This Thesis has aimed to better understand and insight the topic of "Generation of Economic Opportunities in Salarpur village, Patna" is a critical and timely issue as it focuses on the ways in which economic growth and development can be fostered in the Salarpur Village. The study examines the various factors that contribute to economic development, including infrastructure, human capital, and government policies. Public libraries play a vital role in knowledge-based societies by continuously adapting to emerging communication methods and serving as inclusive spaces for all members of society. Their core mission is to ensure universal access to information and enable meaningful engagement with knowledge for everyone. Public libraries act as a valuable "third space" that bridges communities and facilitates the exchange of information and ideas. According to the World Reading Habit Statistics 2021, “India, China, and Thailand spend the most time reading. Although they read frequently, they are not most literate. These low literacy levels are primarily attributed to limited accessto libraries, newspapers, and computers” (World Reading Habit, n.d.). In the present-day case scenario, most of the public libraries in India act as a passive repository of information that lack social connect, while maintaining a bureaucratic environment. Navi Mumbai, a planned satellite city that has been in existence for 50 years, currently has approximately 19 small libraries spread out across various nodes. The city heavily depends on Mumbai for its literary and cultural offerings. Thoughtfully designed public libraries possess the capacity to transform into knowledge hubs that serve as nexus for literary, cultural, archival, material and social domains. There lies an exceptional opportunity for Navi Mumbai to cultivate its own distinct social and literary culture. Globally, the pace of increment is maximum for the proportion of senior-citizen people (age 60 and above) when compared to any other age group. The senior citizen's major share, i.e., around eighty percent, will be living in developing countries within five decades. (WHO,2020, Active aging baseline report). With this continuous growth, the number of senior-citizen will double, from 11% in 2006 to 22% by 2050, as the share of the global population. Incorporating age-friendly concepts into planning principles to make life easier for older people is particularly important. The Rural Health Information Hub defines 'aging in place' as 'the ability to live safely, independently and comfortably in one's own home and community, regardless of age, income or ability level'. The World Health Organization is urging cities to transform into age-friendly hubs to assist older people to reach and use their full potential. “Active aging” is the term adopted by WHO, to convey “the need of optimizing opportunities for health, participation, and security to enhance the quality of life of the aging population”. The neighbourhood encourages active aging by providing a healthy physical and social environment. It plays a key role in the life of older people as their interaction domain shrinks with age and they became increasingly dependent on the neighbourhood facilities for physical activities and neighbours for community interaction. Walkable neighbourhood streets and public spaces are ideal for seniors to enjoy walking (active travel), jogging and yoga. The research aims to study the senior-citizen-friendly neighbourhood perspective in physical planning. It will be achieved by understanding the relationship between the built environment and physical and social activities and finalizing the senior-citizen friendliness indicators from guidelines, best studies, and focus group discussions. Apart from physical indicators concept of “Age-in -place” which is the ability to age and grow old in the same place irrespective of gender, income, etc. has been added as it has an impact on physical and social activity undertaken by senior citizens. The study area (two neighborhoods) was selected in ABSTRACT Planning Intervention for senior citizen friendly neighbourhood v Gurugram city because of the increased cases of social isolation of senior citizens in the city. The neighborhoods are selected based on two parameters – the development type and length of senior-citizen residents. For comparing the neighborhoods, quantitative and qualitative analysis was done and the final weights for each parameter and sub-parameter were assigned through Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). Finally, the assessment provided the opportunity to understand the gaps of the two neighborhoods, and the neighborhood with the lesser score is taken up for the further stage of the proposal. The neighborhood is proposed to be universal inclusive and should have intergenerational spaces. Location for the intervention were finalized by overlapping different layers and the proposals for road improvement and interactive public space were proposed
Locational siting of a fuel station
