    Kajian ini meneroka bagaimana generasi muda menerima kehadiran trend fesyen semasa yang sederhana dan moden. Trend fesyen semasa ini dapat dilihat sebagai satu perubahan kitaran fesyen. Trend ini juga dapat dedifinisikan sebagai fesyen yang kita lihat mengenai gaya pakaian apa yang akan berlaku kemudian. Terkait kepada generasi Y, jiwa golongan ini yang muda membawa kepada keinginan yang tinggi untuk mereka memakai pakaian fesyen yang pelik dan suka mencuba perkara yang baru. Didorong pula dengan zaman di mana mereka ini lahir yang sudah wujudnya kemudahan capaian “tech-savvy”, yang semuanya hanya di hujung jari mereka. Fesyen sederhana dan moden tidak semestinya terikat hanya pakaian atau baju semata-mata. Menjelaskan kepada konsep itu, ia boleh dikaitkan atau digabungkan dengan aksesori jenama antarabangsa. Oleh itu, generai muda sekarang terutamanya generasi Y lebih suka dan tertarik untuk membeli-belah item fesyen, malah suka mengikuti perkembangan trend. Metodologi kajian yang diaplikasikan di dalam penyelidikan ini adalah menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif. Pendekatan ini menggunakan satu proses pengumpulan data iaitu soal selidik secara tertutup yang diagihkan kepada para responden. Analisis kajian memberikan kebolehterimaan pengguna genarai muda (generasi Y) terhadap fesyen pakaian sederhana dan moden. Diharapkan dengan adanya kajian ini, ia sedikit sebanyak dapat dijadikan sebagai rujukan terhadap penerimaan trend fesyen semasa dalam kalangan generasi muda di Malaysia buat penyelidikan generasi yang akan datang

    Preparation and characterization of Acacia Senegal hydrogel electrolyte in zinc-air battery

    In this work, Acacia senegal (AS) as hydrogel electrolyte for zinc-air battery application were studied. Issues regarding synthetic polymer used for hydrogel electrolyte may cause toxicity, harmful substance, leakage and are non-biodegradable. AS is a natural polymer that are non-toxic, low cost and has potential as electrolyte to apply in battery applications. AS hydrogel was first prepared by dissolved AS powder with distilled water and heated at 70 – 80 °C to form hydrogel. Optimum composition of AS hydrogel was observed with 1:1 and dissolved with different KOH concentration to form AS hydrogel electrolyte. The ionic conductivity, viscosity, structural and open circuit potential characterization were studied to evaluate the properties of AS. For FTIR analysis, abundance of hydroxyl ions presence as charge carriers contributed to the conductivity and open circuit potential analysis. 6 M KOH was recorded as the best composition and exhibited excellent electrochemical properties to be applied in zinc-air battery

    A study of active components in aloe vera barbadensis extract using soxhlet extraction method

    Aloe Vera is the oldest medicinal plant ever known and used in cosmetics from centuries worldwide. The active components extracted from Aloe Vera Barbadensis is useful to solve the skin problems and replace the insecure chemical ingredients that used in cosmetic application. The objectives of this study are (1) to extract the active components from Aloe Vera plant using soxhlet extraction method; (2) to investigate the presence of active components from different part of Aloe Vera extract by using different type of solvents and; (3) to determine the concentration of phenolic and flavonoid contents in Aloe Vera extracts. The Aloe Vera gel and root samples were extracted by using soxhlet extraction method with different type of solvents. The presence of active components of the extracts were analysed by using FTIR. The Aloe Vera extracts were used to test for the presence of carbohydrate, steroid, anthraquinone and tannin components. The total phenolic and flavonoid contents were determined by using UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The total phenolic content of the extracts were determined by using Folin-Ciocalteu reagent and gallic acid as standard. The total flavonoid contents were determined by using aluminium chloride colorimetric method and used quercetin as standard. Most of the Aloe Vera extracts shown the presence of steroids and tannins components. The number of absorption peak that observed in ethanolic extracts are more than in methanolic and aqueous extracts. The highest total phenolic and flavonoid contents were found in aloe vera root ethanolic extracts as compared with other solvent extracts with the value of 0.5502 mg/mL and 0.3685 mg/mL respectively. The Aloe Vera root extracts show the higher concentration of phenolic and flavonoid content which may possess a higher antioxidant activity as compared with Aloe Vera gel extracts. Therefore, it could exploit to a new field of research in cosmetic application in the future

