    Deep Vein Thrombosis is a blood clot that commonly forms in the calf muscle due to its long and narrow veins. Lack of movement, injury, and other factors increase the risk and can cause pain, swelling, and if a clot travels to the lungs, it can be life-threatening. CircuFLEX is a DVT Compression Sleeve that uses air pressure to massage and stimulate limb circulation, helping prevent DVT. It is worn around the calf muscle, replicating manual massage through sequential inflation and deflation. Geriatric patients encounter challenges with compression sleeves, including limited mobility, reduced skin elasticity, and thermal comfort concerns.     Mass transit transportation, such as buses and trains, plays a crucial role in the daily lives of people in India. It offers opportunities for creating new memories and receiving feedback. However, Indian railways often lack essential facilities, making travel challenging for passengers. The elderly population forms an important segment of Indian Railways' passengers. Over time, they have become increasingly reliant on trains for both their livelihood and leisure activities. Unfortunately, elderly travelers face numerous challenges during their train journeys. Although Indian Railways has introduced various facilities like wheelchairs, low berth quotas, and concessions, the process of availing these services is often complex and poorly structured. As a result, many people are unaware of these provisions. With approximately 2.3 crore people traveling on Indian Railways daily, it is estimated that around 3-4 percent of commuters are differently-abled and require disabled-friendly facilities at stations. It is crucial to address the accessibility needs of this segment to ensure their safety and comfort while traveling.     The state was founded in 1652 A.D. by a great-grandson of Raja Udai Singh of Jodhpur, namely Raja Ratan Singhji, son of Mahesh Das of Jalor. Who belonged to the Jodhpur royal family, of the Rathore dynasty. Although, the settlement is presently in the old Ratlam city District in Madhya Pradesh. In India, the region is a part of the Malwa plateau and is located in a plain area. The palace, which is the primary heritage resource for the settlement, along with other built heritage resources of the settlement, is presently in a state of neglect and disrepair due to various natural and human-induced factors and issues, and requires immediate attention in terms of structural repair and restoration. Majority of the spaces within the palace are put under incompatible use such as office and storage spaces, due to which various spatial transformations and insensitive interventions have been done. There has been a significant rise in the adaptive reuse sector in the past few years. India, with its rich heritage, culture and tradition has finally found strength in its roots. The adaptive reuse of heritage buildings in the form of hotels, museums, galleries, etc. has ensured a sustainable approach and also has inserted a sense of pride in the hearts of the people regarding their past. If the palace is left to its present-day condition and spatial use, there is a high probability of it reaching a stage of severe damage and insensitive transformation. Therefore, a comprehensive, heritage-centric, and sensitive conservation approach needs to be adopted in order to restore the palace back to its former significance. This thesis articulates the process of transformation as the vehicle for the adaptive reuse of heritage buildings in our contemporary condition

    Analysing predestrian crossing behaviour at uncontrolled crosswalks

    Pedestrian safety is a critical concern in urban areas, particularly at uncontrolled crosswalks where pedestrians face unique challenges. This thesis aims to analyse pedestrian behaviour at uncontrolled crosswalks and develop strategies to improve pedestrian safety. By examining various factors that influence pedestrian crossing behaviour and assessing safety conditions, this research seeks to contribute to a better understanding of pedestrian behaviour and provide recommendations for enhanced pedestrian safety measure. A mixed-methods approach was employed for data collection and analysis. Videographic data was collected at selected uncontrolled crosswalks, capturing pedestrian movements and interactions with vehicles. The Post Encroachment Time is used as a safety assessment metric, measuring the time difference between the pedestrian leaving the potential conflict point and the vehicle reaching the same point. Pedestrian surveys and observations were also conducted to gather information on pedestrian demographics. The analysis of pedestrian behaviour data yielded valuable insights into the factors influencing pedestrian crossing behaviour. Traffic conditions, such as vehicle speed and volume, is found to significantly impact pedestrian decision-making. Pedestrian demographics, including age, gender, and physical capabilities, also influenced crossing behaviour. The assessment of safety conditions using PET revealed the level of risk associated with each crosswalk. Based on the findings, several recommendations are proposed to improve pedestrian safety at uncontrolled crosswalks. One key recommendation is to incorporate behaviour-based design strategies into the planning and design of crosswalks. This involves creating intuitive and predictable infrastructure that encourages safe pedestrian behaviour

