in both the core and peripheral areas of Lucknow city. By analysing how urban green spaces enhance the quality of life, this research aims to enhance the well-being of citizens. The strategies are proposed for improving the management and development of urban green areas, including institutional and policy intervention

By embracing the therapeutic qualities of nature, the resort design creates a healing environment that fosters well-being. The integration of Ayurveda principles and practices further enhances the holistic approach to wellness. Inspired by the local architectural style, the resort design respects the site and context of Tehri while providing a unique and authentic experience for guests. The resort seeks to establish a sanctuary where individuals can reconnect with nature, find balance, and experience tranquility in a culturally rich setting. The combination of natural surroundings, Ayurveda, and traditional architecture in the resort design aims to offer guests an opportunity to embark on a journey of self-discovery, rejuvenation, and inner peace

    More than thirty years of research have been conducted in a variety of scientific disciplines, including geography, psychology, public health, transportation, and urban planning, about how the built environment influences people's propensity to walk. Walking behavior can be affected by the environment in a variety of ways depending on the qualities of the land-use, the transit systems, and the urban planning. Walking is attractive in the transportation sector because it can help reduce the number of car miles traveled, emissions of local pollutants, emissions of greenhouse gases, and sprawl, and it also improves public health. The term "walkability" was coined by Transport for London Department and refers to "the amount to which walking is readily available to the consumer as a safe, connected, accessible, and pleasurable activity." In New Zealand, it was described as the degree to which the built environment encourages people to walk. Urban Street Design Manual has been established by Abu Dhabi, and one of its goals is to include the idea of the pedestrian realm into the overall composition of the street. Several cities, particularly in Europe, have developed plans and supporting laws explicitly to increase the walkability and cyclability of the entire city. These plans focus on making the city more accessible to those using these modes of transportation. Walking has been researched a lot with its relation to neighborhood planning, livability, health, sustainability, tourist attractions, housing prices, crime, and safety. There seems to be a gap in literature when it comes to relating walkability and hilly regions. The study conducted on traffic and transportation policies and strategies in urban areas by Ministry of Urban development in 2008 ranks hilly regions (population less than 5 lakh) lowest in walkability index score. The pedestrian infrastructure is not robust in Indian cities and worse in hilly areas. Walking is one of the major modes of commuting for the people in the hills. Providing a robust public transport infrastructure is a challenge due to the limitations in right of way and turning radius. The Indian Road congress provided guidelines in 2012 for pedestrian facilities which specifies the width of footpath based on the abutting land-use. It does not mention the change in elevation levels, its effect on the walking behavior of pedestrians and different guidelines for slopes. The global walkability index of 2005 defines the qualitative parameters that determine walkability in an area. This study focuses on the quantitative parameters of walking in a midblock. It deals with the pedestrian flow, pedestrian speed, vehicle flow, vehicle speed, number of pedestrian crossings, crossing speed, pedestrian density, and vehicle density. It tries to establish a relationship between all these parameters and analyses the effect of one parameter on another. Speed, flow, and density relationships have been studied for pedestrians and the change in these parameters based on slope have been analyzed. This is done to answer the research question on the need to assess walking in hills different from walking in plains

    For over a century, the Railway Industry has been a reliable service provider in India, connecting people across the country and contributing to India's competitiveness in the global market. Despite the development of cities and urban areas, railways remain the most economical and practical mode of transportation within cities. However, railway stations have not kept up with modern development and are often seen as unclean and overcrowded places to simply board trains. Despite the rising demand for services, most stations have not been updated to accommodate the growing needs of the public. The spaces and services provided at railway platforms and nearby areas are no longer sufficient to meet the needs of commuters. While the Indian railways have focused on running more trains to cater to increasing demand, the importance of improving the station's environment has been neglected. However, redeveloping railway stations presents an opportunity to transform the city's landscape. Redeveloping Ludhiana Railway Station into a modern transportation hub by integrating other transport systems which can generate revenue and drive the development of surrounding areas. The aim is to create a new typology of railway stations, with added retail functions, while minimizing the environmental impact and maintaining a dialogue with the city that surrounds it. The goal is to create a station that is not just a place to board trains but a hub of activity, connecting the city and promoting community interaction