    Extraction of gallic acid from Chromolaena sp. using ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE)

    Chromolaena sp. is believed to have phytochemical components namely alkaloids, flavonoids, flavone, essential oils, phenolics, saponins, tannins and terpenoids. In this study, ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) procedure was performed to extract the gallic acid extraction from the Chromolaena sp. UAE is known to be an environmentally green extraction method. The experiment was carried out with two different parameters which are sonication time and duty cycle. Phytochemical screening, High performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) was employed to determine the optimum condition for the extraction method. Phytochemical screening result showed the presence of phenolic compound when the dark-green colour of solution was observed. The optimum extraction conditions were as follows: sonication time of 80 minutes with yield of 3.0060 mg/mL and duty cycle of 10% with yield of 3.7641 mg/mL. The FT-IR result shows that presence of O-H and alkene group in the extraction sample. From the result, it can be concluded that UAE is an effective method to extract gallic acid from Chromolaena sp.     Disaster Resilience Education (DRE) towards flood disaster on secondary school at Tanah Merah, Kelantan

    Flooding has become a common occurrence as it occurs periodically in Malaysia. This annual occurrence of floods has given big impacts on live being including humans. Due to this negative impact of flood, we need to take an alternative way to reduce this disaster and pay serious attention for this issue. This study will focused on flood disaster management and the linkage in between school communities. Three schools involved in this study which are vulnerable to flood disaster in Tanah Merah, Kelantan. The objectives of this study is to identify programme of Disaster Resilience Education (DRE), to identify level of knowledge on awareness towards DRE and to investigate the factor on awareness towards DRE. Method used by this research study is by survey using questionnaire where it contains five section which include demographic, preparation, mitigation, recovery and response towards flood disaster. Then, the results were analysed by using descriptive analysis and inferential analysis which is, independent sample t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) is used. For this findings, lack of programme towards DRE among school communities and lower knowledge on awareness towards DRE were determined. Lastly, gender, type of respondents, race and type of school were contribute to the factor that effect awareness towards DRE. From this, respondent's knowledge and awareness towards DRE and the factors affecting the awareness programs towards DRE were determined

    Willingness To Pay (WTP) of household to solid waste management services in Jeli, Kelantan

    Solid waste management is a critical issue in developing country such as Malaysia where the growth of human population, increasing urbanization and rising standards of living due to technological innovations have contributed to an increase in the both quantity and variety of solid wastes. The increasing financial challenges for waste management have prompted researchers to pay close attention to the demand side of the problem. This study is undertaken in order to explore the practices and services in Jeli household, to investigate the perception of the respondents on solid waste management (SWM) and to determine the willingness to pay (WTP) on SWM among the respondents in Jeli, Kelantan by using Dichotomous Choice Contingent Valuation Method. A questionnaire was designed to draw a sample of 123 respondents for the study. The results from data analysis showed that the perception of the household on their practices and services provided is good. In addition, more than half of the respondent were willing to pay more to have an improvement in solid waste management services. Hence, the estimated mean household willingness to pay for solid waste management system in Jeli is about RM12.05/6 month per household. There are several suggestions being selected. Logistic regression model was used in this paper to obtain the association between the socio-demographic of the household with the WTP. The findings of logit study is that educational level, type of houses, occupation and household income are significantly influential in determining the households' willingness to pay for better solid waste management in Jeli

    Preparation of Cellulose Triacetate (CTA) — Aliquat 336 Electrospun Fibers for removal of methyl orange from aqueous solution

