Get PDFA set of eight expressionist stained glass windows in the church of St. Mary Magdalene in Dobrodzień, originating from 1934-1935, is finalised by the window Students on the road to Emmaus. The aim of this stained glass window, in the view of Rev. Jan Gładysz (1881-1967), the parish priest at the time, was to encourage reflection on the subject of “Man’s journey with God”. The article is an attempt of conducting thorough interpretation of the individual elements of the composition of the work, which allow for a deeper penetration into the content of the reflection proposed by the parish priest of Dobrodzień.Zespół ośmiu ekspresjonistycznych witraży w kościele pw. św. Get PDFThe publication of the papal response to the dubia in October 2023 prompted a number of comments among Catholic publicists in the United States. The author\u27s choice of U.S. media as an object of study was dictated by the fact that they are a source of knowledge about the actions of the Catholic Church, often quoted in the Polish news space. The text by Pope Francis in question served to clarify doubts arising in the minds of those with conservative views, expressed in five questions drafted by two cardinals, supported by three more, regarding the compatibility of the Holy See\u27s new pastoral arrangements with Catholic doctrine. The publication of Responsum ad dubia was meeting with both: harsh criticism from opponents of changes to the current way of carrying out the Church\u27s mission, as well as approval from progressive-minded Catholics, who saw in the papal moves an example of the Church\u27s pastoral opening to the previously marginalized persons. Undertaking an analysis by the author of the article of the comments appearing in American journalism, revealed the existence of a phenomenon of strong polarization of views of Catholics in the US on the papal actions. Characterization of the arguments undertaken by worldview-distant circles of believers made it possible to show the theological differences in the understanding of the mission and nature of the Church, present in the thinking of their representatives. The progressive differentiation on such an important issue raises the question of the unity of the Catholic community. The example of the division present in the Church in the United States remains an illustration of similar processes taking place in other countries, including Poland.Opublikowanie papieskiej odpowiedzi na dubia w październiku 2023 roku wywołało szereg komentarzy wśród publicystów katolickich w Stanach Zjednoczonych. Wybór przez autora mediów amerykańskich jako przedmiotu badań podyktowany był faktem, iż stanowią one źródło wiedzy o działaniach Kościoła katolickiego, cytowane często w polskiej przestrzeni informacyjnej. Przywołany tekst papieża Franciszka służył wyjaśnieniu wątpliwości rodzących się w umysłach osób o poglądach konserwatywnych, wyrażonych w pięciu pytaniach zredagowanych przez dwóch kardynałów, wspieranych przez trzech kolejnych, co do zgodności nowych rozwiązań pastoralnych Stolicy Apostolskiej z doktryną katolicką. Publikacja Responsa ad dubia spotkała się zarówno z ostrą krytyką przeciwników zmian dotychczasowego sposobu realizowania kościelnej misji, jak i z aprobatą progresywnie myślących katolików, widzących w papieskich posunięciach przykład duszpasterskiego otwarcia Kościoła na osoby dotąd marginalizowane. Podjęcie przez autora artykułu analizy nad pojawiającymi się w amerykańskiej publicystyce komentarzami, ujawniło istnienie zjawiska silnej polaryzacji poglądów katolików w USA na działania papieskie. Scharakteryzowanie argumentacji podejmowanej przez odległe od siebie światopoglądowo środowiska wierzących pozwoliło na ukazanie teologicznych różnic w rozumieniu misji i natury Kościoła, obecnych w myśleniu ich przedstawicieli. Postępujące zróżnicowanie w tak istotnej kwestii rodzi pytanie o jedność katolickiej wspólnoty, a przykład podziału obecnego w Kościele w Stanach Zjednoczonych pozostaje ilustracją podobnych procesów zachodzących w innych krajach, w tym w Polsce

