Haematological parameter among drug resistant tuberculosis patients in Ibadan
Background: Haematological abnormalities are common among tuberculosis patients but there is dearth of information on their value as prognostic markers in Multidrug resistant tuberculosis patients. This study examined the association between complete blood count variables and drug resistant tuberculosis. Materials and methods: Nighty (90) consenting adults comprising 30 Drug Resistant Tuberculosis patients (DR-TB), 30 Drug susceptible tuberculosis patients (DS-TB) and 30 healthy participants were recruited in this study. Ethical approval was obtained from Oyo State Ministry of Health Institutional Review Board while patients' demographic data were collected using structured questionnaire. Five milliliters (5mL) of blood samples were collected in EDTA bottle. Haematological parameters were analysed using impedance technique and Mindary-BG5380 5-part automated system. Result: The mean hemoglobin levels were significantly lower in DR-TB patients (11.70 ± 2.73 g/dL) than in DS-TB patients (8.33 ± 9.56 fL), with a mean difference of -3.37 ± 12.29 g/dL. The mean MCH and MCHC levels were also slightly lower in DR-TB patients (26.17 ± 3.44 pg and 30.41 ± 1.92 g/dL, respectively), but the differences were not statistically significant. The WBC count was similar in both groups (8.20 ± 3.80 × 109 /L and 8.45 ± 3.63 × 109 /L, respectively). Conclusion: The mean hemoglobin levels were significantly lower in DR-TB patients than in DS-TB patients which may be due to the increased inflammation associated with DR-TB. The WBC count was similar in both groups, suggesting that the immune system is responding similarly to the infection in both DR-TB and DS-TB patients. Recommendation: In the meantime, healthcare providers should be aware of these potential differences and use them to inform their diagnosis and treatment of patients with tuberculosis. Knowledge, attitude and practice of islamic moral and ethics among students of selected modern arabic schools in Ibadan
Islamic moral and ethics are enunciated through revelations which comprise the Qur’an and the
authentic teachings of the Prophet. Although studies reveal Islamic moral and ethics in the society, little research is available on the impact of Islamic moral and ethics among students of Arabic schools in Ibadan. Therefore, the study evaluates the knowledge, attitude and practice of Islamic moral and ethics among the students of selected modern Arabic schools in Ibadan. This qualitative and quantitative study explores the knowledge of Islamic moral and ethics as well as the students’ attitude and practice accordingly, using face-to- face in-depth interview with 200 students and 500 copies of questionnaire administered. Data collected through interview were thematically analysed and descriptive analysis was done for the questionnaires using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). Findings of this study showed the knowledge and understanding of the concepts of moral and ethical behaviours in the Qur’an and the Sunnah among the students. It established the attitude of Islamic moral and ethical behaviour among them and recorded negative practices of the knowledge and attitude. Study findings suggest the adoption of unified and upgraded texts for Arabic schools on moral and ethics to cater for 21st century challenges. The study recommends appreciation of academic excellence as well as moral uprightness to encourage students on morality in their immediate communit

Mathematics forms the bedrock of cognitive development for students logical reasoning and problem-solving abilities. However, the high failure rate among students in the subject remains a significant concern. Previous studies on students’ achievement in mathematics concentrated more on cooperative-based interventions than on game-based strategy using sudoku puzzles. Therefore, this study investigated the effects of sudoku puzzles on primary school pupils’ learning achievement in mathematics in Oyo state, Nigeria. It also examined the moderating effect of gender on dependent measures. The pretest-posttest control group quasi-experimental design with a 2x2 factorial matrix was utilised. The instruments used were the Pupils Mathematics Achievement Test (r=0.76) and the Teachers’ Instructional Guides. The treatment lasted six weeks. Data was analysed using Analysis of covariance and Scheffe post-hoc analysis at p<0.05. There was a significant two-way interaction effect of treatment and gender on pupils’ achievement in mathematics (F1,109) =28.89, partial η2=0.042). Although, the boys (19.67) benefited more from the treatment package than the girls (19.12), it was not significant. There were no significant main of treatment on pupils’ achievement. Sudoku puzzles instructional strategy improved pupils’ achievement in mathematics in Oyo state, Nigeria. Mathematics teachers in primary schools should adopt sudoku in teaching mathematics