The locational siting of fuel stations plays a crucial role in ensuring efficient and accessible fuel distribution networks while considering various factors. This thesis presents a comprehensive analysis of the locational siting process for fuel stations, aiming to identify the optimal placement strategies to meet the evolving needs of the transportation sector. The study begins by reviewing the existing literature on fuel station siting, examining the key factors that influence the decision-making process. The research then delves into data collection methodologies. Furthermore, various data analysis techniques are employed to process and analyse the gathered data. Using this comprehensive dataset, the thesis proposes a multi-criteria decision-making framework for evaluating potential fuel station locations. The framework encompasses quantitative factors, including proximity to major highway intersections, Peak hour volume, Average traffic volume and Lane width of adjoining road, Service capacity, Competitors in the surrounding area, Distance from the nearest fuel station, Traffic speed, Plot area available for fuel station and additional facilities provided. To validate the proposed framework, a case study is conducted in Pondicherry and Cuddalore district. The study applies the framework to assess potential fuel station sites with existing fuel station locations in the region. The study employs a data-driven approach, utilizing historical fuel consumption data other relevant variables to create a fuel demand estimation model. By analysing and integrating these factors, the model aims to accurately forecast the potential fuel demand at a particular location. The research findings contribute to the existing body of knowledge by offering a systematic approach to fuel station siting, considering multiple factors, and providing decision-makers with a robust tool to guide their choices. Moreover, the study provides insights into the challenges and opportunities associated with the locational siting of fuel stations, paving the way for future research, policy development and stakeholder benefits in this field

Tribal communities around the world face inequities and exclusion in terms of educational, health, and living standards. They are recognized as early habitats and their human development performance is lower than subsequent populations. The National Family Health Survey found that the socio-economic condition of the tribe is very low. The tribal population constitutes 8% of the total scheduled tribe population of India. For numerous generations, the communities inhabiting this area have resided in a state of geographic seclusion, safeguarding their unique agricultural practices, limited access to essential services, and grappling with persistent socio-economic challenges. It is crucial to promptly conduct a comprehensive analysis of the region's farming resources, living conditions, means of sustenance, and evaluate their sustainability, particularly in the context of natural resource management and the prevailing socio-economic circumstances. The concept of liveability is becoming increasingly important as a measure of the quality of life in communities around the world. Tribal communitiesface unique challenges and opportunities when it comes to achieving a high levelof liveability. The culturally evolved and perceived knowledge about ecology is conceptualized as Traditional knowledge and skills in this study. Several studies highlight that Eco literacy, which is applied traditional knowledge, helps in determining livelihood strategies and enhances human well-being. However, there were limited studies that focused on the interrelationship among Traditional Skills (Environment), Basic services (Infrastructure, liveability indicator) and well-being. In this backdrop, the present study aimed to develop a theoretical framework for evaluating liveability of tribal communities and explore the interrelationship among Traditional Skills, Basic Services and well-being comprises of liveability thatensures livelihood resilience of tribal community. This study highlights the assess of evaluating liveability of tribal community of Jharkhand. Present study also intended to investigate the liveability indicator through existing condition with respect to community driven approach. Role and Assessment Framework for evaluating Liveability of Tribal Community: A Case of Jharkhand iii influence of various institutions, how government schemes have benefited the tribal to uplift livelihood and investigate the areas where improvement is required,what are the adoption strategies and policy to mitigate those problems were also the prior concerns of the study. To achieve these goals, a mixed-methods approach are used, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis techniques in which a total of 200 sampling were selected from 10 village of 3 GP from three different District (Ranchi, Khunti and Lohardaga) of Jharkhand. Data were collected using Participatory Rural Appraisal, FGD and fieldobservation being the dominant methods. The collected data were analysedquantitatively and qualitatively. Descriptive and inferential statistics along with multinomial logit model have been employed to analyse the data. In this Study, webuilt and applied an indicator-based framework to characterize the liveability strategies of tribal community, local historical trends, to assess how these strategies contribute to their adaptive capacity. The framework utilized the Liveability Resilience Measurement (LRM) framework and the Doughnut model. By examining income-generating activities as livelihood strategies within farming households, the study assessed the influence of liveability indicators and their context in response to environmental changes. This analysis aimed to identify the adoption of strategies and their connection to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) climate change adaptation, vulnerability, and impacts. The study also utilized Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA), employing the TOPSIS method to rank the liveability indicators across different