In this paper, we consider the following wave equation: with space-time dependent potential, where the initial data have compact support. Under suitable assumptions on the nonlinear function f, the relaxation function g and the damping potential b, we obtain blow up results using the perturbed energy method

Artificial intelligence: the challenges posed to the law of contract in determining liabilities of parties

    Get PDF
Traditional methods of contracting involve, among others, using paper documents and oral communications. The extant laws appreciate these methods of contracting and make provisions for the validity, rights and liabilities of parties. Electronic transaction models make a detour from the established jurisprudence on contract provided by these extant laws and the court systems. With constant development of technology one-off legal response may sometimes not be enough to address new challenges posed. Artificial intelligence is one of the areas of development in technology that has affected the traditional legal provisions on contract. Machine intelligence has created some challenges in determining the liability of contracting parties, especially where the machine is acting on learned or extraneous data. It is observed that the existing international legal regime by the United Nations, which serves as the authority in resolving international legal matters, is not sufficient to address this problem. This article addresses the effect of artificial intelligence on contract in determining the liability of parties, and suggests a solution

Data on demographic characteristics, preoperative and postoperative intraocular pressure values, coexisting ocular pathology, type of strabismus, surgery performed, frequency and duration of postoperative topical steroid use and treatment received for elevated intraocular pressure were collected and descriptively summarised. Results: Thirty-six (39.1%) out of 92 patients who had squint surgery during the study period met study inclusion criteria. Mean age was 20.5 ± 13.6 years. All patients were administered Maxitrol® ointment postoperatively. Baseline, peak and net change in IOP were 12.9 ± 2.6 mmHg, 21.3 ± 6.8 mmHg and 8.39 ± 7.2 mmHg respectively. Thirty-one (86.1%) patients had elevation in IOP from baseline; 21 (67.7%) of these had significant IOP elevation. Topical steroid therapy was tailed off rapidly for all patients with significant IOP elevation. Twelve patients were commenced on topical IOP lowering medications, with normalization of intraocular pressure in majority of them by three months after surgery. Conclusion: Elevated intraocular pressure with the use of topical dexamethasone ointment after squint surgery was common in this study and majority of the patients had significant elevation in intraocular pressure. Colonisation of Africa by the European nations in the 19th century could be adjudged as a means of development in some facets of life, yet its resultant effects among others was cultural enslavement of the indigenes. Such negative effect was rebuffed by a few educated A fricans withnationalistic consciousness. In a similar vein, A frican Christians reacted against what can be termed religious colonisation orchestrated by European Missionaries who among other evils, ostracised African Christians from the mainline churches because of polygamy, condemned the institution of chieftaincy and grossly discriminated against the natives in the polity of the Church. The inhuman treatment of Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther and Rev James Johnson exemplified this anti-African attitude of the European Missionaries. Hence the emergence of Ethiopian Churches in Nigeriatowards the end of the 19th century and at the turn of the 20th century served as a religious expression of nationalism in Africa. There fore, this paper seeks to investigate the dynamism of religious expressions of nationalism in Nigeria as typified by The African Church and others with nationalistic tendencies with a view to determining how the claims of religious nationalists interfaced with Henry Venn's principles of evangelisation in Africa. Historical method was adopted for the collection of data
