    Potential Risks and Benefits Associated With the Genetic Modification of Crops for Improved Nutritional Content in South Africa

    Purpose: The aim of the study was to examine potential risks and benefits associated with the genetic modification of crops for improved nutritional content in South Africa Methodology: This study adopted a desk methodology. A desk study research design is commonly known as secondary data collection. This is basically collecting data from existing resources preferably because of its low cost advantage as compared to a field research. Our current study looked into already published studies and reports as the data was easily accessed through online journals and libraries. Findings: The study revealed that the genetic modification of crops addresses global challenges related to malnutrition, food insecurity, and public health. By enhancing the levels of essential nutrients such as iron, zinc, vitamin A, and folate in crops, genetically modified biofortified varieties have the potential to improve the nutritional status and well-being of populations, particularly in resource-constrained settings. Moreover, the adoption of GM biofortified crops has been shown to increase agricultural productivity, reduce production costs, and enhance economic returns for farmers, contributing to rural development and poverty alleviation. However, the potential risks associated with the genetic modification of crops cannot be overlooked. Concerns about food safety, environmental impact, and socio-economic equity necessitate careful consideration and proactive risk management strategies. Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: Risk Perception Theory & Social Construction of Technology may be used to anchor future studies on potential risks and benefits associated with the genetic modification of crops for improved nutritional content in South Africa. Engage stakeholders, including farmers, consumers, civil society organizations, and government agencies, in decision-making processes related to the development, regulation, and deployment of GM biofortified crops can foster transparency, trust, and inclusivity, leading to more socially acceptable and sustainable outcomes in practice.     Purpose: The aim of the study was to evaluate the role of augmented reality in improving remote technical support in Nigeria. Methodology: This study adopted a desk methodology. Findings:  The integration of Augmented Reality (AR) in remote technical support in Nigeria has significantly enhanced troubleshooting efficiency by allowing technicians to visualize issues in real-time, providing immediate and interactive guidance. This technology has improved customer satisfaction by reducing downtime and accelerating resolution processes, making support more accessible, especially in remote areas. Additionally, AR has contributed to cost reduction by minimizing the need for physical technician visits and extensive in-person training sessions. Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: Technology acceptance model (TAM), media richness theory (MRT) & cognitive load theory (CLT) may be used to anchor future studies on role of augmented reality in improving remote technical support in Nigeria. Implement AR solutions to provide remote technicians with detailed, real-time visual overlays that guide diagnostic and repair processes. Formulate policies that establish standards for AR technology in remote technical support. This includes guidelines for data security, privacy, and interoperability to ensure that AR solutions are safe, reliable, and can work seamlessly with other technologies

Findings: Transparency initiatives in Kenya have shown a positive impact on public trust in government. Efforts such as open access to government information, transparent budgeting processes, and public participation in decision-making have increased accountability and reduced corruption. These initiatives have led to greater citizen engagement and trust, as the public perceives the government to be more accountable and responsive to their needs. However, challenges remain in fully implementing these initiatives, and inconsistencies in transparency efforts can still undermine public trust. Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: Social exchange theory, institutional theory & information processing theory may be used to anchor future studies on the effect of transparency initiatives on public trust in government in Kenya. Continuously improve online transparency portals by enhancing user interfaces, ensuring data accuracy, and expanding the scope of information available. Develop sector-specific transparency policies tailored to the unique needs of different governmental sectors (e.g., healthcare, education). This approach ensures that transparency initiatives address sector-specific challenges and enhance sector-specific public trust.     An Evaluation of Stakeholder Involvement in the Development of Communication Plans Used in the Diffusion of Improved Maize Varieties among Farmers in the Semi-Arid Lower Eastern Kenya

    Purpose: While it is acknowledged that increased adoption of agricultural innovations is today hinged on increased and proper application of participatory communication approaches, the adoption of improved maize varieties in the semi-arid Lower Eastern Kenya has remained low at less than 30 percent despite the application of the approach. Proper application of the approach requires adequate involvement of stakeholders in communication activities that include the assessment of the communication needs and the formulation of the communication strategies at all stages of the development and diffusion of an innovation. The purpose of this study was therefore, to assess the level of stakeholder involvement in the development of communication plans used in the diffusion of improved maize varieties among farmers in the semi- arid region of Lower Eastern Kenya Methodology: Qualitative data was collected from farmers, agricultural scientists, agricultural extension officers and documents. It was analysed using a thematic analysis method in accordance with apriori themes and sub-themes developed by the researcher from the literature, principles of participatory communication approaches and the concerns of the research questions. Findings: The study revealed a critical gap in stakeholder involvement during the development of the communication plans which could hinder the formulation of an effective communication strategy. Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: In order to improve the adoption rates of improved maize varieties in the semi-arid Lower Eastern Kenya, stakeholders should adequately be involved in the development of communication plans to enable them to uncover their information deficits and identify their existing communication networks necessary for sustained adoption of the maize seeds. This involvement facilitates free and open dialogue which leads to conscientization in which individuals and communities develop a critical understanding of their social reality through reflection and action; ownership where participants accept the initiative and become active participants and; praxis (practice) in which the imitative is fully accepted and used.  &nbsp