Get PDFAs AI technology becomes more available and accessible to students, there has been a surge of research investigating its impact on how students learn a target language. However, a comprehensive understanding of how these technologies influence the motivational aspects of language learning remains limited. Addressing this gap, this study explores the broader relationship between individual engagement with various AI-based tools and their motivational impact on English learning, moving beyond the focus on specific AI tools. To achieve the research objectives, engagement with AI-based programs was examined in relation to awareness, experience, and interest in the future use of AI-based programs. Then, the relationships between these AI-related elements and motivational variables (such as self-efficacy and ideal L2 self) in language learning were investigated. Finally, the influence of adaptability was explored in these specific relationships. For this study, convenience sampling was employed to collect data from 180 Korean students who were enrolled in an English course at a university in South Korea. Hierarchical regression and mediation analyses revealed that students’ awareness and experience significantly influenced their interest in the future use of AI-based applications. Among the three AI-related elements, awareness and interest in future use were related to language learning motivation, specifically, self-efficacy and ideal L2 self. Notably, adaptability was identified as a mediating factor in the relationship between awareness of AI and the motivational variables. These findings contribute to our understanding of effective language learning in conjunction with AI-based tools

Get PDFThe article analyzes the creation of alternative histories using the examples of Xavras Wyżryn [Xavras Wyżryn] and Lód [Ice]. The focus of the interpretations will be on the question of why this particular period was subjected to counterfactual processes. In Xavras, the first half of the twentieth century is presented as a sequence of events resulting from the still ongoing war of 1920, that is, as an effect of human actions; in Ice, on the other hand, the events are caused by a meteorite impact, that is, they result from natural factors. In both works, 1918–1939 is not a period marked by war and is not decisive for the development of the Polish state. In this article, I will discuss the methods of constructing fictional worlds and answer the fundamental questions about the relationship between chance and the supreme law built into history, especially the juxtaposition of ideas of modernity and the growing totalitarianism. First, however, I will focus on the new ways of interpreting culturally mythologized spaces, logical and philosophical theories, and interpersonal relations through fictional alternative worlds.W artykule postawiono pytanie, dlaczego Jacek Dukaj w fantastyce literackiej poddał zabiegom kontrfaktycznym okres dwudziestolecia międzywojennego. W powieści Xavras Wyżryn Dukaj przedstawia pierwszą połowę XX wieku jako ciąg wydarzeń wynikający z toczącej się wciąż wojny 1920 roku, a więc jako efekt działań człowieka, z kolei w po[1]wieści Lód – świata po katastrofie tunguskiej, czyli zderzeniu meteorytu z Ziemią, a zatem jako efekt działań natury. W żadnym z utworów dwudziestolecie nie istnieje jako osobna epoka. W artykule szczególną uwagę poświęcono nowym możliwościom interpretacji kulturowo zmitologizowanych dziejów i przemian nowoczesności, możliwościom uzyskanym m.in. dzięki konwergencji historii, która w powieści niezaistniała (wydarzeń takich jak rewolucja październikowa, dwie wojny światowe) i wersji wydarzeń historycznych ukazanej w ramach świata fikcji. Skoncentrowano się na istotnych dla Dukaja pytaniach o relację między przypadkowością a nadrzędnymi prawami historii, w pierwszym rzędzie na – uzyskanych dzięki opisaniu fikcyjnych, alternatywnych światów – nowych możliwościach interpretacji teorii filozoficznych, a także relacji międzyludzkich. W rozważaniach istotny okazał się konflikt między ideami nowoczesności a przybierającym na sile totalitaryzmem. Podjęto też próbę odpowiedzi na pytanie, dlaczego pierwsza połowa XX wieku, a zwłaszcza dwudziestolecie międzywojenne, pozostaje w centrum zainteresowania zarówno literatury i sztuki, jak i refleksji humanistycznej