study areas and prioritize indicators in need of attention. The effectiveness of the method was tested through correlation analysis and multinomial regression to analyse the relationship between liveability indicators and socio-demographic factors. The study explored and discussed the advantages and limitations of the framework. Additionally, it provided insights into how to engage with stakeholders to identify and strengthen factors that contribute to liveability resilience. Assessment Framework for evaluating Liveability of Tribal Community: A Case of Jharkhand iv The study found that health, social cohesion, financial support, employment, and public services were the most significant factors contributing to liveability. As a result, the framework has the potential to assist communities in safeguarding their livelihoods and livability assets, while also enabling governments to enhance social welfare. The framework can thus serve as a valuable tool for monitoring and improving the effectiveness of policies and practices aimed at building liveability resilience. Furthermore, the study recognized that the tribal community's perception of their connection to their environment is influenced by their perception of capital and the enabling environment, which are derived from their cultural values. The outcome of this study is the development of a theoretical framework for understanding the rural liveability based on real-world data. This framework can be used to monitor key factors comprising the social, environmental, health, cultural, and economic components of tribal communities. It provides a practical tool for assessing liveability in other tribal communities. The study highlights the importance of culturally evolved Traditional Skills in determining livelihood strategies and its role as an important element of the indigeneity and identity of tribal communities. The research proposes the theory of Triadic Interrelationship of liveability, which emphasizes the strong nexus among Traditional Skills, basic services, and wellbeing that contributes to the tribal community's liveability. The study's findings will contribute to the growing body of knowledge on liveability in tribal communities and provide insights into the unique challenges and opportunities faced by these communities in achieving a high quality of life. Moreover, this research will provide a policy or research framework for bridging the gap that will empower and enable tribal communities to define liveability and create a plan of action to attain these goals

In India, urbanization rate is high and as a result, it is estimated from the growth rate that by 2050, there will be 814 million people living in urban regions. Urban local bodies face challenges in meeting the demands of this expanding population while offering the necessary infrastructure, mobility, transit, affordable housing, and other services. While focusing on supplying essential requirements, there is a lack of attention paid to its built form and surrounding environment. For the controlled development cities in India follows Euclidian Zoning and development control parameter which controls the urban form and development pattern in quantitative aspects. Following this quantitatively controlled development the urban forms developed are more function driven and less in qualitative aspects. To overcome this issues Form-Based Codes are derived from the concept of New Urbanism and turned out to be an effective tool in opposition to the conventional tool for improving the quality of life in urban areas by introducing more predictable built form and public realm. Adhering to this India has also developed Form-Based Code policy Framework in recent years. The adoption of Form-Based Codes is new and challenging for urban bodies. Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation Limited (IRSDC) a SPV of Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) which controls the development on Railway Land has developed the Form-Based Code for the Commercial Development of railway land considering the existing control regulations and Transit orient development (TOD) Policy. Indian Railways, considered to be lifeline of nation and played a major role in the economic development of nation. Cities such as Delhi and Mumbai have public transit commuter populations, as large as 5 million (or more) every day. Railway stations and their surroundings are generally identified as having high potential for development possibilities. Indian Railways has taken an initiative to modernize railway stations for which different revenue generation model is explored. The revenue model of leasing out land for commercial development to private developers will generate revenue for the station’s development. This infill commercial development is controlled by developed FBCs at Sub-Plot level. This Assessing the Benefit of Form-Based Code to stakeholders: A Case of Bijwasan Railway Station, New Delhi 6 development affects different stakeholders i.e., Regulating body, developer, and users. The thesis has made an attempt to adopt the concept of FBC for development of railway station premises after considering best practice across the world. The concept of Local area planning around transit also explored for better understanding of planning aspect to be considered around the transit. Elements of FBC are taken from Manual of Form Based Controls for Station (Re) development and an attempt has been made to validate their significance on the existing built environment of a brownfield study area of New Delhi Railway Station. A detailed documentation of selected area in terms of their existing built form, street patterns and activities, and public spaces has been done through primary surveys and analyzed their influence on urban form at two different level: Zone level and Plot level. The study further explores the case study of MiamiCentral transit area where form-based code was implemented. A comparative analysis was done for the case studies and their outcomes were used to build scenarios. The study concludes with incorporation of FBCs developed scenarios on Bijwasan Railway Station site. These scenarios provide suggestions for the form-based code to achieve the desirable urban built form

