A Comparative Study on the Cultivation of Cultural Awareness in Chinese and Foreign Primary School English Textbooks
The primary school stage marks the foundational phase of English language learning, during which the importance of immersive cultural education for students is self-evident. The cultivation of cultural awareness at this stage has a profound impact on learners’ future effectiveness in English learning and communication. This study is grounded in theories of intercultural communication and textbook evaluation, conducting a comparative analysis of three sets of domestic and three sets of international primary school English textbooks. It examines their similarities and differences in the selection and presentation of cultural content, explores the existing issues and shortcomings in Chinese primary English textbooks regarding the cultivation of students’ cultural awareness, and proposes recommendations for textbook development. The aim is to foster Chinese cultural consciousness and strengthen cultural confidence among students from an early age

Instructional Practices and Problem- solving Skills Competence in Calculus among BSED Mathematics Students: A Mixed- methods Study
This study aimed to examine the relationship between instructional practices and problem-solving competence in calculus among the BSED Mathematics students in college. It aimed to explore how the various instructional techniques exert an effect on the ability of the students to solve calculus problems in an effective manner. Using a convergent parallel mixed-methods design, it combined the quantitative data from the survey answers by 284 students with the qualitative revelations acquired through interviews and focus group discussions with a purposive sample. The results showed a clear linkage between successful instruction and improved problem-solving, which was measured in terms of dimensions of creative thinking, analysis, decision-making, emotional intelligence, research, and collaboration. Cognitive, intrapersonal, and interpersonal instructional strategies were the main instructional strategies that were identified. Qualitative findings also endorsed the difficulties encountered by students, including abstraction, metacognitive processes, and instruction limitations. The alignment of both data sets highlighted the significance of structured learning, scaffolding methods, and group work in the acquisition of calculus competence. The research concludes that successful instructional strategies play a significant role in students' problem-solving skills in calculus, with the suggestion that teachers incorporate novel and student-oriented teaching methods. Additional research is called for to investigate additional instructional interventions that facilitate the acquisition of these key skill
From Reflection to Action: A Mixed- method Investigation on the Reflective Practices of Elementary Teachers
The study aimed to investigate the reflective teaching practices of elementary educators in the Kapalong West District, focusing on their experiences and the factors influencing their reflection. Additionally, it sought to determine the level of reflective teaching practices and how these impact their instructional strategies and professional growth. This study employed a mixed-method design utilizing a convergent parallel approach. The participants consisted of elementary teachers from various schools in the district. A total of 136 teachers were selected through convenience sampling for the quantitative phase, while seven participated in focus group discussions and another seven were purposively chosen for in-depth interviews. The quantitative results revealed that the level of reflective teaching practices among educators was very high. Meanwhile, the qualitative findings revealed several themes such as challenges in reflection due to overwhelming workloads and time constraints, student performance as a catalyst for teacher reflection, and the blending of structured and flexible reflection in teaching. Findings from the quantitative and qualitative analyses converged, reinforcing the significance of reflection in improving teaching effectiveness. Recommendations for strengthening reflective practices are included for further guidance
Probing the Intricacies of Language Maintenance of Indigenous Students in Higher Education: A Multiple Case Study
This study probes the experiences of indigenous students in their language maintenance while communicating with other people within a local college in Kapalong, focusing on the challenges they encountered, how they handled every challenge, and the insights they can share from the challenges they have experienced. Utilizing a qualitative multiple case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with six indigenous college students studying in a local college. The findings reveal that these indigenous students struggle by experiencing pessimistic feelings during class discussions, dealing with negativity from people, and considering socializing with multicultural people as a struggle. Despite these adversities, they remained committed to their mother tongue while learning other languages through communicating with different kinds of people, giving high regard to the community's established norms, and using the language in meaningful ways. The study highlights the necessity for educational institutions to provide more support most especially financial assistance, seminars, and multicultural organizations wherein each student who is a member of a particular tribal community should be given equal rights within the institution so they can continue their studies in upholding their language while fostering harmonious relationships with other people inside the institution. These insights benefit not just the indigenous college students but society in general since they will build a deeper appreciation and respect towards every person, regardless of their language and cultural background
School Heads’ Instructional Supervision and Teaching Competence of Elementary Teachers in Kapalong East District: A Convergent Parallel Study
This study explored the relationship between instructional supervision and teaching competence among educators in selected schools in the Kapalong East District using a mixed-method convergent design. The quantitative phase involved 147 teachers through random sampling, while seven participants were purposively selected for the qualitative phase. The study examined the levels of instructional supervision by school heads, the teaching competence of elementary teachers, their lived experiences, and coping mechanisms related to supervision. School heads demonstrated a high level of supervision, and teachers exhibited high competence, especially where supervision was consistent and targeted. Results revealed a significant positive correlation between instructional supervision and teaching competence, r (145) = .688, p < .001. Qualitative findings yielded five key themes: enhancing supervision practices, advancing teaching effectiveness, addressing supervision challenges, fostering a culture of continuous growth, and supervision as a catalyst for effective, student-centered learning. On the integration of qualitative and quantitative data results were merging-converging. Lastly, the insights from this study hold great value for the field of education, especially for school heads and those involved in teacher training and development. By understanding how instructional supervision influences the teaching competence of elementary teachers, educational leaders can create more responsive programs and policies. These efforts can help better support teachers in their day-to-day classroom challenges and ultimately improve the quality of learning for students in the Kapalong East District
Analysis of soil fertilization practices by market gardeners and their perception of the use of compost based on mango residues in the commune of Korhogo, northern Ivory Coast
Market gardening is a key source of income and food security for households in Korhogo. With urban expansion, pressure on soils has increased, leading to declining fertility and threatening production sustainability. This study aimed to assess current fertilization practices and explore the potential of mango residue compost as a local alternative. A survey of 72 producers across six urban and peri-urban sites—mostly women—focused on crops, fertilizer types, application methods, and constraints. Results show that 93% use chemical fertilizers, mainly NPK (88%), while only 28% use organic inputs and less than 10% use compost. Microdose application is common, helping reduce leaching. Major constraints include poor soils, irregular rainfall, and pests. Despite limited adoption, producers expressed strong interest in mango compost due to its local availability. Barriers include lack of information, technical skills, and equipment. These findings highlight the need for simple, adapted solutions. Developing a local composting system based on mango residues could improve soil health and reduce reliance on chemical inputs
