    The need for inclusion of street vendors in the urban planning process has been acknowledged through the Street Vendor’s Act of 2014, which directs responsibilities to urban local bodies to prepare street vending plans at the ward and zonal level every five years. Even though the Act introduces much-needed basis for the planning of street vendors through ‘no vending zone’, ‘restriction-free zone’, ‘restricted vending zone," and ‘holding capacity’ in terminology; it does not provide any basis for the "determination of spatial planning norms’ for street vending plans. As per the Act, pedestrian, traffic count, and road width are considered the only quantifiable basis for zoning, which excludes the effect of spatial configuration on street vending. Existing literature talks about policy measures to include vendors, the socioeconomic scenario of vendors, and the location choice of vendors, but fails to provide any basis for determining spatial planning norms. If planners knew how to predict occurrence of street vendors based on the spatial configuration of one area, it would be possible for them to develop planning strategies for Street Vending Plan. This thesis dwells on the research question of how spatial configuration impacts street vending locations, considering Old Bhopal as a case example. Spatial configuration parameters like street network, land use, and built form have been considered as these are related to the concept of space utilization by vendors and movement. To understand how such aspects impact vending, microscale urban analysis has been done using the space syntax method for street networks, urban porosity for built form, and land use diversity. A Poisson regression analysis has been done with the mentioned parameters as independent variables and the no of stationary street vendors as a dependent variable. Analysis reveals that a percentage of residential land use has a negative impact, while degree of permeability, i.e., the percentage of openings on the ground floor facing the street has a positive and significant impact on the no of stationary vendors. The integration measure of space syntax has a positive but very less significant impact on street vending. With the help of this regression equation, it is possible to predict the no of stationary street vendors in any area based on spatial configuration. This thesis contributes to the methodology of preparing street vending plans, adds knowledge to the concept of the economic value of streets, and contributes to the literature on the effect of spatial configuration on socioeconomic aspects. Recommendations were given for the Old Bhopal Street Vending Plan, which can be followed and implemented by the Bhopal Municipal Corporation through stakeholder meetings with Bhopal Town Vending Committee and police

    The areas based on resources and developed accordingly, eventually contend with a variety of pressures because of the depletion of resources leading to restructuring of the economic system. A streamlined environmental betterment and economic transition significant of resource-depleting mining sites has been enabled. The Western Coal Fields hold the second highest abandoned coal mine sites pursuant to Ministry of Coal, Government of India. With a vision of understanding the current scenario at the site followed by identifying land uses by preparing a site map, with the fundamental step of understanding the environmental suitability, conducting preliminary survey, preference of locals leading to factors influencing the type of activity for that area, viability of the alternate land use in the reclaimed mine site with driving forces, and collection of documental information regarding the land use activity to be proposed will lead to the restoration of the area. Cooking is found across all culture, ethnicity, religion, etc. As truckers in India are considered the backbone of the Indian economy, just like trucks need fuel to carry on, organic food is the fuel for the machine who is made of flesh and blood, hence who operates. Being trucker in India is one of the toughest job. It demands tough mind, strong stomach and constant alertness. Hence, above all, they are not deprived of food, neither they should be at any cost. With a tiny salary, they have no affordance to get food in dhabas or joints near highways, and regular consumption affects health.     In India, Religious tourism is an essential part of the lives of most of the country's population. It contributes to a sizeable portion of all kinds of tourism in the country. Tourism is an important activity that contributes to the economy and well-being. Religious tourism serves as an essential component of the tourism activity that is gaining traction among researchers and policymakers around the globe. The PRASHAD scheme launched for the betterment of religious destinations in India calls for the competitiveness of these destinations, making it essential to assess them for their potential and weaknesses. This research aims to find ways to assess the religious tourism destination competitiveness. The cities of Ujjain and Omkareshwar are known for the presence of jyotirlingas in them and have been selected for this study. Although the two sites may not be directly comparable on an urban scale, as Ujjain also serves as the district headquarter, whereas Omkareshwar is still a small city in the Khandwa district, they are comparable as religious tourism destinations. The study also highlights the difference between religious and pilgrim tourism as understood from literature to clarify confusion arising from the topic. It does not indulge in exploring competition in religious beliefs or their religious significance or importance but is focused on exploring the competitiveness of these destinations as religious tourism destinations. The study utilises the World Economic Forum's destination competitiveness model with slight modifications and the introduction of weights to the selected factors. This model was selected as this solves the problem of combining the qualitative and quantitative scores of indicators faced with other destination competitiveness models, such as “The Dwyer and Kim Model” and “The Crouch and Ritchie Model” of destination competitiveness. The research relied on a comprehensive literature review to determine the factors and indicators affecting religious tourism destinations' competitiveness. Furthermore, the “Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory” (DEMATEL) iv decision-making model was used for ranking and correlating these factors to determine their effect on the competitiveness of these destinations. The study found that the most influencing factors were government expenditure, capital investment in travel and tourism, tourist service infrastructure, and the intangible culture associated with the place. The study analyses the study sites in these factors to identify the limitations hampering the competitiveness of these destinations and proposes strategies for addressing them. The suggested strategies aim to enhance the competitiveness of the selected religious tourism destinations, offering valuable insights for stakeholders and policymakers in the tourism industry

    The world we live in is becoming increasingly sensitive to environmental change and damage. As such, it is important that we protect the areas that are still pristine and untouched. Eco-sensitive areas are those that are especially vulnerable to environmental disturbances and need to be protected. These areas are home to a variety of flora and fauna and are important sources of fresh water and other natural resources. They serve as important natural habitats for many species of animals, birds, and insects. Eco-sensitive areas are different from other types of protected areas in that they are managed and maintained in a way that does not disturb the natural balance of the environment. This means that human activity is restricted in order to preserve the integrity of natural resources. For instance, certain activities, such as hunting, logging, and mining, are strictly prohibited in these areas There has been this alarming trend observed in many Indian cities that the sprawl is engulfing the surrounding eco-sensitive areas with activities like developing properties, setting up an institutional campus, mining, etc. Reports like ISFR, 2021, the WISA annual report, and MoEFCC data support the same. The health of these eco-sensitive areas is being hampered by urbanization. The area around Kerwa and Kaliyasot Dam, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, which is an eco-sensitive zone due to tiger movement in the area and city forest. There have been around eight NGT cases filed in the last five years in this area regarding encroaching development. Therefore, the notion is to study and analyze the possible reasons behind these activities and developments. Possible explanations include ambiguities in Development Control Regulations; the state government indirectly acting as a catalyst and triggering development in these areas or impacts from previous years' development plans, or the real estate industry playing a significant role. Furthermore, the study intends to recommend spatial interventions in order to regulate development in this area, considering the ecological and biological value of the study area
