Evaluate Workforce Perspective in Industrialised Building System
The workforce is essential in the construction sector for the Industrialised Building System (IBS). Previous researchers often obtain data and opinions from the perspective of construction professionals and often neglect the labour workforce opinion. The research is to study the perspective of IBS by evaluating workforce performances factors to improve IBS performance amongst the workforces. The data collection amounts 60 targeted respondents. This study found a strong correlation between motivation, education, and workforce skill level, affecting productivity in implementing IBS. Eventually, the resolution proposes an improvement of the workforce's monetary incentive and academic level
Human Behaviours on Domestic Waste Recycling Practice among Urban Households
The propagation of household recycling is undeniable and thorough. Recycling behaviour among households in urban areas and Malaysia has, however, received less attention. Therefore, the purpose of this preliminary study is to outline the influence that household behaviour is motivated through waste recycling. The survey carried out in six (6) suburbs of Shah Alam using a convenient sampling method to perform a site inventory and questionnaire survey. The findings are affected by the influences of recycling and individual activities representing their contribution to recycling domestic waste
The Quality of Overall Planning and its Influence on Overcrowding in Malaysian Preschools
Overcrowding in Malaysian preschools is concerning and can be attributed to inadequate building size and poor planning. Sufficient space for learning activities is crucial for children's development. This study examines and proposes recommendations to improve the overall planning of 26 public Ministry of Education (MOE) preschools in Klang Valley. The Children’s Physical Environment Rating Scale was used to assess planning aspects including building size, indoor activity spaces, classroom enrolment, and modules. Most assessed MOE preschools lacked space and the average quality of overall planning was rated Fair. Recommendations are hoped to promote better planning for public preschools in Malaysia
The Conservation of Old Johar Market Building
The conservation efforts for heritage architecture are currently trending. This paper aims to uncover the conservation of traditional markets after experiencing a fire in the Johar market, Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia. After the market was renovated, it turned out that it had not included all traders in it. Using the historical method, there is revealing that the number of traders exceeds the room's capacity. Theory discusses about the conservation approach and applied adaptive reuse theory found that the initial plan, is possible to return its function as a market by adjusting the number of traders' capacity. The advantages of traders are recommended to occupy the old square area as open spaces to be attractive for heritage tourism
Negeri Sembilan Malay House Thermal Performance Evaluation towards Sustainable Practice
Traditional Malay House has practices climatic design strategies and getting extinct due to urban development. Consequently, generated urban heat island, causing increased energy consumption for cooling purposes. Therefore, a modern house has an inefficient passive thermal design. Aim: To assess the thermal performance of Negeri Sembilan traditional Malay house towards sustainable practice in the tropical environment. Findings: house openings allow cross-ventilation, less strategic house orientation towards the environmental condition and roofing materials contributes discomfort indoor environment, reaching 35ºC during peak hour. This research focuses on improving construction technology for modern architecture to provide a functional indoor environment in a tropical climate
Modified Open-Plan Preschool Spaces and their Influence on Childrens Cognitive Development
Modified open-planning to define activity spaces is vital in preschool design. Childrens cognitive development is reflected in cognitive school readiness (SR). This study investigates the correlation between modified open-plan spaces and cognitive SR in Malaysian preschools. A prospective cohort study involving 378 children at 18 MOE preschools was conducted. Among all preschool physical design aspects (size, image, scale, circulation, facilities, indoor environment quality, safety, home bases, activity areas, and play yards), the quality of modified open-plan preschool spaces showed the strongest correlation with children cognitive SR (Pearson r=0.658, p=0.000). Findings are hoped to promote better planning in preschool designs
Application of Pathway Network Design as Natural Surveillance in Malaysian Public Green Roof
High engagement of crowd in public realm creates a natural surveillance strategy. The selection of types of green roof pathway network design influences the rate of public engagement that helps in assuring public safety while enjoying the green roof facility. The application of Space Syntax as a research methodology helps determine the pathway design layout with the highest traffic concentration. Comparison between a similar number of nodes and axial lines revealed that an axial line with more intersecting points offers more opportunities for better public engagement, shown by higher traffic concentration in tandem with natural surveillance strategy on green roofs
Evaluating Malaysian Landscape Architecture Project Issues Controllability Level
The study's purpose is to assess project issues' controllability and indicate the necessity for a management system in Malaysian landscape architecture projects. A semi-structured interview with twenty-four Klang Valley landscape architects was utilised to collect data. The acquired material was analysed using content and thematic analysis. The study discovered that project issues could be managed if anticipated and addressed in advance. Despite this, inaction on common issues continues to affect project outcomes negatively. The study recommends developing a procedure for forecasting, evaluating, and treating future concerns
