    Muravidék létrehozása és társadalmi jellemzői

    No full text
After drawing the Trianon borders in 1920, a minor part of Hungarians became residents of the territory of present-day independent Slovenia. The number of their descendants is approxima-tely 6000, and they constitute one of the Hungarian diasporic communities in the Carpathian Basin. In order to rename this part annexed from historical Vas and Zala counties a new notion was created: the Mura Region. The starting point of this study is raising attention to the fact that authors dealing with this region do not identify the name Mura Region with an identical territorial unit. Our aim is to present and analyse them, meanwhile offering an option to solve the different interpretations of the Mura Region. Besides the geographic approach, our study also relies on sociological aspects, including interviewing the local population, and it carries out research into the causes of the different interpretations of the Mura Region. We analyse this issue by presenting the territorial, historical, political, economic and cultural features of the area.METSZETEKVol. 7 (2018) No. 2ISSN 2063-6415DOI10.18392/metsz/2018/2/3www. metszetek.unideb.hu28Kovács T., Stankovicsné Szendi A.: Muravidék létrehozása és társadalmi jellemzőiKÖZELKÉPMuravidék létrehozása és társadalmi jellemzőiKOVÁCS TERÉZ1 – STANKOVICSNÉ SZENDI ANNA2ABSZTRAKTAz 1920-as trianoni határmegvonással a magyarság egy kisebb része a ma már önálló Szlo-vénia területére került.

In our study, we present the situation of Hungarian minority households with children in Ukrai-nian villages based on the results of our qualitative and quantitative researches. In the explora-tory research, 23 interviews were made, and in the questionnaire, research data were obtained from a total of 139 households and 253 children. We present the poverty of households with children along the standard of living and the deprivation features of the households. The core of our analysis is the specific labor market situation, the earning opportunities, and forms of employment that provide for livelihoods for the households with children. Beside the backward-ness of the area studied in the research, the strategies and life situations that characterize the Transcarpathian Hungarians are also presented, which are beyond the known European forms of poverty.Tanulmányunkban az ukrajnai falvakban élő magyar kisebbségek gyermekes háztartásainak helyzetét mutatjuk be, az általunk készített kvalitatív és kvantitatív kutatások eredményei alap-ján. A feltáró kutatásban 23 interjú készült, a kérdőíves kutatás során pedig összesen 139 ház-tartásról és 253 gyermekről nyertünk adatokat. A háztartások életszínvonala és deprivációs jel-lemzői alapján mutatjuk be a gyermekes háztartások szegénységét. Elemzésünk központi elemei azok a sajátos munkaerőpiaci helyzetek, jövedelemszerzési lehetőségek, munkavégzési formák, melyek a gyermekes háztartások számára a megélhetést biztosítják.

YOUTH SPORT SPECIALIZATION AND PARENTAL INFLUENCE: A TWO-CITY SURVEY FROM HUNGARY

    No full text
This study explores the role of parental influence in youth sport selection, motivation, and specialization. Parents of young athletes from two Hungarian county seats were surveyed to identify regional differences. Results indicate that parental influence is generally moderate or low but stronger in families with higher financial investment. Specialization increases in adolescence, while younger participants are more likely to try multiple sports. There is a discrepancy between participants and their parents’ competitive aspirations: participants more often aim for the professional level than parents expect. The findings contribute to developing youth sports talent management and parental education in Hungary

    Hermes/Mercury Depictions on Anatolian Glyptics

    No full text
The study conducts an iconographic analysis of Hermes/Mercury representations on gems discovered in Anatolia and preserved in the local museums of modern Turkey. The aim is to compile an iconographic corpus primarily of “Fundgemmen” on which Hermes is the main or only figure. Most of the gems presented here date from the second and third centuries AD. The research examines a total of 31 gems, which the authors classify into seven distinct types. Their final conclusion indicates that while certain types exhibit specific characteristics, no distinctly Anatolian representation type can be established. So interesting working on a type that iconographically is so similar over the Empire though doubtless had many local characteristics and names

Participation in Shadow Education in Church- and State-Maintained Schools: The Role of Cultural and Social Capital

    Get PDF
Research on shadow education is often justified based on Bourdieu’s theory of capital as it is assumed to contribute to social inequalities. This paper focuses on the role of cultural and social capital and on the differences between state- and church-maintained schools in the North-Eastern parts of Hungary. Using a convenience sample and our own constructed measurement tool, a quantitative survey of secondary school language learners (N=711) was conducted to explore the relationship between the effectiveness of supplementary private language tutoring as well as the cultural and social capital of language learners in cross-sectoral comparisons. Our results highlight the positive correlation between the highest educational attainment of the mother, the participation rate in shadow education and language learners’ achievement.  In our study, language learners whose mothers had a higher education level demonstrated greater efficiency, in terms of academic achievements. Despite being less successful in passing language examinations as a result of a lower social composition in denominational grammar schools, language learners could count on a higher level of support both from their language teachers - who were better able to support their students to progress at their own pace - and from their classmates and families, demonstrating that social capital had a compensating effect on their learning trajectories