The paper also provides practical design strategies and case studies that illustrate how gender-neutral principles can be applied to design women-centric spaces effectively. These are the infrastructure or development which are established to provide the facility of refreshment and rest areas to the commuters of the highways and expressways during their longdistance journeys. As in long distance journeys it develops fatigue, which is a cause of accidents on roads. So, by considering both the passengers as well as drivers, these facilities are provided. It is essential in making the journey safe for them along the different hierarchy of roads. Due to the absence of these facilities, there are more chances of accidents happening on those routes. As India has the largest road network, which is spanning a total of 5.89 million kilometres, because of which it is the second largest road network in the world. These networks carry a huge traffic and vehicles throughout the day and night. In India, MoRTH (Ministry of Roadways Transportation and Highways) has given the provision of wayside amenities. The MoRTH (Ministry of Road Transport and Highways) is focusing on providing the facilities of these wayside amenities along different highways and upcoming green expressways in 22 different states all over India. As, it is very convenient and comfortable in fatigue reduction during their long-distance journeys. Also, these facilities can play different roles like in the case of Japan it acts as a regional centre which helps them in tourism functioning or it can act as a basic and supplementary service provider during disasters. But the involvement of higher capital investments and difficulty in footfall and revenue projections is not attracting the private parties. So, it is essential to focus in this sector as there are upcoming amenities. This thesis aims to identify and analyse the preferences of services and their sub factors in existing amenities across the location from different perspectives of experts, users, and operators. Planning for healthcare services using geospatial artificial intelligence (geo -ai) in the peri urban areas of Varanasi
The rapidly increasing population in peri-urban areas in India has put tremendous strain on the healthcare system. With limited resources, it has become difficult to provide adequate healthcare services to the people living in these areas. This thesis addresses the healthcare challenges faced by peri-urban areas in India, with a focus on Varanasi. The inadequate provision of healthcare facilities and unequal distribution of resources are significant issues in these regions. By using geo-spatial data and AI algorithms, healthcare providers can make data-driven decisions to improve access to healthcare services, reduce health disparities, and prevent and control the spread of infectious diseases. The potential of GeoAI in healthcare is immense. The study aims to plan for provision of healthcare and healthcare services in the peri-urban areas of Varanasi using Geo-AI. by identifying gaps in the current healthcare system and proposing technology-based solutions. The main objectives include identifying shortcomings in peri-urban healthcare sectors, performing a gap assessment, and developing a GeoAI model to reduce the identified gaps. The theoretical frameworks of GeoAI, machine learning, and deep learning models guide the research. the advances in artificial intelligence (AI) and geospatial technology have enabled healthcare providers and policymakers to effectively address this challenge. AI and geospatial technology can help healthcare systems in peri-urban areas identify, analyse, and visualize spatial patterns and trends that can inform decisions relating to healthcare access and quality. By leveraging spatial data and AI techniques, healthcare providers and policymakers can make data-driven decisions to improve healthcare access and quality, reduce disparities, and prevent and control disease. By mapping healthcare services and population density, healthcare providers and policymakers can gain insights into where additional resources need to be allocated. GeoAI can also be used to identify areas where there is a high prevalence of certain diseases or risk factors. Data collection methods include household surveys to study the relationship between socio-economic indicators and healthcare choices, facility surveys to examine the quality of existing healthcare infrastructure, and focused group discussions to gather in-depth community opinions. A total of 70 samples were collected for the primary survey. The results include the development of a model to evenly distribute healthcare facilities and the creation of a mobile application to increase accessibility and simplify healthcare provision. The thesis contributes to iv improving healthcare services and accessibility in peri-urban areas through the utilization of GeoAI techniques