    Textile wastewater is classified as the most polluting sector compared to all other industrial sectors due to the discharge of dye pollutants. Dye-containing effluents from this industry can affect environmental health as well as human health. Today, there have been many studies conducted about removal of heavy metals from aqueous solution using electrospun fibers. However, the study and research about electrospun fibers on dye removal is scarcely reported. This research aimed to investigate the removal efficiency of methyl orange from aqueous solution using electrospun fibers made from cellulose triacetate (CTA) as the base polymer and Aliquat 336 as an extractant. A solvent of dichloromethane (DCM) and methanol (MeOH) with a ratio of 8:2 was used to dissolve the extractant and base polymer followed by electrospinning process for the preparation of electrospun fibers. Parameters such as different Aliquat 336 concentration (5, 10, 15, 35 and 40 w.t%), pH of methyl orange (2, 4, 6, 7 and 10) and methyl orange initial concentration (10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 ppm) that affect extraction efficiency were also studied to determine the best parameters for optimum extraction condition to happen. Based on the results, the removal efficiency for CTA-Aliquat 336 electropun fibers of methyl orange increased with the increasing of Aliquat 336 content up to 10 wt.%. Highest methyl orange removal percentage achieved was 99.86% with concentration of 10 wt.% of Aliquat 336 within 24 hours. Under an optimized condition (10 wt.% Aliquat 336, pH 2 of methyl orange, and 10 ppm of methyl orange), 99.93% of methyl orange was successfully removed by CTA-Aliquat 336 electrospun fibers after 24 hours. The characterization study of membranes using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) found the presence of positively charged ammonium groups of Aliquat 336 and some covalent bondings such as C-0 and C=0 which indicated the presence of base polymer

    Diversity of viverridae species in state land Merapoh, Pahang

    This study on the diversity of Viverridae species conducted in State Land Forest (SLF) Merapoh Pahang. The main objective of this study was to identify and determine the diversity of Viverridae species in State Land Forest Merapoh. A total of 13 camera traps have been used to capture the images of Viverridae species. A total of photos that get is 2968 which is 129 (Human), 365(Blank), 26 (Unknown), 39 (civet) and 2409 (other wildlife). 14 independent photos represent for 4 species of Viverridae that have been detected in State Land Merapoh which is Banded Linsang (Prionodon linsang), Common Palm Civet (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus), Large Indian Civet (Viverra zibetha) and Otter Civet (Cynogale bennettii). The statistical analysis that has been used in this study is Simpson's Diversity to analyse the diversity of Viverridae species in State Land Forest in Merapoh, Pahang. The result of Simpson's Diversity is 0.50. This result show that the diversity of Viverridae in that place getting lesser. The result also show one of the species are classify as Endangered (EN) species in IUCN Red List which is Otter Civet. This species have been decline because of the habitat loss. This study can provide the new record of the Vivveridae species in Merapoh

    Plants diversity in rubber plantations at Segamat, Johor

    Due to production activities, species richness in rubber plantations varies considerably. This research was conducted to identify diversity and richness of common plants in rubber plantations at Segamat, Johor. To answer the question of how many species could potentially survive in rubber plantation, quadrat random method with 5m x 5m plotting site was established in three different aged of rubber plantations at Segamat area which are Kg. Sedeng, Kg. Logah and Kg. Jawa. Each of the locations consisted of 10 quadrats sampling which overall were 30 quadrats. The results showed there are a total of 41 species belonging to 36 genera and 24 families in the 30 plots of the three plantations. The most dominant families were Rubiaceae, Euphorbiaceae and Asteraceae. The plants diversity were documented in rubber plantations at different location to record the number of species, the species evenness, similarity index, species richness, abundance parameter and important value index (IVi). As for all three locations, the plants species were moderately diverse as the value of Shannon Diversity Index (H') moving closer to Hmax but all the plotted area within three location showed higher evenness in species distribution. Based the result from density and frequency of abundance parameter, Asystasia gangetica species was the common species in all plantations. For the IVi, there was only one species with absolute dominance (higher than 10%) which was Asystasia gangetica with value 13.62% for overall location at Segamat, Johor. In conclusion, the most common species in rubber plantations at Segamat, Johor was Asystasia gangetica, Bridelict tomentosa, Ageratum conozoides, Calyota mitis and Melastoma malabathricwn. Many plant species grow back in rubber plantations that are minimally managed or called naturally managed. Such a management approach could be useful in maintaining species diversity in rubber plantations