Get PDFRelacyja o boskiej prowidencyjej nad P. Jonasz Szlichtingiem młodym AoD. 1665 14 Sept. contained in Andrzej Lubieniecki Jr’s silva rerum was published and fact-checked by Janusz Tazbir. However, this text, which is important for the history of the Polish Brethren, needs to be read from a philological point of view, using the rhetorical tools appropriate to it. The account takes the form of a letter from Paweł Szlichtyng to Jan Trembecki and is thus an example of the typical 17th-century use of private correspondence in the circulation of information. At the same time, it is a text deliberately and functionally crafted by the author. While declaring multiple allegiances to the truth of events, Paweł Szlichtyng made use of various tools for shaping the story in order to increase its persuasiveness and engage the audience Rhetorical analysis demonstrated the use of hagiographic conventions when describing the protagonists of events and the use of the argumentative power of testimony. The logic of the development of the true story, based on the authority of the truth conveyed by the participants in the events, and its transformation into a rhetorical argument in the form of an example, was subjected to observation. Attention was given to the use of narrative shaping techniques (patterns and the role of commentary), especially amplification procedures. Reading the account as a text influenced by literary conventions has made it possible to define more fully the role assigned to it by its author in reinforcing the message of faith addressed to the circle of Polish Arians.Znajdująca się w sylwie Andrzeja Lubienieckiego młodszego Relacyja o boskiej prowidencyjej nad P. Jonaszem Szlichtingiem młodym AoD. 1665 14 Sept. została opublikowana i scharakteryzowana pod względem faktograficznym przez Janusza Tazbira. Jednak ten ważny dla dziejów braci polskich tekst wymaga podjęcia odczytania w perspektywie filologicznej, z wykorzystaniem właściwych dla niego narzędzi retorycznych. Relacja ma formę listu Pawła Szlichtynga do Jana Trembeckiego, jest więc przykładem typowego dla XVII wieku wykorzystania prywatnej korespondencji w obiegu informacji. Jednocześnie jest to tekst celowo i funkcjonalnie opracowany przez autora. Paweł Szlichtyng, deklarując wielorako wierność prawdzie zdarzeń, skorzystał z różnych narzędzi kształtowania opowieści w celu podniesienia jej perswazyjności i zaangażowania odbiorcy. Analiza retoryczna pokazała użycie konwencji hagiograficznej w kreowaniu bohaterów zdarzeń i wykorzystanie siły argumentacyjnej świadectwa. Poddano obserwacji logikę rozwoju opowieści prawdziwej, opartej na autorytecie prawdy przekazywanej przez uczestników zdarzeń, oraz jej przemianę w retoryczny argument w formie przykładu. Zwrócono uwagę na wykorzystanie technik kształtowania narracji (schematy i rola komentarzy), szczególnie zabiegi amplifikacyjne. Die Rezension skizziert die wichtigsten Themen und Motive des Romans und ordnet ihn in einen breiteren Kontext ähnlicher literarischer Werke der sog. dritten Post-Shoah-Generation ein. In dem Beitrag wird der Verbindung der feministischen Perspektive mit der postmigrantischen in Juli, August, September sowie der vertieften Reflexion über die Position der kommenden, vierten Generation nachgegangen. Insgesamt charakterisiert die Rezension Grjasnowas Roman als eine gelungene Fortsetzung und Weiterentwicklung der 3G-Prosa, die mehrere Diskussionsfelder der zeitgenössischen Literaturwissenschaft eröffnet.The article presents a review of Olga Grjasnowa’s novel Juli, August, September, published in 2024. The review outlines the key themes and motifs of the novel and places it within a broader context of similar literary works by the so-called third post-Shoah generation. In particular, the connection between feminist and post-migrant perspectives in Juli, August, September is acknowledged, as well as the deeper reflection on the position of the upcoming fourth generation. Overall, the review characterizes Grjasnowa’s novel as a successful continuation and development of 3G prose, opening up several discussion areas in contemporary literary studies.Artykuł stanowi recenzję powieści Olgi Grjasnowej Juli, August, September wydanej w 2024 roku. Recenzja nakreśla główne tematy i motywy powieści, umieszczając ją w szerszym kontekście podobnych dzieł literackich tzw. trzeciego pokolenia post-Szoa. This study consists of two main parts. The first one introduces us to various ways of presenting the Bible in films, including non-Biblical ones. The second one presents, on the example of selected films, ways of manipulating the Bible.Biblia obecna jest w filmie niemal od początku jego istnienia. Szybko też zaczęto wykorzystywać ją w tym medium w sposób niewłaściwy, uciekając się nawet do manipulacji. Niniejsze opracowanie składa się z dwóch zasadniczych części. Pierwsza z nich wprowadza nas w różne sposoby prezentowania Biblii w filmie, także niebiblijnym. Druga natomiast prezentuje na przykładzie wybranych filmów sposoby manipulacji Biblią