    Purpose: The aim of the study was to analyze the role of cognitive behavioral therapy in treating depression among adults in South Korea. Methodology: This study adopted a desk methodology. A desk study research design is commonly known as secondary data collection. This is basically collecting data from existing resources preferably because of its low cost advantage as compared to a field research. Our current study looked into already published studies and reports as the data was easily accessed through online journals and libraries. Findings: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has proven to be an effective approach for treating depression among adults in South Korea, showing significant improvements in symptom reduction and mental well-being. It helps individuals identify and change negative thought patterns, enhancing emotional regulation and coping skills. Clinical findings reveal that CBT leads to substantial decreases in depressive symptoms compared to traditional care. Its structured and goal-oriented nature aligns well with South Korea’s emphasis on practical, evidence-based mental health interventions. Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: Cognitive theory of depression, behavioral activation theory & biopsychosocial model may be used to anchor future studies on the role of cognitive behavioral therapy in treating depression among adults in South Korea. Clinicians should continue to integrate CBT as a first-line treatment for depression, emphasizing its role in both reducing symptoms and improving long-term emotional resilience. Policymakers should consider expanding access to CBT, particularly in public health systems, due to its cost-effectiveness and proven success in treating depression

    Purpose: This article explored the impact of realism on American foreign policy during the Trump administration, striving to answer whether Trump adopted a realist stance or employed a unique blend of realism to enhance American interests on the global stage. Methodology: Centering on theoretical analysis and historical context, this study investigated the alignment of Trump\u27s controversial personality and his "America First" slogan with the quest for national interests and power dynamics. This paper spotlighted Trump\u27s unorthodox implementation of realism by exploring specific global issues, such as security strategies, trade policies, and diplomatic methods. Findings: This paper underscored Trump\u27s deviation from traditional realism and adopting an unconventional realist approach. Particular emphasis was placed on this approach\u27s implications for global power dynamics and the ethical dimensions of U.S. foreign policy. This study pinpointed noteworthy results from Trump\u27s unique fusion of realism, providing insights into its effects on international relations.     Cross-Border Conflicts and Social-Economic Development along the Kenya-Ethiopia Border: A Case of Northwestern Kenya

      Purpose: Kenya borders South Sudan, Ethiopia, and Uganda on the western side. The border is ladened with cross-border conflict involving the Turkana of Kenya, Dasanach and Nyangatom of Ethiopia, Toposa of South Sudan, and Karamoja of Uganda. The cross-border conflicts between Kenya and Ethiopia continue to ravage the social-economic development of cross-border communities on the border of Kenya. Thus, this study focused on managing the cross-border conflict and improving economic growth on the Kenyan northwestern border and Kenya-Ethiopia relations. Methodology: The study used an explanatory research design and multistage sampling. The study sampled the targeted population of 65,218 respondents of the Turkana North constituency. A descriptive analysis of 392 respondents was used in questionnaires, focus group discussions, and observation to collect quantitative and qualitative data. Findings: The findings indicate a high prevalence of cross-border conflicts, their considerable impacts on the social and economic development of the affected areas and communities, and varying levels of effectiveness of various interventions to resolve the issue. After examining the effect of cross-border conflicts on the social economic development of the Kenya-Ethiopia border, the findings showed that locals on the Kenyan side were victims of cross-border attacks from Merille of Ethiopia, as revealed by 76% of the respondents. The study acknowledged the presence of interventions for Managing cross-border Conflicts and Social Economic Development in Turkana County, Kenya-Ethiopia Border administrative mechanisms in managing cross-border conflicts and improving Kenya-Ethiopia relations. The study concluded that the effectiveness of these strategies would enhance the capacity of Kenya and Ethiopia to alleviate the social economic growth of the people and boost relations in the region. The study evaluated measures for enhancing the interventions for managing Cross-border Conflict and Social Economic Development in Turkana County, Kenya-Ethiopia Border. The study documented the state\u27s various actions to mitigate, reduce, or eradicate cross-border conflict in northwestern Kenya. These actions were meant to address cross-border conflict and improve the social economic development of the area. Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: Constructivist perspective to the cross-border conflict on Kenyan-Ethiopian conflict allows for a better understanding of how identity, norms, and perceptions contribute to the prevalence and persistence of the conflicts. Such perspectives provide a more nuanced approach to the issues that transcend the traditional economic and geopolitical factors to consider the cultural and social aspects of the cross-border conflict. The study concludes that the effective implementation of the disarmament mechanism on the border of Kenya and Ethiopia contributed to the cross-border conflict and enhanced the social-economic development of Turkana County, concluding that the mechanism for cross-border conflict is adequate. However, their implementation was weak due to lacking resources and goodwill. Therefore, the study recommended that Kenya and Ethiopia address the root causes of cross-border conflicts, triggers, and accelerators by promoting effective institutional policies and administrative frameworks for managing natural resources and setting up official access crossing points. Finally, Kenya and Ethiopia pool resources to boost the livelihoods of their border communities

Challenges include overcoming resistance to change, addressing power imbalances, sustaining engagement, and adapting to diverse learning styles and contexts. Successful training requires integrating theory with practical skills and ongoing support. Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: Social learning theory, cognitive dissonance theory & adult learning theory (andragogy) may be used to anchor future studies on best practices and challenges of conflict management education and training in Cameroon.
