    Improved privacy Protection model for prevention of data over-collection in smart devices

This was achieved by designing a model using the security risk level of the applications and the corresponding class level of the users on the smartphone that will help in preventing smartphone apps from accessing and collecting users’ private data while still within the permission scope. Users can store information in the cloud environment where the huge numbers of users are involved. We develop a mobile agent simulator to generate data, and determine the security risk level of the apps on users’ data with the class level of the data. The permission model was designed to determine whether the app is granted permission to access user’s data or not. The data was trained with the use of Neural Network. The evaluation metrics used were accuracy and comparison. For accuracy, the algorithm was compared with the existing algorithm. The data analysis showed that there was restriction for apps accessing the users’ data. The model if deployed on the smartphone will prevent apps from over collect users’ data even while still within the permission scope. This study proved that neural network with mobile cloud computing can be applied to prevent data over-collection in smart devices

    Tree size structure of tectona grandis (Linn f.) stand in hilltop and valley-bottom of Omo Forest Reserve

    Variability of a microsite contributes to the size hierarchy in tree populations. Tree size symmetry varies with the available growth resources. However, competition hierarchy may not cause size symmetry in tree populations. The identification of mechanisms that determine size hierarchy has ecological significance in the management of a forest stand. Therefore, this study investigated the tree size structure of the Teak stand in the Hilltop and Valley-Bottom stands of the Omo Forest Reserve. A ten-year-old Teak plantation was delineated into Hilltop and Valley-Bottom stands based on topography. Five (30m x 30m) sample plots were systematically demarcated on 1 km transects in each stand. Tree stems with diameter at breast height (dbh) ≥ 10 cm were enumerated. Diameter at breast height and total height were measured using Girth tape and Spiegel Relaskop. Stem size inequality, diversity and stand attributes of both stands were evaluated for diameter and height. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive, correlation, regression analysis and t-test at α 0.05. Mean dbh and height in the Valley-Bottom stand (11.30 ± 4.82 cm dbh and 7.26 ± 3.21 m) were not significantly different from the Hilltop stand (10.19 ± 4.62 cm dbh and 7.12 ± 3.88 m). Stem density in the Hilltop stand (1431.0 stems/ha) was higher than in Valley-Bottom stand (1248.0 stems/ha). All distributions expressed unimodality, except the diameter distribution of the Valley-Bottom stand, which expressed bimodality. The inequality was strongly correlated with the diversity indices in dbh and height distributions in the Hilltop and Valley-Bottom stands, respectively. The same mechanism was responsible for the dbh and height structures of the Hilltop and Valley-Bottom stands, respectively. However, different mechanisms were responsible for the dbh and height structures of the Valley-Bottom and Hilltop stands, respectively

    A religious justification of the role of science in human reproduction

    ORITA 54 (1&2), pp. 88-103Giving birth to children is very important in many African societies, because children are portrayed as evidence of fruitfulness and blessings from God. In fact, there is a saying that children are the gains of a marriage. Amid this huge burden and societal expectations, some couples are encumbered with this weight as a result of some medical challenges in the area of procreation. Scientific advancements have offered interventions to mitigate this problem, as is evident in other human endeavors, where scientific solutions have come to the rescue through a number of reproductive technologies. Extant literature on human reproductive technology have focused largely on the procedures and ethical perspectives with scant attention paid to it from a Christian religious perspective. This study therefore, explored a religious justification of the role of science in human reproduction. This was with a view to addressing the concerns that have been raised by varying adherents of religions and schools of thought regarding the ethics of reproductive technologies. The aim of the study was to answer questions on whether reproductive technologies contravene the natural way of human reproduction and whether they tamper with the supremacy of God. The paper concludes that there is no justifiable reason for rejecting the gift of knowledge of God to humanity through science in the area of human reproduction using St. Augustine’s Concept of Knowledge that all human knowledge comes from God

    Evaluation of the antibacterial and antifungal potentials of peptide-rich extracts from selected Nigerian plants

    Introduction: Host defence peptides (HDPs) has gained wide recognition as a potential source of antimicrobial agents because of their abundance in nature, low incidence of reported resistance, and their immunomodulatory properties. This study investigated the presence and antimicrobial activities of bioactive peptides in seven selected plants from the Rubiaceae, Apocynaceae, and Euphorbiaceae families. Methods: The reversed-phase solid-phase extraction was used to obtain the peptide-rich fractions from the crude extracts of the plants, and the circular peptides were chemically detected by a modified G-250 spray on a developed TLC plate. The peptide fraction and crude extracts were screened for their antimicrobial activities using the broth microdilution method. The rate of kill study was conducted for the peptide fractions Euphorbia hirta and Nauclea diderichii Results: The study revealed Nauclea diderichii peptide-rich fraction as the most potent on the tested strains of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and fungi (MIC =7.8, 15.63-62.5, and 7.8 μg/mL respectively). Euphorbia hirta and Nauclea diderichii peptide fractions exhibited bactericidal activity (MIC index ≤4, and >3Log10 reduction of initial inoculum) and have a broad spectrum of activity, which further validates their ethnomedicinal use in the management of diverse infectious diseases, including enteric and respiratory tract infections. The peptide fractions of all the plants are more potent than the crude extracts. Conclusion: This study established the antimicrobial potentials of the peptide-rich fractions from these plant species, and the basis for further investigation to isolate and characterize the bioactive peptides responsible for their antimicrobial activities

