Developing countries face challenges in managing various types of waste due to the lack of eco-friendly environmental techniques, limited resources, and technical expertise. As a result, treating waste at disposal sites becomes challenging. Factors such as accelerated development, urbanization, industrialization, inadequate government policies, and population growth contribute to the rapid generation and accumulation of waste in developing countries. Improper disposal of waste in landfills, without adequate sorting and segregation, is a common practice in numerous developing countries. This improper waste management contributes to the emission of greenhouse gases, thereby contributing to global warming. Nevertheless, recycling, and composting offer effective methods to reduce the volume of waste and produce valuable products that can serve various purposes. In order to tackle the waste management issue in developing countries, it is crucial to enforce stringent regulations, increase public awareness, and employ innovative methods such as leveraging global mobile communication systems and geographical information systems. These technologies can aid in controlling the growing problem of solid waste by enabling better waste management practices. This thesis examines sustainable advancements in solid waste management, specifically in the context of Kozhikode Corporation. The primary objective of this study is to identify and analyze strategies and technologies that can successfully tackle the challenges related to solid waste management in the city. The research aims to promote sustainability and enhance waste management practices in order to address the specific needs of Kozhikode Corporation.” The research begins by providing an overview of the current state of solid waste management in Kozhikode Corporation, highlighting the existing waste management infrastructure, policies, and practices. It identifies the key issues such as increasing waste generation, inadequate waste collection and disposal systems, and their detrimental impacts on the environment and public health. The study explores sustainable innovations that can contribute to overcoming these challenges in Kozhikode Corporation. It examines technologies and practices such as source segregation, composting, bio methanation, and recycling systems that can optimize waste management processes, reduce waste sent to landfills, and recover valuable resources from the waste stream. Additionally, the thesis investigates the feasibility and potential benefits of implementing decentralised waste management approaches tailored to the specific needs and characteristics of Kozhikode Corporation. Moreover, the research analyses the policy and governance aspects related to solid waste management in Kozhikode Corporation. It assesses the existing policies, regulations, and institutional frameworks governing waste management and explores successful case studies from other regions that have effectively addressed similar challenges. The study also examines the role of public participation and community engagement in promoting sustainable waste management practices in the city. By conducting a comprehensive analysis of sustainable innovations, policy frameworks, and case studies specific to Kozhikode Corporation, this thesis aims to provide valuable insights and recommendations for improving solid waste management practices in the city. The findings of this research can inform policymakers, local authorities, and stakeholders in Kozhikode Corporation to develop and implement sustainable waste management strategies that align with environmental objectives and promote a circular economy approach
a case of Panchaganga river basin of Kolhapur city
Urban flooding, a type of water – related disaster, is a widespread issue that affects numerous cities globally every year and occurs more frequently than any other water – related disaster. The impact of this phenomenon can be severe, causing significant damage to physical infrastructure, social life, economic activities and the ecological and environmental aspects of the affected city. Often, the flooding can surpass the capacity of the community to handle floods leading to serious concerns. The rapid urbanization and haphazard expansion of cities into peripheral areas exacerbate the situation, resulting in significant economic losses and extensive harm to buildings and infrastructure. The inundation of urban areas, which can last from a few hours to several days, due to heavy rainfall or overflowing of water bodies, poses a significant challenge to the community. Located in the south – western region of Maharashtra, India – Kolhapur, is a city nestled in a valley, on a relatively flat terrain in the western part of the Deccan Plateau. The city shares its border with Karnataka and is enveloped by hills and mountains, with the Sahyadri Range located to the west and Eastern Ghats situated on the East. The city itself is positioned on the banks of river Panchganga, which meanders through it in an east to west direction, dividing by the city into two parts – the northern part being hilly and the southern part being relatively flat. Kolhapur has experienced severe floods multiple times in recent decades. In 1989, heavy rainfall led to flooding and caused extensive damage to infrastructure and agriculture in the city and as well as in the surrounding areas. In 2005, another devastating flood occurred, resulting in loss of lives and infrastructure damage. In 2019, the city faced its worst flood in over a century, with heavy rainfall leading to the Panchganga river rising 12 feet above its danger level. Kolhapur yet again faced even more severe flooding due to heavy rainfall and overflowing of the Panchganga river, with the water level rising 14 feet above