A novel approach integrating IF-AHP, IF-DEMATEL and CoCoSo methods for sustainability management in food digital manufacturing supply chain systems

    No full text
Purpose: Food manufacturing supply chain systems are the most relevant wheels of the world economy since they provide essential products supporting daily life. Nevertheless, various supply inefficiencies have been reported to compromise food safety in different regions. Sustainable supplier management and digitalization practices have become cornerstone activities in addressing these shortcomings. Therefore, this paper proposes an integrated method for sustainability management in digital manufacturing supply chain systems (DMSCS) from the food industry. Design/methodology/approach: The Intuitionistic Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (IF-AHP) was used to weigh the criteria and subcriteria under uncertainty. Second, the Intuitionistic Fuzzy Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (IF-DEMATEL) was applied to determine the main DMSCS sustainability drivers whilst incorporating the expert's hesitancy. Finally, the Combined Compromise Solution (CoCoSo) was implemented to pinpoint the weaknesses hindering DMSCS sustainability. A case study from the pork supply chain was presented to validate this method. Findings: The most important criterion for DMSCS sustainability management is “location” while “manufacturing capacity” is the most significant dispatcher. Originality/value: This paper presents a novel approach integrating IF-AHP, IF-DEMATEL, and CoCoSo methods for sustainability management of DMSCS pillaring the food industry

A hybrid fuzzy MCDM approach to identify the intervention priority level of Covid-19 patients in the emergency department: A Case Study

    No full text
Several efforts have been made by hospital administrators to provide high-quality care for Covid-19-infected patients admitted to the Emergency Department (ED). Estimating the intervention priority level of Covid-19 patients is pivotal to underpin this process. However, diagnoses vary from one doctor to another considering various factors including experience, intuition, and education level. This problem is even more sharpened especially in absence of patient background and medical records. In addition, there is a large volume of infected persons requiring emergency care and a wide range of health and socio-personal particularities that need to be considered when deciding if these patients will be only treated at the ED, hospitalized, or returned home. Therefore, this study proposes a new integrated Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) approach to identify the intervention priority level of Covid-19 infected patients. First, the Trapezoidal Neutrosophic Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (TNF-AHP) method was implemented to calculate the criteria and sub-criteria weights considering uncertainty and knowledge level. Second, the Intuitionistic Fuzzy Compromise Combined Solution (IF-CoCoSo) was applied to estimate the intervention priority level of Covid-19 patients and define actions to improve their health condition. The proposed approach was validated in a Mexican public hospital. As a result, an MCDM model comprising 5 criteria and 27 sub-criteria was designed to support this decision. Specifically, "Socio-personal characteristics" (overall weight = 0.195), "Hypogeusia" (overall weight = 0.0812), and "Chronic lung disease" (overall weight = 0.089) were found to be the most important decision elements in defining the intervention priority level of Covid-19 patients

Function algebras on the n -dimensional quantum complex space

    No full text
This paper introduces a (universal) C*-algebra of continuous functions vanishing at infinity on the -dimensional quantum complex space. To this end, the well-behaved Hilbert space representations of the defining relations are classified. Then these representations are realized by multiplication operators on an 2-space. The C*-algebra of continuous functions vanishing at infinity is defined by considering an *-algebra such that its classical counterpart separates the points of the -dimensional complex space and by taking the operator norm closure of a universal representation of this algebra

A review on Pb-bearing nanoparticles, particulate matter and colloids released from mining and smelting activities

Lead (Pb) is one of the most paradoxical elements, both having diverse practical uses, as well as being extremely toxic to humans, and especially to children. The use of Pb records a steady growth with annual production currently exceeding 10 million metric tons. In spite of the environmental awareness of modern society, humans are still exposed to Pb through its emission by smelting and mining activities, and also by Pb-bearing mine wastes and soils. Here, we review the chemical and mineralogical forms of Pb generated from smelting and mining processes and subsequently altered in tailings, slag piles, and soils. In smelter plumes, Pb is emitted to the atmosphere either in the form of smaller nano-size particulate matter (PM) often associated with S, or larger micrometer Pb-bearing PM matter accompanied by oxide-silicate matrices. Pb-bearing phases in mine tailings and impacted soils depict a greater mineralogical and chemical complexity than those emitted from smelters and the larger particle size of this PM also leads to a lower Pb bioavailability. High resolution observations in aquatic system, soils and rock coatings impacted by smelting and mining activities show the presence of Pb-bearing phosphates, sulfides, sulfates, carbonates, and oxide nanoparticles. Larger micrometer size particles of Pb-bearing minerals form often through the aggregation of Pb-bearing nanoparticles, a process commonly referred to as crystallization through particle attachment. Mobilization of Pb within soil columns is strongly affected by the transport of colloids, especially those composed of organic matter and Fe-hydroxides because Pb is taken up efficiently by these two soil components. The extraordinary variability and complexities of all of these processes suggest that future reduction of Pb contamination in the environment and its impact on human health mainly depends on eliminating or greatly reducing Pb-release from smelting operations and tailings impoundments.Schindler, MichaelSantosh, MDotto, GuilhermeSilva O, Luis FHochella Jr, Michael

    Get PDF
At present times, COVID-19 has become a global illness and infected people has increased exponentially and it is difficult to control due to the non-availability of large quantity of testing kits. Artificial intelligence (AI) techniques including machine learning (ML), deep learning (DL), and computer vision (CV) approaches find useful for the recognition, analysis, and prediction of COVID-19. Several ML and DL techniques are trained to resolve the supervised learning issue. At the same time, the potential measure of the unsupervised learning technique is quite high. Therefore, unsupervised learning techniques can be designed in the existing DL models for proficient COVID-19 prediction. In this view, this paper introduces a novel unsupervised DL based variational autoencoder (UDL-VAE) model for COVID-19 detection and classification. The UDL-VAE model involved adaptive Wiener filtering (AWF) based preprocessing technique to enhance the image quality. Besides, Inception v4 with Adagrad technique is employed as a feature extractor and unsupervised VAE model is applied for the classification process. In order to verify the superior diagnostic performance of the UDL-VAE model, a set of experimentation was carried out to highlight the effective outcome of the UDL-VAE model. The obtained experimental values showcased the effectual results of the UDL-VAE model with the higher accuracy of 0.987 and 0.992 on the binary and multiple classes respectively.Mansour, Romany F.Escorcia-Gutierrez, Jose-will be generated-orcid-0000-0003-0518-3187-600Gamarra, Margarita-will be generated-orcid-0000-0003-1834-2984-600Gupta, DeepakCastillo, Oscarkumar, sachin-will be generated-orcid-0000-0002-1136-8009-60

Induction motors with copper rotor: a new opportunity for increasing motor efficiency

    No full text
The copper rotor induction motor (CURIM) was recently introduced because it has lower rotor fusion losses than the aluminum rotor (ALRIM). Furthermore, with CURIM, it is easier to reach IE4 and IE5 efficiency levels. The CURIM is advantageous for compact motors, escalators, and electric vehicle applications. However, CURIMs present slip, power factor, temperature increase, and torque decrease problems that must be analyzed. This study compared the economic feasibility of using CURIM with ALRIM by applying discount techniques. A case study was carried out in a sugar company with a cyclical operation, where 5.5 kW motors will be installed in the intermediate conductors of the mill's feeders. The facility works three shifts between 3 and 6 months. The cost increase (CI) of CURIM over ALRIM was between 1.1 and 1.5 times. With 3,600 h/year and 4,000 h/year of operation, the CI greater than 10%, it was found that the payback is more than four years, and the net present value (NPV) grows linearly