    Two modes of out-of-classroom instructional strategy and youths' attitude to voter education programme in Ondo city

    The study investigated two modes of out-of-classroom instructional strategies on youths' attitude to voter education programme in Ondo city. The study adopted the pretest-posttest control group quasi- experimental design. The multi-stage sampling procedure was adopted. Two Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Ondo City were enumerated. The random sampling technique was used to select four community-based fora (2 per LGA). Fifty youths were purposively selected. Instruments used were Attitude to Voter Education Programme Questionnaire (AVEPQ r =0.74); Interest in Politics Questionnaire (IPQ r= 0.87); Instructional Guide on Youths Ambassadorial Learning Instruction (IGYALI); Instructional Guide on Social Media Learning Instruction (IGSMLI), Instructional Guide on Conventional Voter Education Strategy (IGCLMS) and Research Assistant Evaluation Sheet (RAES). The data collected were analyzed using Inferential Statistics Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). Estimated Marginal Means (EMM) aspect of ANCOVA was used to determine the magnitude of the mean scores of the different groups. Finally, the Bonferoni post-hoc analysis was used to determine the source of observed significant differences. The age of the respondents was within 30.80 ±2.40) years. The findings show among others that that there is a significant main effect of treatment (Treatment, Interest in Politics and Gender) on students' attitude to voter education programme; Interest in politics had effect on youths' attitude voter education programme; Gender had no effect on youths' attitude to voter education programme. INEC should continue the deployment of youths' ambassadorial strategy in conveying voter education messages. Social media influencers should also be enlisted to advocate positive messages of voter education across the length and breadth of the countr

    Experimental study of flow and heat transfer in rectangular ducts with ribbed surfaces

    The Pivotal focus on fluid and thermal equipment performance have remained to directly lower energy cost by utilizing varieties of surface structures including extended surfaces, treated surfaces, and rough surfaces. This has necessitated the resurgence of surfaces with dimples and protrusions for an enhanced system efficiency in electronic components, gas turbine blade cooling, vortex creation on air foil structures, combustion chambers, printed circuit boards, microfluidic passageways, and heat exchangers features. In this study, the performance characteristics, heat transfer enhancement (Nu/Nuo), friction factor ratio (f/fo), and overall thermal performance (OTP) of two test channels with distinct surface structures. The performance parameters were evaluated using experimental rigs, one with continuous spiral rib channel and the other one with discontinuous spiral rib channel. Thereafter, the results from both test channels were compared to a smooth surface channel. Comparing the performance characteristics, Nu/Nuo, f/fo, and OTP of the discontinuous spiral rib and continuous spiral rib were 31.5%, 91.3%, 4.4% and 81.9%, 113.6%, 38.4% higher than the smooth surface spiral rib channel. Finally, the study shows that the continuous spiral rib channel gave a lower pressure loss, and was established to possess higher heat transfer coefficient and overall thermal performance than the discontinuous spiral rib channel

    Institutional repository (IR) is an online locus deployed to manage intellectual outputs emanating from universities. Nigerian universities have witnessed an increase acceptance and subsequent contributions and use of the system. However, as the stem of the development keep increasing, there is a reported case of low awareness of the presence, types and usefulness of the systems particularly among the university studfents. The need to address this ugly development necessitated this study, a theoretical approach was employed and theories such as Actor Network Theory (ANT) as well as the Theory Constructivism were the theoretical frameworks were employed to underpin the study. The need to upscale effort at creating awareness on the type, purpose and potential benefits inherent in the IR was recommended as means of enhancing firm contribution and use of the system among the university community

    Numerical simulation of microchannel

    This study numerically investigates a double pipe heat exchanger with triangle and rectangle rib. The simulation is performed using ANSYS package, considering turbulent flow and k-e turbulence model. The working fluid is water in both tube and annulus and the flow arrangement is counter flow. The results show that, the heat transfer of triangle rib and rectangle rib are higher than that of normal DPHE and as the Reynolds number is increasing heat transfer, coefficient of heat transfers and Nusselt number are also increasing. Triangle rib has thermal performance factor of 0.9786 at Re of 40000 and rectangle rib has 1.0290 at Re of 30000. furthermore, total heat transfer of DPHE with triangle rib is 33% better than normal DPHE at Re of 40000 and that of rectangle rib is 45% better at Re of 4000