the danger level. The Municipal limits of Kolhapur city is set to expand with the merger of 19 villages, bringing a considerable portion of the city under the immediate influence of flooding caused by the Panchganga river, in addition to the existing flood – prone wards of the Municipal area. The expansion will result in an increase in area from 66 sq.km. iii to 189 sq.km and a rise in the population from 5.50 lakhs to 7.65 lakhs. The upcoming urbanization is expected to occur in the eastern and northern side of the proposed Municipal area which will further lead to urban flooding. The thesis aims to prepare flood mitigation plan of Panchganga river basin within the proposed municipal limits of Kolhapur city. The purpose and objectives of the thesis is four-fold. Firstly, to analyse the current urban development scenario and the proposed expansion plan of Kolhapur municipal area, with a particular focus on its proximity to the Panchganga river. Secondly, to analyse the patterns of urban flooding caused by the overflow of the Panchganga river within the Proposed Kolhapur municipal area, and to assess the role of urban development contributing to flood vulnerability. Third, to identify gaps in the planning strategy and development control measures that are currently in place. Finally, to propose appropriate measures in the form of spatial interventions and development regulations that can help mitigate flood risks and enhance flood resilience in the area. By addressing these objectives, the study intends to contribute towards the formulation of efficient flood management strategies for the Panchganga river basin within the proposed municipal area of Kolhapur City
a case study of Kandla
Indian ports handle 90 percent of the total cargo by quantity and 70 percent by value. Ports either natural or artificial acts as catalysts for an area's economic and social development by facilitating trade and acting as a centre for communal pursuits. India's enormous shoreline of 7400 km is covered by 200 minor and 12 major ports. Ports become significant employment source since large number of individuals are engaged in port-based activities. Ports have a positive economic impact on the surrounding areas, but on the other hand they also have a number of negative impacts such as land/housing market distortion, traffic congestion, environmental degradation and social impacts on the nearest city (port city). This study particularly focuses upon the land and housing market distortion in port city due to port & its related activities by taking case study of Kandla port. Kandla being the largest port in India in terms of the amount of cargo handled, attracts large number of people to Gandhidham (port city) in order to seek job. ‘Gandhidham’ city faces issues like housing shortage, illegal encroachments by labours/workers and shortage of land for development since the port & its related activities occupy large amount of city’s surface area leading to increase in land prices. Moreover, the city comes under high-risk seismic zone V and prone to earthquake & flood, so this research also looks upon development control regulations for the city as well as special guidelines for port city. The study performs demand supply analysis to identify local as well as industrial housing need in the city and then suitable land parcels for development are identified through land suitability analysis. To address the housing issues in the city, interventions towards housing provision are made by considering the guidelines for the city, land availability and land market condition. The study proposes housing for three target groups 1) housing for local people 2) housing for industrial employees and 3) housing for people living in illegal encroachments

The transport sector is transforming globally with an increase in electric vehicle adoption which aims to mitigate the environmental implication of conventional vehicles and improve their energy efficiency. Electric mobility has become more important than ever with the increase in pollution and global warming, having an adverse impact on the quality of life. At COP26 in Glasgow, India committed to reducing carbon intensity emissions by 45 percent below “2005 levels by 2030, reducing total projected carbon emissions by one billion tons from now to 2030”, & 50 % of its energy requirements from renewable energy by 2030.
The government is making a strong push in the transportation sector to implement an electric vehicle (EV) policy, with the aim of replacing all conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles with EVs in order to meet its ambitious national Carbon Emissions target. This transformation will have a huge implication in terms of climate change mitigation and reduce the huge financial burden from energy imports. This strategy aims to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and promote sustainable transportation. By integrating renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power, into the urban infrastructure, cities can power electric vehicles and charging stations while reducing their environmental impact. The charging infrastructure of an electric vehicle ecosystem is often called 'the backbone of electric mobility'. The research focuses on framing a strategy for the deployment of charging infrastructure, Policy Framework, and Charging Location in Ahmedabad (AUDA area) through various scenarios and compares the results achieved for these scenarios. Since it is important to cater to the needs of all types of vehicle segments of the Indian market, a city-level strategy for public charging infrastructure has been formulated. This study has further suggested many fiscal and regulatory policies that can help in accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles across all modes.