    Assessing inefficiencies in urban freight flows of agrarian commodities

    India has seen an unprecedented growth in its economic prowess in recent years. This has been possible due to the major government interventions and push to the industry. Logistics is an important pillar in the growth of any industry and nation. It represents five percent of India’s GDP1 . India handles 4.5 billion tonne freight every year leading to a total cost of INR 9.5 lakh crore2 . These goods represent a variety of commodities like agricultural commodities (22%), mining products (39%) and manufacturing related commodities (39%) respectively3 . India also is said to spend 14% of its GDP in logistics which is high compared to other major economies. Urban Freight sector is a major part of the entire gamut. It is defined as “Urban freight transport is defined as all movements of goods in to, out from, through or within the urban area made by light or heavy vehicles, also including service transport and demolition traffic, online shopping trips made by private households and waste (reverse logistics). This excludes all personal movements”4 . It has been found that urban freight alone is responsible for 50% of the total transportation cost, which is high when put in the entire supply chain cost. There has not been much research in the domain as well even when optimizing on this part of the logistics can reduce costs considerably. Also, the research which is available in Europe and US does not clearly imply with India for its nature. The transportation sector in India is very disaggregated, when it comes to urban freight the picture is even more blur. Data availability with respect to the domain is another very big challenge which many researchers face due to which the studies in the domain are considerably less. All these reasons contribute to making the study of urban freight even more important. With National Logistics Policy and initiatives like Gati Shakti and others have been important steps to make a quantum leap. But without the study of this sector which involves last, first at times middle mile deliveries and the work would be incomplete. Which is why this study is an attempt to assess the inefficiencies in the urban freight flows of agrarian commodities. It is destined to assess and identify inefficiencies that plague the system and render it inefficient and costly, time consuming and suggest possible interventions to improve the situation. To achieve the aim certain objectives have been defined: a) to understand the costs, and processes involved in the urban freight flows, b) to determine and assess the factors affecting the urban freight flows, c) to recommend improvements/ changes to improve the flows and reduce the costs. The scope of the study is limited to road-based freight flows due to their high share in the urban areas. Due to limited availability of time, human resources and scarcity of secondary data, the study focusses on certain commodities in detail, along with this the time of the study is between December 2022 to May 2023 where the data collection was done in January & February 2023. An extensive literature review was carried out extracting literature using Google Scholar using the relevant keywords. An array of articles, reports from government and private agencies were also studied. It was observed that the available literature is very recent. The site selected for the study is Kanpur which is the industrial powerhouse of the state of Uttar Pradesh. State is ranks among top three in production of wheat, rice and sugarcane and is a leader in production of many other commodities. The state has approximately 65% of its population employed in agricultural activities. Kanpur is also one of the largest trading centres for may agricultural commodities in the state and region after Delhi which is why its eminent to study this area in detail. The commodities selected for study are wheat, rice and mustard because of the production, trading, and processing volumes in the area. Stakeholder discussions were conducted to map the supply chains, understand the process and costs along with the challenges. Followed by primary and secondary data collection. The primary surveys involved OD survey at APMC. Establishment surveys were conducted of the processors, traders, and transporters. The outcomes based on the identification of inefficiencies in quantitative terms that affect the supply chain and freight flows include interventions in three realms which are cost, infrastructure and policy. Infrastructural interventions may include location decisions, decentralized operations of the APMC. Cost related interventions may include trip decisions, vehicle decisions, cost optimization strategies. Whereas policy related interventions may include location specific mandates, restrictions, infrastructure and operational facilitation, shared usage strategies to name a few. During the time of this study, it has been found that data gaps must be investigated to make informed decisions. Lack of data is not only a hurdle in the research but is also an issue that leads to vague increase in the costs

    India is a country rich in cultural variety, with a wide range of cultural landscapes and a rich history. These cultural landscapes have always evolved to meet the requirements of the populace and the necessities of a shifting society. Culture has always had an impact on how people and heritage built-up interact, shaping the built environment and forming a part of heritage. The stories, beliefs, culture, heritage built-up elements and the settlement around it all contribute to the city's character because of the mutual link between the city and its inhabitants. Any landscape that wants to exist must develop and adapt to contemporary requirements; otherwise, people will stop connecting with it, and it will finally disappear. Yet, these modifications must be performed while respecting the continuation of the forms of knowledge and the heritage's integrity. The new development shouldn't have a negative impact on the community. Orchha is a small town in the state of Madhya Pradesh. It has a very strong religious, cultural, historic, and natural significance, locally and nationally. The former capital of the Bundela region was Orchha. The Raja Ram Sarkar Mandir, Hardaul Samadhi and the Chaturbhuj Mandir make up the religious core, while forts on one side and chhatris (Memorials) on the other, forms the historic center. It has recently been included in the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage sites and it has a huge potential to attract many tourists. Thesis: "Conserving the Heritage through HUL Approach - A Case of Orchha Town" This thesis proposes the development of Orchha historic landscape via HUL approach by studying and comprehending the Historic Urban Landscape approach and IHCDP in India and by evaluating the historic, natural, and cultural layering of Orchha city on the basis of the HUL toolkit to propose a comprehensive spatial development of Orchha historic urban landscape.     The field of transportation planning has undergone a significant transformation in the past decade with the advent of Ride-Hailing Services (RHS). As Transportation Network Companies (TNCs) continue to grow in popularity, there is a need to understand the implications of these services on urban mobility. One way to gain insights into the movement of Ride-Hailing services is by utilizing Big Data. Uber Technologies Inc.'s “Uber Movement Data”, an anonymized dataset that includes trip times from one zone to another, has the potential to provide new insights that can improve decision-making during the planning process. This study focuses on the demand and spatiotemporal usage patterns for RideHailing Services in Delhi, broken down quarterly between 2016 to 2019. The demand and supply of Ride-Hailing Services are studied spatially as well as through in-degree and weighted in-degree analysis and then linked with land use and public transport availability. An interesting relationship between Public Transport and Ride Hailing Services is understood by superimposing the Transit Supply Index (TSI). It has been observed that Ride-Hailing Service production and Production are linked to government and transportation land use, whereas residential and recreational land use is linked to ride-hailing service attraction. Additionally, areas with better public transportation availability tend to attract more Ride-Hailing Services. The primary survey indicated that there is a lack of last-mile connectivity which causes people to shift towards Ride-Hailing Services instead of Public Transportation. The findings of this study can also help in identifying zones where dynamic on-demand services can be implemented. In addition, the findings from this data are investigated to be applied to various policy implications of decision-making for the planning process. These findings can be useful for policymakers and government authorities to lead to a better future. There are currently very few global studies and no significant national studies; therefore, it is necessary to establish the utilization of such data-driven studies