Qualitative analysis of handedness, class participation and performance in an online mathematics class during covid-19 period
This study examined a qualitative analysis of handedness, class participation, and performance in an online mathematics class during the Covid-19 period. A qualitative method was adopted using observations and interviews to collect data during three different classes organized via a zoom online platform. Twenty-four students (12 left and 12 right-handers) were purposively and voluntarily selected based on their handedness. Five objectives were developed to guide the study. The results generally revealed no difference in the left-and right-handers’ performance in the online mathematics classes. Both the left-and right-handers learn at the same pace, participate in class discussion, and no difference was observed in both the left-and right-handers' overall performance. The study concluded that handedness has no impact on performance in online mathematics and is not a hindrance to learning in an online platform. The study recommends that since technology is having an important impact in streamlining performance in online mathematics class irrespective of handedness; there is a need for investment in online technology infrastructure; and that, social and instructional supports should be provided for all mathematics students in online classes to successfully learn with technology
Effectiveness of Socio-Constructive Collaboration Strategy on Post- Covid Primary School Children’s Learning Outcome in National Values
This study adopted socio-constructive collaboration strategy to enhance pupils’ learning outcome (social and cognitive skills) in national values after resumption from the compulsory closure of school for 6months. Quasi-experimental design was employed. Three hypotheses were raised and tested at 0.05 level of significance. 480 Primary one pupils from four public primary schools assigned to experimental and control within two local governments across four states participated in the study. The research spanned 15weeks. Validated instruments; Primary Pupils’ Achievement Test in National Values (PPATNV) and the Primary Pupils’ Social Skills Rating Scale (PPSSRC) were used to measure outcomes. Additionally, a Socio- constructive Pedagogical Instructional Guide (ScPIG) steered the delivery of the teaching and learning activities during the experiment. The study employed a statistical technique called analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) combined with a post-hoc test, especially the Bronfenbrenner test to analyse the pupils’ learning outcome. The results revealed significant positive effects of the intervention on both social skills and cognitive abilities (p<0.05) of pupils. Interestingly, school location also influences social skills. Furthermore, the intervention demonstrably improved students’ national values performance (p<0.05). The study concludes that a socio-constructivist collaborative teaching strategy significantly enhances pupils learning outcomes in areas related to social skills and cognitive development (national values comprehension). These findings suggest the potential benefits of adopting such strategies in primary school education for fostering well-rounded development in young learner

Digital technology as a tool for changing learning space for workers’ training in Nigeria
Workers are essential part of the organisational system because they represent the human capital resources that drive all other factors or parts of the system in a bid to achieve the organizational goal. In order to keep the workers abreast of changes and to ensure acquisition of requisite skills needed for optimal performance, there is always the need to engage the workers in training and retraining from time to time. Organization of trainings for workers come in different forms and types. There could be on the job training where workers are exposed to learning components while on duty at work. There could also be organization of training outside the workplace when workers take time off to undergo trainings which will help in additional skill acquisition. Facilitators used for workers training can either be internal or external facilitators depending on the needs and choice of organisers. However, with the emergence of technology and the recent occurrence like the world pandemic which nearly stopped all activities even at the workplace, there have been many evolutions on how activities at workplace can be carried out. This is also inclusive of training process which can afford the workers the opportunity to learn and improve their skills inspite of the limitations prevalent in the world. One would then think of exploring digital training for workers in Nigeria. This paper looks at the need for a change of learning space for Nigerian workers, opportunities in digital training, challenges of digital technology at the workplace for training and some suggestions on how to maximize the benefits for training Nigerian workers