This study mainly focused on exploring physical infrastructure requirements for EVs and their implementation challenges. The research aims to study successful practices around the world and review India's national and state EVs (electric vehicles) Infrastructure policy. The study suggests that despite several policies, and schemes, India till now has struggled to adopt electric vehicles due to a disintegrated policy framework, and poor infrastructure. While there are many ways to determine the spatial locations for placing charging stations, most methodologies require big data that is usually collected through technical probes such as GPS, IOT, etc. for better accuracy. With the limited availability of data and time, the aim was to develop a toolkit that can work on a logical arithmetic principle based on certain assumptions and understand the dynamics of the results in correlation with other important factors such as population density, land use analysis, proximity to amenities, travel patterns, parking availability, open space, major transit centers and corridors, and existing charging infrastructure and distribution grid power supply system (micro level and macro level Analysis), etc. Lastly, this research paper aims to propose a strategy for the deployment of electric vehicles (EVs) and the necessary charging infrastructure in Ahmedaba

Re-establishing the historic significance of Karaikal Town, Pondicherry
The ancient French precinct- Karaikal was well known for its religious and cultural heritage for centuries. Even though Karaikal doesn’t have a lot of monumental buildings or historic structures, its still seen peculiar because of its vernacular style of architecture. The architectural character here is a result of varied cultural influences throughout history. If this heritage has to be protected then every old house counts. These architectural heritage are the major identity of the town. The town is perceived as unique because of its architectural setting which is an outcome of a synthesis between French and local Tamil vernacular. The distinct character of the town is due to the influence of varied invasions that occurred in Karaikal over the last centuries. The historic buildings have a complex fabric of every invader in different elements present in a building. Due to the growing urbanisation, the necessities have compelled the people to alter the buildings according to their needs. The practices done to extend space, add or destruct due to pressures of growing economy has disturbed the architectural value of the structure. These practices have highly endangered the existing historic fabric and built heritage of the town. Karaikal doesn’t have a specific set of guidelines for preservation, conservation and restoration of heritage according to their character, which makes the built heritage even more vulnerable when they are reconstructed. Hence, the thesis investigates, and understands the historic fabric and urban identity of the town to re-establish its historic significance to protect it as a heritage town. It also studies the cultural pluralism present in the precinct to understand the coexistence of different cultures and their significant relation with the town. Through documentation, the architectural, cultural and spatial aspects of the town are analysed and the heritages were listed. Conservation strategies and guidelines for the delineated core zone are proposed to preserve the built heritage of Karaikal. There is an effective need for conservation of these heritage along with its cultural identity to maintain its authenticity and integrity. These site specific recommendations will help both public and private to design, alter or restore historic buildings in an heritage environment.
feeding assistive device for people with hand impairment
Differently abled people has different types of challenges in their daily life. Some incidents effects people life slowly or suddenly. People has to to adopt their life according to the problem. In these situation Assistive Devices can really help differently abled people or person who has problem in doing daily life activities. As a Designer I started with visiting hospitals, NGOs and other places to understand different problems due to disability. I have identified one basic problem that people who has problem in their hands they can’t eat properly or they has to dependent on others. People may suffer with the hand problem due to various reason like Spinal Cord Disorder, Polio, Paralysis etc. So this project is about Designing a Feeding Assistive Device for people with hand impairment. The solution which I design is a Manual Powered operated by the Arm movement and a spoon is attached to have food. The solution is designed with the help of human centric design approach

The thesis delves into the evolving landscape of cruise tourism, examining the global trends, market potential, and economic impact of this industry. It analyses the unique characteristics of Visakhapatnam, including its rich cultural heritage, scenic coastline, and proximity to tourist attractions, which position it as a prime destination for cruise liners and passengers seeking immersive experiences. By understanding the specific requirements and challenges associated with cruise terminal design, this thesis proposes a comprehensive architectural solution that addresses functional needs, passenger flow, security measures, sustainability considerations, and integration with the existing urban fabric. The design emphasizes the creation of a welcoming and efficient terminal environment, incorporating amenities such as check-in facilities, customs and immigration procedures, passenger services, retail outlets, and recreational spaces. This thesis presents an opportunity to unlock the full potential of Visakhapatnam as a thriving cruise tourism destination by designing an international cruise terminal that meets the needs of both passengers and the local community. Through a thoughtful and sustainable design approach, this project aims to contribute to the city's economic growth, promote cultural exchange, and create an exceptional and memorable experience for cruise tourists visiting Visakhapatnam

promoting financial literacy among working women
According to data, 80% of Indian women entrust their financial management to their husbands or fathers. Additionally, more than 62% of Indian women do not have bank accounts of their own. Males predominate strongly in the field of financial literacy, particularly in low-income families. Women are frequently not provided with the support or space to learn about financial issues. They are frequently left in the dark, which causes ignorance when it comes to bank accounts and financial planning. Financial awareness covers a range of financial knowledge including knowing how to manage one’s finances efficiently with the use of the various tools available like Investments, online payment, ATMs, banking services, etc. The project aims to understand the study of the gender gap in financial literacy in India. And make women financially literate to take their own decision in making investments
